I watched this music video as a kid on the Treasure Planet dvd bonus features, now I'm 28 and watching it with my son and crying. Life comes at you fast, but I'm still here
Learning that Johnny was an orphan by 15 and had to support himself at that point really gives new meaning to the song for me. He probably related to the Jim character and was able to write a song that goes a bit deeper than a lot of the songs that get written for animated films.
Underrated? He's the lead singer and frontman of Goo Goo Dolls lol. He's not mentioned by his name alone a lot, I'll agree with that, but I wouldn't call him underrated by a long shot :P
All these years later, I've been through so much as a teenager, still struggling and now at 29 years old, this song still resonates with me. I still consider this my theme song...... Treasure Planet is a fucking masterpiece, by the way. :D
Braxton Everheart Mmmm, if anyone held them together it was Robby, he's kept John from quitting multiple times. But either way, long live the Goo Goo Dolls!!
As a teenager, I wasn't accepted by some of my peers in school due to my autistic personality, but some accepted me although I felt so alone those years. This song I've held in my heart as far back as when I heard it in "Treasure Planet".
Crazy to think this was uploaded within 6 months of CZcams's existence. I was 5 when this came out, and yet I still remember my brother showing it to me. It's still my favorite song in the world.
I am a question to the world, Not an answer to be heard Or a moment that's held in your arms. And what do you think you'd ever say? There's not a single song from Johnny and the GooGoo Dolls that I can't relate to on a deep level. All of their songs are so personal and they all come from the heart. Its sad that this generation has lost this connection with music.
Um Gen Z kid here, i listened to this song when i was like 2 and my whole life has revolved around listening to music made from 2000-2013 and yeah. All the people in the generation seem to only listen to generic pop music or some garbage like that. I hope some day all this great music gets made again.

It's great to see the younger generations identifying with Johhny Rzeznik and the Goo. Great stuff. Help keep them alive, guys. It's a little known fact that these guys have existed since 1987 and are still together. They may only have 9 studio albums, but the quality certainly makes up for the lack of quantity.
I used to watch the movie when I was around 7-8 years old by myself a lot. Then when I became 14 I found the Goo Goo Dolls and the band resonated so hard with me, it was because of the voice. This voice I grew up with. Marvelous man
I've loved the Goo Goo Dolls for a long time but this Johhny song is simply one of the best he's ever written. And it's sadly the most obscure song he's ever written but it deserves all the praise it can get.
New Year's Eve 2020. I was walking down the street on a cloudy afternoon in New York City and I for the first time in 15 years I 'got' this song. Took a shitty year but I got it. I'm Still Here
I first heard this song when i was like 15 years old in 2004 from my mother who loved Goo Goo Dolls and this was their frontman Johnny Rzeznik's solo song he did for Disney's Treasure Planet. Its because of my mom that I love Goo Goo Dolls to this day and im 34 years old now. This was one of her favorite songs by them and its one of my favorites as well. A beautifully written song. I seen nearly 20 years ago on the Disney Channel that Disney interviewed Johnny Rzeznik personally about this song and its meaning and so on. It was a Disney Channel special that went on around the time Treasure Planet came out. I know I just contradicted myself or changed up my story it seemed but the interview that Disney did with Johnny Rzeznik didnt play the entire song. Only bits and pieces of it as if they didnt want to completely spoil it.
There is SO much that can be said about this song. It SLANDERS parts of this world's society. It teaches that if you want to FIGHT for something, FIGHT FOR IT. Verse two deals with a girl or someone that the Protagonist is Seeking out. Finally verse three, or the Bridge as it's called, deals with the Person and how they want what the People I serve and the people I preach to want. Something Better than what this world wants you to be. It FOCUSES to the person that the Protagonist admires, cares about, looks up to, or worries about that they REMAIN there for ALL people that they want to help.

I love how I listened to this song when I was young, and back then, I could only think how well it went with the movie. Now that I listened to it again, not only is it my favorite song, but a wonderful band, but I've also heard the words this time around. I feel it's the theme song to so many teenagers, such as myself. So, correction to the one lyric in the song. "I'm alone." Because no, as shown many times below, I am NOT alone. Love the song.

Even being so self conscious about that that dating would've been difficult for me. It even almost drove me to suicide. Ever since I heard this song again it kinda reminded that I as long as I don't change who I am as a person, and just keep moving forward everything will eventually fall into place. Now, I have a better paying job, and I'll hopefully be moving out of my parents house by next summer. As long as someone believes in you, and you remember who you are, thing will get better.

I'll forever struggle to get through this song without shedding a tear
I cry every time I feel you brother
My favorite quote: How can the world want me to change? There the ones that stay the same.
This brings back so many childhood memories I can't even explain it. Now that I am older and can understand what this song means, I like it even more.
I am a question to the world,
Not an answer to be heard
Or a moment that's held in your arms.
And what do you think you'd ever say?
I won't listen anyway…
You don't know me,
And I’ll never be what you want me to be.
And what do you think you'd understand?
I'm a boy, no, I'm a man..
You can't take me and throw me away.
And how can you learn what's never shown?
Yeah, you stand here on your own.
They don't know me 'cause I'm not here.
And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don't feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can the world want me to change?
They’re the ones that stay the same.
They don’t know me,
'Cause I’m not here.
And you see the things they never see
All you wanted, I could be
Now you know me, and I'm not afraid
And I wanna tell you who I am
Can you help me be a man?
They can't break me
As long as I know who I am
And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don't feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can the world want me to change?
They’re the ones that stay the same.
They can’t see me,
But I’m still here.
They can’t tell me who to be,
‘Cause I’m not what they see.
Yeah, the world is still sleepin’,
While I keep on dreamin’ for me.
And their words are just whispers
And lies that I’ll never believe.
And I want a moment to be real,
Wanna touch things I don't feel,
Wanna hold on and feel I belong.
And how can they say I never change?
They’re the ones that stay the same.
I’m the one now,
‘Cause I’m still here.
I’m the one,
‘Cause I’m still here.
I’m still here.
I’m still here.
I’m still here.
