  • Hypothymis azurea/Black-naped Monarch-The blue little elf in the fore st.
The Black-naped Monarch likes to move around in the secluded forest. Although it blends into the forest, its striking blue coloration and clear calls make it difficult to completely hide, often leading us to search for its presence among the trees.
The male bird is dressed in a dazzling cobalt blue plumage. Against the bright blue, its eyes appear even more sparkling, It has a black circular patch on the crown of its head, and it has a black band across its throat and neck. There are fine black hairs around its mouth.
The female bird has a blue head and a brown-gray body, and the black crown patch on its head is less distinct, and it lacks the black band on the throat.
They often fly swiftly through the forest to catch insects.
The breeding season is from March to August each year. The Black-naped Monarch builds its nest using materials such as bamboo leaves, tree bark, fine twigs, moss, and spider silk, creating a funnel-shaped nest.
The female lays three eggs at a time, and parent birds take turns incubating eggs and caring for the fledglings.During the fledgling-rearing period, parent birds remain vigilant at all times. They also emit alarm calls to protect the fledglings.
