People with cats tend to prioritize cat comfort over best-practice storage. I, too, have a cat bed (well, a cardboard box with an old shirt in it) in my closet for any of my cats who want a secluded moment away from the others. My shoes then go on the bottom shelf of the bookcase by my bed, and the displaced books go on a shelf in the closet.

Cat person here 🙋♀️! Hair remains a headache, but their love makes up for it.
@@Mariana-ym6zf Extra fluffy cat hair is why the shoes are on the bookshelf. If left on the floor they tend to collect not only hair, but hidden surprises, such as a little felt toy mouse. And occasionally they choose my shoe to throw up in.
I have photos of the inside of my closet and various drawers on my phone. When I’m shopping and about to impulse buy an item I refer to the photo checking where the item will fit in my decluttered curated closet or drawers. The majority of the time (I’m not perfect) this works. Apologies if this has already been suggested.

As I got older I found having a basic "uniform" to wear made a lot of sense. Mine looks quite a lot like yours, actually. It makes life so much easier. I think when we are younger we want to experiment more and like a lot more colour. Since Covid and lockdowns I wear even less! I live out in the country and don't need much variety in my clothing. Simplicity is joyful!
I’ve done the same. My life has changed completely as I’ve gotten older. I’ve decluttered 90%. It’s funny, but the first pass was really difficult. I kept some things because they were expensive. I now find it easier to even let those things go because I haven’t worn them in six months. I think some was like a panic mentality. As it’s become apparent that I am managing comfortably with few things, it’s a lot easier to let things go. I had 14 pairs of boots. I now have 2. I had 18 handbags. I now have one. I can’t begin to explain how much less stressed I am now. I actually feel more confident because I seem to have found my style, rather than having hundreds of random items. I have staple favourites. Absolutely love your videos. Thank you.😊
@Chrissyhappy I agree that the first pass - maybe the first few times - are more difficult, but when you start to get a sense of how sweet it is to let go, it's much easier. Clothing and shoes and handbags? No problem now. Art supplies...that's a different matter! 😊 But that is my January project!

Sometimes watching someone on CZcams I will just watch, but when I've watched you in action I'm so motivated to get up and get something done. This weekend I spent 2 days sorting my patio area, after watching you do yours a while back. I've also decided I'm going to learn how to DIY myself instead of waiting on someone else. Hi Benita , I always enjoy your ideas and seeing how your apartment is coming along . My apartment is tiny so I'm always decluttering . Transitioning from solid to clear bins in my storage area has been really helpful . I wear scrubs for work and have been changing to a different , silkier material that is so much more comfortable than heavy cotton . At one point I got rid of 45 scrub tops ! I'm retiring in 2 years too so don't need to buy more . I always get inspired watching what you do . 💕🇨🇦

I decluttered my closet a few times. But I have still a lot of clothes. I wear everything and love all my clothes. I organized it better this last year and I am happy with it. Minimal in clothes is not for me, but when it is well organized I can live with it. 😊 Irma from the Netherlands

When we moved into a new home 5 yrs ago I didn't want a traditional dresser, so I opted to put the same kinds of things you did in bins on my closet shelves. So easy ! I do have a beautiful dresser my late husband bought me many years ago and that became my office. I use my laptop for virtually everything so I don't need a desk. My office dresser fits right into my bedroom with the printer, paper and small desk lamp on top., perfect :) . I'm a girly girl and have all pink velvet hangers. I live in Arizona where we wear pretty much the same clothes all year., except in the triple digit Summers. I love labeling too. I'm not a minimalist, but do most of what you said. Hello Benita. I'm in the process of creating a "granny flat" which in most thinking looks like a space for an old lady. But what I am creating is close to what you've shared on this video
and which has helped me with some fabulous ideas, so thank you very much. I'm calling my space a "studio apartment" and not a downsized granny flat which sounds so depressing to me and makes an older person sound like an after thought. My daughter says I'm living my life back to front as if I'm just starting out which I love!!!

