    • @davidcline7015
      @davidcline7015 Před 4 lety +1

      Probably pretty accurate I would think. It's thought that the ter'angreal for the testing, esp the Accepted testing are somewhat tied to similar "parallel" worlds. To me, it's even kinda implied that it's like stepping into that parallel version of yourself at a time of huge decision, and that's how the ter'angreal is able to pick something that's so important and gut wrenching to the Novice being tested that she might choose it over The White Tower and the path to being Aes Sedai. I might be totally wrong, but it's how I've always interpreted the vague explanations that are given to the Novices/Accepted, and some I think when Moiraine is reflecting on how similar the glass columns are to The White Towers testing ter'angreal. The glass columns are your ancestors memories (at least the first time), the last time, it's possible futures of descendents. Or, maybe "parallel" futures, or possibly the way it happened during different turnings of the wheel so far in the past that its the presents future. Or who knows I could just be grasping at what I want it to be and rambling about it to you. Lol.

    • @andrewdiaz3529
      @andrewdiaz3529 Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah in a way. Though the Aiel didn't seem to start out that way and the wise one's were mostly focused on minimizing damage and preventing outright monster wars instead of total Aiel unity. Malkier and it's predecessors all fell due to conspiracy and the machinations of both Darkfriends and the shadow as well as those of simple power hungry people as well as being so close to the blight and difficult to lead as one entity. Andor also has elements of that as well, starting to have Succession wars often and becoming bogged down by bloated Nobility.

    Just one small thing. When Myrelle is hiding Lan after taking his bond without permission, Siuan is able to figure this out. To explain how she says: “if you want to keep something hidden, don’t try to buy coin peppers this far south". I have always assumed that mean't the coin or ice peppers mentioned in the books were grown in Malkier.

    Just finished the last book yesterday. One thing I haven't seen mentioned in the "what comes next" content is that with the blight gone, will the borderlands expand their holdings or new nations be created Northward? There is extensive territory up there available now and the harshness of the environment not so extreme. Possibly even reversed.

    Interesting that the land along the Blight was located within two Nations during the Compact of the Ten Nations. Whereas afterwards, 4 nations arose. Later on (after the fall of Artur Hawkwing, 5 nations arose. Not sure why i find this interesting, but I do. There were a few other notable Malkerians, including the Darkfriend that Lan killed in NS.
    For the government section, what was the deal with the casting of the Rods. IIRC, it was said that if one rod was cast differently, than Lan's father would not have been king. Does that mean Malkier is not a hereditary monarchy per se? Rather. is it more like Andor when the head woman of each of the 18 Great Houses has to select monarch. By tradition, if a daughter-heir is alive, then they will all cast their votes for the daughter-heir. But if she is not alive, you can have a Succession.

    • @danalou_who7765
      @danalou_who7765 Před 4 lety +3

      I, too, wondered about this Rod casting which determined that one brother and not the other ascended to the throne. I appreciate the wide variety of governing systems RJ gives us in the series, and details like this are part of what make this world feel so rich and textured.

    • @andrewdiaz3529
      @andrewdiaz3529 Před 4 lety +1

      The 2 solid nations turning to 4 then being consolidated then falling apart into even more nations is very cool. Shows that the Borderlands, however strong they all arw, are in decay. Really makes the turn to the Dark of a certain borderlander more tragic just like the discussion about how more and more land is falling into chaos and then desolation.

    Randland has some of the weirdest population dispersals that I've ever seen in a fantasy map. I mean, sure I get it that as in many High Fantasy there is a retreat of Man from the overarching Evil, but it really doesn't make sense in the described history of the previous thousand years of Randland. There are vast tracts of land (and not the fun kind for Monty Python fans) that are completely uninhabited or even just sparely so where there should be thriving nations. Everything exists in the areas north of Andor and south of Cairihien so support a nation: easy access to lines of communication, natural resources for trade and arable farmland in plenty. Considering the bulging populations of some of the major cities, it makes no sense at all for these areas to be uncolonized at the very least by the major nations, or minor nations in their own right. Ah, well; the story is as it is.

    • @andrewdiaz3529
      @andrewdiaz3529 Před 4 lety

      Partly because the shadows forces has spent centuries spreading chaos in those areas in particular because they are so productive. It's to the point that even without the shadow, those regions are ruled by small local Lord's and petty tyrants who have created a system of alliances and feuds so complicated that one would basically hace to be as bad as a Darkfriend to unite the areas and even then the shadow would get involved and even the white tower as part of their whole MO.
