  • I experienced a massive traffic congestion and flooding on Tuesday, 24th June. This is Chisco Bus Stop Lekki located on the Lekki -Epe Expressway Lagos that got flooded due to heavy downpour and this led to a huge traffic congestion, many residents were seen walking home from work as there were no available commercial buses and even the ride-hailing.
This video is not to promote negativity or anything of such, this is just to update you all on the current situation in Lekki Lagos, Nigeria. Please let me know what you think about this in the comment section.

Lekki has been a peninsula for millennia, with natural bodies of water. With urban sprawl and poor drainage/flood mitigation strategies on the part of the government. We shouldn’t be surprised. Nature is only taking it’s course since man has no regards or ability to manage his environment.
This is a joined up role for Ministry of Works, Environment as well as, the Ministry of Urban and Regional Planning. Heavy Civil Engineering in designing city wide management of storm drainage. An expensive venture but necessary. Sand filling and selling land for building houses makes the problem worse as Flash and Storm flooding Lekki is a flood plane. There is a reason why Nature made Lekki a peninsula.
Lekki will soon become a Slum just like Ajenunle, and other parts of Lagos.

    Bro,
Natural disaster can happen anywhere but in Nigeria which is essentially a prisoner of nations, people mock disaster victims.
Where is that crowd that routinely mock "erosion ravaged land" or dot in a circle then turn around to demand grazing rights in the dot? Where are they now?

Dubia, New York, Japan and more experienced flood but na go think as if Lagos na the only place wey dey experience flood. Lagos never experienced tsunami, earthquake or any deadly disaster but you are here prognosticating that lagos would soon sink. Get sense, my brother.

Look at that one of Dubai, the most developed cities in the world; but yet it got overwhelmed by floodings that it lasted for some days.make we no dey point fingers jare. If them wan do drainage for lag many businesses would be seriously affected, because they would need to build a suwer that would be able to sink water.

The main issues here is the nonchalant attitudes of the people dumping refuse in the canals and drainage. Another issue is overbuilding of estates on top of drainages. When corruption have ridicule the whole government system in the country. No proper surveyors. Lagos is below sea level and most people living in the islands will soon be wash off by water. There’s no proper drainage and the area is overpriced with bad infrastructure. I will rather invest such money to buy properties in the US or Uk instead of a place that’s not well maintained. Nigeria can only build but lacks maintenance.
