Originally there were 9 sins but Pope Gregory reduced it to 7 so here is the details of what I know about them. There will be no spoilers here as I am anime only I will just talk about pope Gregory and the other 2 sins so this is real history.
Essentially before pope Gregory removed 2 of the sins there use to be 9 sins Vainglory and Melancholy being the other 2 remaining.
Vainglory means excessive satisfaction and glory of ones actions and behaviour or achievements according to the dictionary it is also sometimes referred to as Vanity which is what the anime did. Vainglory is similar to pride but before Pope Gregory removed it Vainglory was considered different from pride as back then Vainglory was used to specifically refer to satisfaction in ones minor or unimportant and vain actions where as pride was used to refer to those who looked down upon others and believe their lives to be of more importance then that of others (once again this was back then not now)
The other sin Melancholy was used to refer to someone who felt excessive sadness and grief to the point of being unmotivated to do anything productive.
In the era of pope Gregory many regions had already begun using Vainglory and pride interchangeable as such Pope Gregory merged Vainglory with pride and merged Melancholy with sloth. The 9 sins had originally came from bible verses where they were repeatedly referred to as sins however by Pope Gregorys era since Vainglory and Melancholy were used interchangeably with Pride and Sloth he decided to merge them.
It is possible that the creator or Re zero researched this and added witches in with the authorities of Vainglory and Melancholy.

@藍染 惣右介Aizen Sousuke Not really it is suppose to be Vainglory in the light novels official translation but in some translations it is Vanity since there are multiple official translation companies and translators, there are often multiple translations as such they are used interchangeably and according to google dictionary Vainglory is a synonym for Vanity so it should be fine.

To clarify: Satella was sealed away 400 years ago. Emilia's flashback was 100 years ago. So Pandora was last seen kicking it waaaay after Satella was AFK.
pandoras last appearance was also when theresia died which wasn’t long before subaru arrived, and she also does something in the light novel so we know she’s around
I'm pretty sure Pandora is the one who gave all the authorities to the other witches because if we remember correctly they didn't start out as witches

@@Targuil pandora obviously has some limits reguarding her "will of voice" which ill call it. Else if she could rewrite histroy, or just rewrite reality that easy we wouldnt have even seen her and this wouldnt have even been an anime she would always win. Probably there are some conditions which need to be met. One which I can deduce is she needs to physically speak whats she needs to change, like making corn disappear she had to say it, ealier I assume she said something to put corn infront of her at 12:49 (saw her mouth move a little). Reguarding corn he isnt that powerful if you think about it. From what I saw in this episode, he HAS to consider others to be violating his 'HUMAN RIGHTS' to be able to block their attacks and he is often caught ofguard.
Further analysis, one condition coud be that others have to hear what she has said for her to rewrite "their" history.

None of the Elfs died during the OVA. Think about it, if the black serpants venom or Melekuera’s flames were enough to thaw the statues, why would Emilia have needed to enter the royal selection to try to save them? I’m sure Puck could’ve found someone powerful enough to do that otherwise, or maybe the ice would’ve melted on it’s own while Emilia was stuck in the ice.
So no, nothing in the OVA was strong enough to destroy the statues.
There’s different types of magic level. For example I’ll use Fula which is ice magic.

I believe the betty and meyer thung was over 400 years prior to current events, and that roswaal was just an ancestor based on what Ram said? And the emilia storyline is about 100yrs prior to current events. Ryuzu meyer was the original that the others clones came from...shes the one in the crystal.
Emilia’s trial takes place after the era of witches. One way to prove this without spoilers (and since they cut out the time when Emilia told us her real age) would be the existence of Regulus Corneas, the sin archbishop of greed.
As you’ve probably figured out by Pandora granting Petelguese the title of sloth, the most important condition for becoming a sin archbishop is to be the holder of a witch factor.
Obviously Regulus would hold the greed witch factor since that’s his position.
Now, Subaru only absorbed the sloth witch factor due to the previous holders death.
Assuming Regulus got his witch factor in the same way, that would imply Echidna had already died by the time Regulus came around (and given the fact that Regulus is still around on the modern day, Echidna definatly held the witch factor before him).
It is possible that there is a way to split and share your witch factor with another, and that Echidna shared hers with with Regu, but we have to look at their personalities to see if that could happen.
Echidna values the search for knowledge above all else (an urge as strong as Daphne’s hunger I might add), and thus is the enemy to anything which could hamper her ability to search for knowledge.
Regulus thinks he’s perfect, and thus has no need to change, no need to thirst for knowledge, instantly this makes it higly dubious that Echidna would ever consider helping him out by giving him a part of her witch factor.
But when we consider the damage to the world that the witch cult has inflicted (further destroying possible knowledge), and the fact that Pandora just tried to unlock a seal taht would end the world (destroying any chance to for her to gather any knowledge), i find it near impossible that Echidna would ever do something that would help the witch cult, especially something as obviously helpful as giving Regulus a witch factor, making him one of Pandora’s strongest tools.
Oh, and as we saw during the tea party, Echidna isn’t very fond of Satella, so why would she help a cult that worships her?
So yeah, from various clues, we can be pretty much certain that the time period after Echidna’s death, and thus after the scene with Beako.
If you remember the Greek Myth; Pandora released all the sins into the world, and the only thing left in her "box" was "hope".
I believe it was a punishment for her "Vanity" that she got the box in the first place. I am not sure so double check that.

