Because it is not! No way im gonna put that album along side true classics. The production, concept, hooks and lyrics are not elite. «Wet dreamz» is cringy. Also, the whole «platinum W/out features» does not make it a classic. Jay, Ye, Em, Drake, and Kendrick could all easily go platinum without features if they actually wanted to. Features are what made a lot of classics, classic.

A thing that’s always differentiated Cole from Kendrick to me is that Cole has no help. He makes his decisions musically on his own. Little to no help. He really has no mentors. Which is why he might not hit the mark sometimes. Emphasis on “sometimes” tho. He takes chances on himself. He does his own producing and barely ever has any features. This makes everything he does that’s great so much more special, he does it all on his own. That makes me respect him in a different way than Kendrick. Kendrick has mentors and a whole team with him. Dr. Dre, Top Dawg, Jay Rock as a big bro figure. He came in with a whole team that helps him make sure he makes consistently top tier music. so I think that’s why Kendrick has appeared more “perfect” than Cole. That doesn’t take away from Kendrick’s obvious greatness tho cuz Kendrick still writes his own raps and comes up with his own concepts. Just has others to help him perfect it. Just a thought that I hope makes sense to everybody.

      MJ was a genius.
Prince was on the same court without any of the support Michael got.
I say that to say I see what you mean.
But. Cole got alot of the same cosigns an knowledge kendrick did.
We can let him be simba right now.
But kendrick deserves his crowned status as well.

Cole has humility and understands that he is not a monolith. He knows he’s so far from perfect, and because he’s human, he’s capable of evil. That’s what makes him a role model, that’s what makes him the person to look up too.

Kimmminem West so Cole giving money to his mother, the woman that birth him and raised him, is wrong because she’s white? Uhh ok I guess. And you say that he wrote a diss track to a black woman which he didn’t and stated along with his camp especially since it was more so of a constructive criticism which he offered ways to help give out her message more clearly. And he even shouted her out and told people to follow her on Twitter after the release. And when Noname created her diss track, she ended up regretting it which she stated. But hey go off what do I know.

4 your eyez only was Cole's Magnum Opus. Front to back classic that takes you through the struggles of fame, acceptance and evolution while also providing an intimate and often times private view of the struggles of being rich and famous while others you love and cherish are still shoving their nose to the grindstone of wealth and success. Lyrically challenging and often over looked, this album forces the listener to understand what the common people of the black community struggle through day to day. And I cant thank him enough.

That's legitimately the most casual, stupid, somewhat popular take of the last 5+ years. The 2010s were easily the most diverse and creative decade ever for rap. From thematic/conceptual depth to experimental hip hop and everything in between (Gibbs and the Griselda crew with gangsta rap, Thug, Travis and Future with trap music, etc.) rap has been in a GREAT place for a while now.
Earl Sweatshirt, Big K.R.I.T, Tyler the Creator, Freddie Gibbs, Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher, Vince Staples, Quelle Chris, JPEGMAFIA, Isaiah Rashad, Joey Bada$$, Slauson Malone, Saba, Danny Brown, ScHoolboy Q, Denzel Curry, Run The Jewels, Lupe Fiasco, BROCKHAMPTON, Injury Reserve, Open Mike Eagle, Lil Ugly Mane, Noname, Rapsody, Pusha T, Billy Woods, Kanye West, Mavi, MC Ride, J.I.D, Royce da 5'9, Boldy James, Conway The Machine, Black Thought. Literally every single guy I mentioned can make the argument that are MUCH better artists than Cole, and a bunch of them have inarguably a better discography.

yeah I agree The Fall Off sounds like a classic hip hop album
but the samples used in Lion King On Ice are a bit bad
it seems like Cole is going for a more ASTROWORLD and Rodeo album
KOD to me was Birds In The Trap
It was full of trap and it seems like it is going away in The Fall Off

J cole never left the “come up” phase, forever making music from that perspective. I feel like that was enticing when it was sincere, but it feels played out now and it feels like he’s still beating the same dead horse til this day. It’s worked out for him number wise, but yeah, haven’t been able to fully enjoy a project from him since FNL because of that.

    • @iansmart4158
      @iansmart4158 Před 4 lety +52

4 Your Eyez Only is the exact opposite of that type of music tho. Nothing about that album can be assumed to be of a young man's perspective.

Cole is a simplistic individual, true transparency is his who he is,he's the epitome of it. He's unparalleled, his art must touch others, his art must assist others through this diabolical planet. He won't comprise in order to appease, those who lack perspective. And I for one appreciate that completely.

You got J Cole correct. One exception, J Cole is an avid reader. He has a book club for the boys and girls of Fayetteville, NC. He was president of African American Studies at St. John's University. His book club is free. Check out the "Dreamville Foundation". He also heads a charity in Fayetteville for children that haven't got mothers or fathers. I think he said that to No Name because he is humble and didn't want to make her feel bad. They knew each other. When he searched her timeline, he found that she was calling Black men that did not protect Black transgender women as KKKs. She has/had a great deal of hostility for Black men. Cole didn't respond for himself, but for the Black men who were not able to respond for themselves. He is not a leader, he is a healer.

No it's because he failed miserably at communicating a fairly straightforward message, dropping a song at the worst possible time.
Snow on tha bluff is like The Blacker the Berry in the sense that he recognises the injustice around him and is aware he could be doing much more, but his silence or passiveness causes him to feel guilt. It was just executed terribly and dropped at a awful time
