It looks as if Ukraine has dislodged the Russians from the railway line which was an important tactical stronghold. Perhaps, they can get faster now to the highway that leads from the south to Bakhmut. Would cut off another supply route.

Blast kill radius alone from those 155mm shells is 50 meters, and that's not including shrapnel that spreads significantly further than 50 meters of impact. So he easily could have gotten hit by both.

The poorly trained mobilized soldiers are transported near the front lines and have to walk to the front line trenches; the Russian military vehicles are too valuable to risk getting destroyed at the front line. When a Ukrainian breaks through happens and the Russian trenches are breached, the retreating Russian “Cannon Fodder” only has their legs to run away. The Russians have a limited amount of armored vehicles left to risk, but they can always get more “Cannon Fodder” mobilized soldiers.

i would try to use guided ammunition for the the first shot or shots, because they would be much more effective when the enemy isnt ready for them, especially when they are grouped up.
this can finish them with 1 shot ideally.
after that, they are already more spread out and lower, and thus there would be less of a benefit in using guided munitions relative to a barrage of unguided shells.

The idea that you can just move in and take over places because there might just be some conflict there doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t make any more sense than if Southern California suddenly had a bunch of Mexican separatists there that wanted to break away and join Mexico. The rest of the world wouldn’t say, well America, you just have to cede your sovereignty there and allow some of your territory to break away and join Mexico. Of course not, we would hold onto that land, because it’s our sovereign territory, and since 1991 Ukraine has had distinct borders that have been recognized by, not only the rest of the world, but Russia itself, and no amount of separatist movements, especially ones that are funded by Russia, allow them to break away and just join Russia.