Yeah as someone has explained in detail already. There are more than just the main 7 sins. Most literature doesn't go beyond the main 7, to keep it high level.
Tappei on the other hand goes further with a lot of that stuff. "Pandora" is another thing. Stars is also a big thing in Re:Zero.
Tappei goes really far with the stars stuff, especially in Arc 6. It's super awesome, makes me wanna start studying the stars.

I’m pretty sure an archbishop is just this generations name for witch as the thing that makes you a witch or arch Bishop is having a “Sin” Factor. Also some arch Bishops (regulus) is stronger then the witch version(Ecidna). And before people say spoiler this is something the author said in an interview not in any of the source material
I don't think it mean anything really, we saw that this is a title given by Pandora once one of the witch cultist take a witch factor, but im sure we probably have an explanation on them sometimes, and if regulus is stronger it is probably because he is way more greedy than Echidna, is behavior itself is totally way more in line than echidna and her thirst of knowledge

@@darkfire38th17 Well yes but it all narrows down to their compatibility with the Witch Factor they possess. The more you let yourself be influence by the sin the more efficient you have it. But in the case of Regulus it is just a broken power in the way that he cover its weakness
Now that I think about it, there are so many characters in rezero that can't die.
It's the default power of most major villains until now.

Well the qestion how far Pandora could influence Satella. We seen that Typon could shatter Mirnerva... Given that pandora still asked for the key its porbably that there is a limit on her power either in what she can efect or what she needs or is willing to do. WN Ecidna for example had the perfect book of wisdom with all aswers but refuses to use it since that agist her creed how to aquire knowlege...anyhow witches are suposed to be beond human understanding and they captured that trait perfectly with Pandora.
Her power can only affect certain things, although I don’t know what the requirements are for her to do shit
If I remember correctly in the WN the description of the seal is considered like something that do not follow the rules of the world, maybe that why she does'nt have influence on it and have to depend on other way to unlock it and have whatever is inside

21:05 pandora, the witch of vanity, was not amongst the 7 witches of sin (greed, pride, wrath, gluttony, lust, sloth and envy) She seems to be something else. Additionally, these events occured some 300 years after satella killed the other witches of sin.
Apparently she's of 2 other sins that aren't considered sins now being vainglory and melancholy she's vainglory, there used to be 9 sins but a pope merged them with pride and sloth as they were so similar so it's probably safe to assume there's a witch of melancholy as well

No spoilers, but if you're asking who Pandora is, you might as well ask who Zeus is, am I right? None of them seem to be from any famous mythologies, it seems. Umu, Umu. They're definitely not famous. That's just not possible. Humu, Humu. Pandora's Box is definitely not a thing in real life.

If anyone got confused of what happened during the time is that Pandora is a reality-bender where she could alter the universe at her own will. She can even manipulate events in history, even she can wish you that you do not exist in this world. Then you don't exist. In an instant flash, all the events around you have been change without even aware that it happened.
The spooky thing about Pandora is she could have had way more influence on the world than we're made aware of, simply rewriting herself out of people's memories. I think her rewriting ability is directly linked to things that affect her in some way, or that she's involved in so she can't just change history at will. Still, her powers are absolutely insane.
I think the Witch Cult only worship the Witch of Envy because Petelgeuse the Archbishop of Sloth worship the Witch of Envy not the Witch of Sloth.
That's just him though. And what you're saying about the entire cult contradicts what we saw. Regulus clearly followed Pandora and Pandora is the one who gave Geuse the title of Sloth.
@@danielantony1882 When he said that Sins Archbishop only follow their own representative Witches of Sin (Regulus worship Echidna because he's an Archbishop of Greed for example) , I disagree with that. Pandora said "so that the Witch cult's can fulfill its long-cherished desire" which means all of the Sin of Archbishops have the same goal but different approach. Fortuna also said that if they succeed to open the seal then the world will end "this time", that means the Witch Cult is trying to open that door which might be the Witch of Envy's seal because she almost destroy the world 400 years ago before she got sealed.

One thing I would say is not to try and connect the witches and the archbishops. Echidna and Regulus have never met and the same goes for all the other archbishops and witches.

Uh quick explanation I'm no expert tho, there were originally 9 sins the other 2 being vainglory sometimes referred to as vanity although the 2 words don't mean the same thing and melancholy but since they were so similar to other broader sins pope Gregory merged them with pride and sloth vainglory going with pride and melancholy with sloth which is why there's 7 sins guessing the author decided to use all 9 so there's probably a which of melancholy as well