You have very high closets - I love how everything looks and how you have it all categorized. I am doing quite a bit of spring decluttering right now, and can't believe what I have pulled out of my closet. I like clothing racks - we have a space for one upstairs and it looks very nice there. I have to say "thank you" to you and give a shout out to Organic Basics. After watching this video, I decided to click on your link and give them a try. I purchased two striped short-sleeve T's and a pair of the tencel shorts along with a short sleve tencel T. I placed the order on May 21 and It Just Arrived! This package was shipped from Denmark and I have it in my hands, here in rural Kentucky just a few days later. I mean, I placed a GAP order the same day and just got an email notification that it will arrive on the 30th! Amazon usually takes a week to deliver anything I order but Organic Basics got an international order to me in 3 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The packaging was impressive - no plastic, everything neatly folded into tiny boxes, (I was inspired!). And then, I picked up the first T I opened and couldn't believe the softness of the fabric. Everything fits great. The workmanship and quality of the fabric is something I've never seen before, (I'll never order from GAP again!). I can't thank you enough for introducing me to this company. I've watched your videos for a couple years and from time to time, would think about ordering from OB but I'm sorry now I waited so long. I do wish they had a bit broader selection of clothes - especially dresses - I'm not into wearing sweat pants/shirts, but I'll probably eventually give them a try anyway! Built-in closets are not a thing where I live now. My apartment had horrible, cheap wardrobes in it and I tossed them when I renovated. Now I'm trying to find a solution that will work in the tight spaces I have. Meanwhile, I have a shower curtain rod balanced between a cabinet and the top of a door, with five things that I wear all the time on it. It has helped me realize two things. 1 - yes, there are a few set, comfortable items that I gravitate to all the time. And 2 - my lifestyle has changed dramatically with this move, and I don't need even half of the clothes that I brought with me!

Keeping the cat bed on the closet floor is something I would do also. If company visits your apartment and Bonus does not care for them, that bed in the closet is a comfortable hiding place.

So neat and having clothes in neutrals really helps. My hobby is sewing so I have a lot of clothes. Some things I have had for 20+ years as they are well made and looked after. I do keep my colour palette within a range for easy co-ordination. Thank you for the tips. I recently moved to a new house that has a wardrobe with quite a few shelves so those IKEA boxes would work well.

Sigh. I used to be this minimal with my wardrobe, but during lockdowns I did some boredom shopping just for the excitement of receiving packages. Now I have lots of nice clothes to keep track of. It’s not as fun as I imagined.

Aaaaah, so spacious and neat. You know exactly what to get and wear. I have my favorite, just like you. And goodness, it is minus here again tonight, what happened to spring? Our kitties are priority number 1 for sure. I still own a closet full of clothing for my youngest, they will never fit in it but I am not allowed to give them away. Oh well, one day eh 🤣.
When they’re at a certain age you can give it all to them as a gift and then they’ll have to deal with it 😅

I wish the UK would adopt a Scandinavian style of building. So stylish and easy to keep clean, but also focus on the way the space can be used to accommodate different styles of living. Here, that kind of design comes at a very high price.

I used to love all my clutter but to live in it is completely another world I don’t think I could get to this point though but would love too I think it comes with age also de clutter I think when you are younger you seem to nest but when you get older when all the birds start flying the nest you mentally start preparing and making life easier for what’s ahead

There isn’t a light inside but in that little space outside and it works really well. For the video I propped a video light inside. That did attack me by falling down while filming at one point 😅

These were great tips! I've never sorted my stuff by season, as I'm in California in the U.S., and we don't have all four distinct seasons. But I think I might try, and take a look at the stuff that I really haven't worn but am keeping "just in case."

Nice video again. That is great that you have only clothes what you like, own colours, if youknow what I mean. Same with me, only grey, black, white and beige. Two Marimekko- shirts are with colours, like to wear them like "Midsommar" and some other summerdays, but not so much.
