Yep, only bourbon. Was there a few years ago. When they were owned by Seagrams they made lower end whiskey but even then I think it was only whiskey, mostly destined for export, a lot to Japan. Four Roses was not very good back in the 80’s and 90’s. Always have it in house now.

I'm disappointed there was no mention of the non-chill filtered label on the neck of the bottle. That's where the heavy mouth feel is coming from Rex was talking about. Also, this is probably why a little bit of water causes a big reaction and change in flavor.

I toured the distillery several years back and bought a small batch bottle. It tasted the best of all the ones we tasted. I know nothing about bourbon. Always drank Jack or Maker's Mark but liked the Four Roses. Years ago, Knob Creek borrowed me for several hours as a one man focus group and paid me $200. It was fun. Jeez, that is quite a selection of spirits in the background.

Candied cherry front note with vanilla and dark brown sugar, then heavy tannins that leaves your pallet feeling like it’s coated with velvet. I like it!!! The proof doesn’t affect its sip ability the least way and it really transitions from heavy tannins back to a sweet bourbon!

Then I did add a very tiny amount of water and the flavor came out, which amazed me, because I had added so little water. However, I did not find the flavor to be anything exceptional. Crap, I now let it sit for a while and the flavor is coming out more. I will let you all know later what I think. BTW I also tried Woodford Double Oak before that and I think it was pretty incredible. Someone please explain to me what happens to the bourbon when you add water. And, does the mash bill of the bourbon determine whether you should add water or not? Have to admit, I have never done the adding a little water to bourbon to effect flavor.

194 comments before mine & not a single person mentioned the Metal Gear Solid reference. Sad.

I just got to check out Seven Grand in Austin over the weekend. I was impressed but I found a place in waco that is much more low key that i like much better.

Can you guys please try either the Stauning rye whisky, or the Stauning heather whisky. the whiskys are from Denmark, which is know for having really good rye. The Stauning distillery is also making whisky like they did in scotland in the old days. they have invented a machine specifically so they can use floor malting for their malt, they also still use open flames to heat up the pot stills, as well as keep using small, potstill instead of big mass producing potstills. The heather whisky is especially interesting as they use heather to smoke the malt, and give the whisky a special kind of smoky flavour.
