This is my response to Oshay, I used to be of the same school of thought as him on blindly emulating the Western world and commercializing everything as the antidote to our economic challenges
Over the years I've questioned why precolonial forefathers lived the way rhe lived, why they never commercialized land?, why they never saw the other person as an opportunity to make money? Why they never created systems or products that polluted the environment? Why they chose to br one with nature? and why their communal way of life overrode the individualistic life style being pushed to us by the west?
What I know for a fact is that the more we commercialize Africa to be like the West, the deeper we sink into the abyss hole
We have to be very careful and very intentional on how we embrace and tackle this diabolical demon know as Capitalism for there lies our extinction as a black people.
Our(black people) not taking advantage of the economic opportunities virtually everywhere we live in this universe could be a sign of our ancestors resisting this demonic system for they know/knew it's negative impact on humanity.
The more I grow older and witness all damages being done to our society/environment in the name of 'development' and 'opening the economy' the more I realize that our precolonial forefathers weren't fools as the rest of the world would like us to believe.

This is a great topic, and being a business owner in Nigeria as an ex-pat. It is the ex-pat's responsibility to train the locals in the necessary skills and break the cycle of Africans not having quality customer service skills or the professionalism needed to have a competent business on the continent. Every one of my staff must adhere to the job description they are willing to apply for. and be paid for their worth, however, it's my responsibility to make sure they are well-trained. What I have noticed here in Nigeria is that the Nigerians don't train their staff and complain about how their performance is sub-standard. I will be honest with my post. 50 years from now, we will be having this same conversation, "African people need to come together", "African governments need to respect their people", "African businesses need to hire their own", "foreign businesses need to hire locals." I am not being cynical but painting a true reality. Foreign investors are doing exactly what their doing because African governments receive incentives to allow these foreign investors into their countries. When money is paid, and countries are getting investors opening businesses, government leaders turn a blind eye. There is no way in hell an African business could open in Lebanon and say only Africans can apply for a job. Not in Lebanon, or in China, or in India....anywhere. So, why is tis being allowed in Africa? Easy, lack of national pride and self-respect. Look at how the Chinese are physical beating African workers and getting away with it. I believe it was in Zambia where the Mayor of Lusaka went into a Chinese business and reprimanded the Chinese owners about mistreating Zambians. The Zambian government made that Mayor go back to the Chinese business owner and apologize. That Mayor had to literally swallow his pride and go back to the Chinese owners, who were abusing Zambian workers and apologize for reprimanding them. The Zambian government placed the abusive Chinese above their own people. How can a people be united and have love of self, i their government don't even protect them?? We DO NOT have an "African first" mentality or agenda on the continent. There may be some minor example, but not much. Three weeks ago I visited the embassy of an African country (not going to say which one). On that same trip, I visited my own embassy (Guyana). I met the Ambassador of that African country here in Atlanta a month earlier at their independence celebration and struck up a brief conversation. After the event, I followed up with a proposal to visit them in D.C. to extend on our brief conversation on training for their entrepreneurs and small business sector. I prepared well and researched well for this meeting, and composed a thorough PowerPoint presentation on my key message. It was centered on the African Continental Free Trade Area and the Sustainable Development Goals, so I wanted them to know that I was linking my training for small businesses to capitalize on these programs. I also was clear about my own experience as an immigrant from a developing country with similar challenges. The meeting was great, but prior to beginning, I was told the Ambassador could only give me 20 minutes. My presentation was cut down to a 20-minute discussion on the key points I took time to elaborate on the slides, so I made it a high-level discussion. I also leveraged some of the policies their government created concerning their desire to invest in small business training. I thanked them warmly and departed after the discussion, and a brief post meeting chat. Upon my return to the U.S., I sent a follow-up email and a follow-up letter thanking them for the meeting and discussing next steps. It has been a month and I have yet to receive a reply email from the embassy. When asked by friends how I felt about the meeting, I replied that I felt just "ok" about it, but I also know I had no money to offer, I was not Chinese, Middle Eastern, or a White Westerner/European. I am a black man from Guyana, that is all they probably saw. This was not the first government representative I approached from an African country, or Caribbean, so I am used to very little happening afterward. This and others are prime examples as to why Africans are challenged with advancement. If African governments refuse to tap the Diaspora to help back home, or tap local talent, how are we supposed to advance as a people? I bet if a European investor went to the embassy and presented money, they would sure jump on it. Many Africans and Caribbeans in their respective Diaspora communities are challenged with taking knowledge back to Africa or the Caribbean. We are looked upon as foreigners and with envy. Gabs, Oshay, Brian, and Jonita was spot on in their conversation. The bottom line is that African businesses and governments do not see value in their own people, and this is not a problem with can suddenly fix. Like I said in my opening statement, I see this continuing at least for another 50 years and more. We rather deprive our own than help our own. You mean to tell me there is not one Ghanaian who can manage that Showroom? Not one? B.S. You can't ask African people to return home, if you are allowing non-African foreigners to abuse your people. This is why the entire world mistreats Africans. It is commonly known that you can do that, and we will participate in our own abuse, or as long as we are getting some benefit to them being there, the abuse and racism shall continue. Gabs said it best, the benevolent reward, or something like that. Sorry for the long post.

They give them business loans over blacks Oshay, but I completely understand you and am with you. It's a Asian girl who gives a whole breakdown of how this all works. When they come to the U.S. they get stipends and more. That's why you are in Africa because of the privileges, it's easier if you already have a plan. I'm investing heavy I have no debt outside of my mortgage. I'm a avid gardener and have multiple folks that want to buy from me. Once I get the capital I'm opening grocery store in underserved neighborhoods. People look at Walmart and other stores closing down near black communities as something bad when it's actually a blessing. This is a opportunity to take back your neighborhoods and let the money circulate within the community and build it up. Stop running away from your neighborhoods build them up and get rid of folks that don't want progress. Florida is a prime example of how they try to oppress folks. They removed all African American history and replaced it with aapi history which is a old trick to pit blacks against Asians which distracts against the bigger picture.
