  • I have been enjoying these watercolor markers a lot lately. All you do is sketch and then soften the lines with a wet brush. If you find you have a hard time getting the ink to move try a different paper. I have good luck with the following:
    Arches cold pressed shrsl.com/357tj
    Hahnemulhe Cezanne Cold Pressed amzn.to/3yPjkoh
Fabriano Stufio hot pressed (Budget friendly!) shrsl.com/355l1
*Any watercolor paper, bristolor mixed media paper with a heavy sizing should also work so test what you have.
The markers I am using are the Winsor & Newton Promarkers, they are availiable in sets or open stock: shrsl.com/355kx
I'll post my reference photo on my Instagram and blog tomorrow.

Thank you for the way you used the markers as the tool they were designed for and not just a watercolor container like other CZcams artists! By goin directly onto the paper with the markers is the way they were intended to be used, not so much scribbling on a pallet then dipping a wet brush in it as you would tubed and caked watercolors are used. Excellent video!

I always always use my phone for reverence pics. Everyday. Even when my printer had ink I would still use my phone. There are times I wish I had a print of whatever I’m working on though. I have to sketch everything by hand and when using opaque mediums it’s hard to color match. Those are my only two complaints using my phone for reference material.
Oh! Another way I use my phone for reference pictures is by taking screen shots of movies or TV shows. Some have THE BEST cinematography and if I pause just right I can get some bee-you-tee-ful pictures. Obviously I can't sell anything from those pictures but I can practice in my sketchbook.

Such a sweet thistle. Random internet advice on photographing flowers. I attended a lecture for gardeners given by a pro nature photographer. Either take your photos in early morning or late afternoon, or (best). On an overcast day. Bright sunlight will seriously wash out color. Some of my best flower photos were taken in between rain showers on a gloomy day. Now if you are familiar enough with your paints and your subject, it might not make a difference to you as an artist.

They are good for humans as well. They are edible and delicious. They are in the same family as the artichoke. Artichokes are expensive and labor intensive to eat. These are free and easy. Collect the stems, eat raw or steamed, blanched, fried, you name it.
Cracks me up people will pay to dollar for food from a store, but won't pay the walk to their yard to get it for free.

The only green capped waterbrushes I have are ohuhu. The ones from Dollar Tree and the art store (pretty sure it was Hobby Lobby, but might have been Michael's) are clear. The ones that don't tend to drip on their own are the Ohuhu ones. The others I have to watch and dry where the bristles are first exposed from the plastic to avoid dripping on the paper.
My brain now wants to draw Eeyore on the page beside the thistle because my tired brain remembers he loved thistle. Sometimes the random leaps my mind takes with silly, useless trivia can be at least amusing. On the bright side, I now have two things to draw I didn't before the video.

    • @ChristinaTodd1970
      @ChristinaTodd1970 Před 2 lety

Do the Ohuhu waterbrushes suck pigment back into the reservoir? I only have three, a Pentel Aquwash, a Niji, and a Caran D'ache ( which I can't find.) The Niji's tip is frayed and the Pentel sucks pigment back into itself when I squeeze it.

I constantly take reference photos with my phone. I love to take close ups of one or 2 flowers in my garden over several days and from different angles so when I paint - not often enough - I can make my own scene with many flowers in different stages. Make up my own "dream" garden. This year I've gotten a lot of different fungi, I think the wet weather has helped. I want to try a series of different mushroom and lichen or moss on tree bark.
I laughed when you said you wouldn't "use" that box the pens came in - I think you meant not for the pens- I"ll bet we'll see it used in a shaker card or something else! Also that shiny clear plastic works for shrinky dinks. I trace 2-3 inch coloring book images with a sharpie and the Grand kids color them in. I know the fumes are toxic but they are really quick - about 2 min. _ in the oven then I leave the oven open with my exhaust fan running. The kids know we don't do them if it's rainy or too humid because they don't seem to exhaust as well, dry air is much better.

Use a strip of masking tape. The texture grabs the pigment but lifts clean off with a brush.

To keep your screen awake, go to settings and it should be listed under display or screen. I would google it and get steps to walk you through but it is possible. Beautiful piece!

I have a set of these and sadly I haven't used them yet. I can't remember when I got them but they are not labeled as "Promarkers", just W&N water colour markers. I need to break them out and use them.

Lovely rendition Lindsay. I have that same palette, I use it for water media and inks, I love it. I think it’s by Meeden.
PS: Huge dog fan here, would love to see a picture of your dog, perhaps you could paint him for us 🙂
