"the little ghost" is a german children's book classic from 1966. it received a ton of adaptations. the design of the nameless ghost is 100% faithful to the book, which is why they look like casper. general torsten torstenson is based on lennart torstensson, a military leader who was part of the swedish intervention in the thirty years war between german catholics and protestans in 1630. historical festivals like the one shown in the movie are fairly common, they commemorate wars and coronations and that kinda stuff.
Okay so, I think i have to explain a few things. This movie is based one a German childrens book from 1966 and (The original book) is a huge classic in many German childhoods like mine (so maybe don't call it a Caspar rip-off, especially since he is really not very well known in Germany) . The movie, while being a nostalgia hit for me, is admittedly not without its flaws, though the German version is better, due to various bad translated German puns (including every second character name) and some "only Germans will get it" jokes. But, keep in mind that making a feature length from a short bedtime story is hard, no matter how popular it is ( for comperison look at the many attempts on feature lenght Dr. Seuss movies). It being originally such a short story is also the raeson for the ghost not having a name, its also a bit of a theme with Ottfried Preußler, the author, to keep the main character nameless ( Das Kleine Gespenst (The Little Ghost), Die Kleine Hexe (The Little Witch), Der Kleine Wassermann (The Little [ is there an english word for a male mermaid?]) Yes, the CGI is bad, but children do not notice tihs for the most part, and some jokes are really not ok, as I now, looking back at it, know. But actually getting a movie to a story you loved hearing was so baffeling for us 2000 /2010s kids! One that was not the americanized version, like the Disney fairytale movies were ( they were also good but not the same). Thank you for being not to hard on it. You did a good job and americans having cuture shock on german things is always a fun time ! ; ) PS: the Ghost beeing so happy being white again, is probably just because he has "lived" the last centuries as a white ghost, if you were suddently green, you would be happy to be beige again, too.

God this was a terrible dub. Watching this in the original German is much better. I remember seeing it on Netflix in 2013/2014 and enjoying it when I was a kid.
