I didn't know who Frank Lucas was until I saw American Gangster.
Yet I watched Superfly a zillion times not knowing the movie was based on his life.
Not only that, to this day I still listen to the soundtrack of that movie of which I have 2 copies of the cd version. One the original version and another with alternate takes of those same songs. Back in HS days when the movie was released I bought me a tshirt with Curtis Mayfield's face and name.
Tumultous times socially speaking but man, full of great music.
Especially in Puerto Rico where I was born and raised where we had music coming in from basically all over the world. Great times indeed.

I was working in a building in Manhattan doing construction. There was a girl that worked the main desk in the building, Cynthia, everyday I looked forward to going to work just to see what she was wearing, she had so much class and beauty. I asked her out over and over and she finally said yes, then we were together all the time, I was in love with her. Eventually I asked her to marry me and she no, she said that it would be a big mistake because she was black and I was white and our children would be affected growing up and there would probably be other negative issues, she broke my heart, I loved her and I loved her family, I miss them, and to this day she is still the love of my life, I love you Cynthia

This Doc is to really expose Lucas, he wasn't the guy doing all the importing, and he didn't run Harlem, Like the Movie claimed. All this did was bring the information that was on the streets to the forefront

Seems that Frank had very little relationship at all with bumpy and that this story was lifted from Ike Sergeant smack Atkinson and that Frank stole it all and Hollywood put some shoe polish on it

You can see how they talked about Frank Lucas in a different light as to how they would speak about Nicky, if Frank was originally from NY and not a brotha from down south I don't think they would've spoke on him that way, they was clearly trying to down talk that man... Well, the film "American Gangster" doesn't actually contradict what some DEA agents said in this documentary. Frank Lucas wasn't like the other black wise guys, flashy and loud, he seemed harmless and therefore unimportant, but he worked with his "cousin" Atkinson, who had already been smuggling small batches of Heroin from Thailand to the US - but Lucas didn't want small batches of already cut Heroin, he wanted large consignments of 100% pure Heroin by dealing directly with the producers, cutting out the middle men. Frank Lucas may well have been unknown to many DEA agents because he kept a very low profile, was never seen with Mafia bosses etc. etc. Even the New Jersey drug squad didn't know his real position until very late - at least that is what the film tells us. What is true or not - I wasn't there so I haven't a clue, but if Frank Lucas made so much up, why did the authorities let him out of prison so early for his cooperation - they do not do that just for a few names he told them.

Definitely made him more suave than he was because when I first heard dude in an interview I'm like, alright Denzel may have played him a little more refined and cultured than he actually was. The Frank Lucas in the movie was an economics theorist, in real life just another nigga that got his hands on some good product and made some money.

I really enjoyed this. But what I can't understand is how stupid can you be to put all your money in one spot, knowing that someday you are going to get busted? If you got enough hidden away, you won't have to snitch. I'd buy my way into one of those countries that has no connections with the U.S.

It's easy to be smart if you're the only one. Once you bring someone else in, and so on, your chances of longevity decreases drastically. The old saying goes, once you tell someone a secret it's no longer a secret. Eventually the chain will form a weak link and it breaks. People like that overlook or ignore simple human nature which is to survive. I mean, who wants to suffer willingly. This was a classic domino affect.

What does seem fishy pertaining to Frank Lucas' relationship to Bumby is that he alleged to have worked for over 15 years for him, day in day out, learning the job. The trouble is that of these 15 years that they knew each other, Bumby was in prison for 10 !!! So, it does seem that Frank Lucas "embellished" upon some details of his Vita, but there again, who doesn't?

On that same note why don't I see any thriving Hispanic restaurants, thats owned by Hispanics. Chipotle and Qdobe is owned by White boys, the last place I know to be owned by an Hispanic, was burritoville which was actual authentic Mexican Food. Whiteboys shut them down so they can thrive. please think before you speak because I can go in all day on Latins and self hate.
