  • I'm replacing the aftermarket electric fuel pump a previous owner installed on my 1978 Ford F150 with a stock mechanical pump- should be simpler, more reliable, and safer than the current setup. Also replacing all the rubber fuel lines & dangerous glass fuel filter.
Steps should be valid for any carbureted big block Ford 460 (385, Lima, 7.5L, etc.)

This video was especially helpful. I was worried I had the wrong pump after 20 minutes of reaching up and grabbing the fan to turn the engine and angling the pump arm in different ways because it wouldn't sit flush no matter what I tried, the only way to get it flush is using the bolts to run it the rest of the way down. The tip about the grease on the gasket and arm are great as well. The fuel pump I removed from the engine is actually for a 390, it has a different shape and length. I guess it's nice to know some 390FE parts will work in a 460.

Good video, thank you. Gave me the information I needed before I dug into my 78 Lincoln.

Do all 460's use the same pump? If so please tell me what pump you got😊

To my knowledge yes, other than the EFI motors. I've got a link in my description, its a Carter M60036

I’ve heard that installing a filter on the suction side of a mechanical pump is a bad idea.

@4:27, when you say you should adjust the eccentric to a position that makes it easier to insert the pumps rocker arm, do I have to re-adjust the eccentric back to its original position ? or as long as the piece fits in great I can just leave it?

You can leave it, basically you're just turning the engine to get it in a better position to install, when the engine is running that eccentric is what drives the pump so it doesn't matter where it starts.

    Will this work with a 1980 Ford f 150?

How long are the bolts for the fuel pump? 1"?

That's correct. 3/8-16x1" to be exact.
