It's the only figure out of my ~150 that I bought twice.
Which is insane because I have a huge bias towards dark side collecting. Once I held it, though, I was like wtf. It's perfect.
What gets me and what I wish more reviewers considered is that human proportions. Many/most figures have something off like too long legs or torso.
That 1st release Cap. Rex and Deluxe Emperor are my proud gems/grail of my Black series collection! Love and lucky to have those two.
They are definitely gems. My grail would be the Shadow Squadron set...can't believe I finally found that one! -Justin
I remember thinking the orange line sandtrooper would be the only six inch star wars figure I ever get. At that time, I thought the black series would be a short lived line. I believe that helmet was sculpted by gentle giant which would explain why it's sooooo good!

The weathering is so great on that sand trooper that all of my clones just don’t feel right. I remember it beIng my super hard to find that sand trooper. I got the blue line release.

Great episode guys. I have always agreed that the Sandtrooper is and will always be the best figure in the line. I just recently got the Imperial Shadow Squadron 2-pack and the Sandtrooper looks awesome in black. Thanks. Keep up the good work.

Things are proceeding exactly as I have foreseen... But yeah, that sandtrooper is awesome, I'm thinking about buying one for myself since I still don't have him, and that weathering looks pretty amazing. My personal favorites off the top of my head would be ROTJ Boba, Dark Trooper, Count Dooku, CW Anakin, and Commander Bly. Count Dooku is one I just got recently, but he's so good that he's definitely in my favorites, the soft guns on him are some of the best in the line. Keep up the great work, guys! Hoping that this year brings us some more Top 10 contenders like 2022 did!

Hey Vader Joe. Yes the Sandtrooper is on the older Stormtrooper body, as well as a differentl helmet. That along with the pauldron and backpack make it quite bigger than the 2020 Stormtrooper. -Justin

Great list guys. I own every figure on this list except for Rex and the Sandtrooper, so I have a question: I’ve been eyeing the Dewback set, is this the same Sandtrooper that comes in that set (besides the pauldron color)?
The Sandtrooper that does come with the Dewback is not that great really, its quite a gummy feeling figure probably so it can side astride the Dewback better.

It’s not a popular list but these are my favorites. ROTJ Luke is genuinely my favorite because of the such smooth articulation and solid sculpt, every pose I desire for Skywalker comes out and so much more. Hopefully with a newer head sculpt he’ll be even better!
I didn’t include many I own because while I love having many like Snowspeeder Luke, Clone wars Anakin and Kenobi, Bespin Luke, and many others they lack the smooth and great articulation for poses I desire

WOW, what a great list guys. When you compile figure lists like this you tend to forget how many stellar figure releases that we have had in the Black Series. The Mandalorian Ahsoka head sculpt is out of this world, it just goes to show when Hasbro try they absolutely kill it.The Clone Wars Cad Bane is incredible, the sculpt and detail is amazing!Awesome episode guys.

Good list. Mine is similar although as much as I like some of the newer figures (like CW Maul) in the line the last couple years, none of them have replaced any of my top ten (yet anyway)
HM. Tusken Raider - great sculpt and paint and best soft goods in the line IMO. only downside is weak arm articulation
10. Hoth Rebel Soldier - really no negatives here except could maybe use a little more weathering/dusty snow effect paint?
09. Sandtrooper - from waist up it’s perfect. The horrible A frame legs and bow legged stance of the original stormie body are strikes against for me
08. Gam Guard - maybe the most photogenic figure in the line? Soft goods second only to the Tusken
07. Original Mandalorian - perfectly captured representation of that look of the character. Great details. still find myself picking this up and fiddling 3 years on
06. Imperial Stormtrooper (Mando box) - might be the most realistically sculpted figure in the line top to bottom. Looks like a little person in armor.
05. Deluxe Palpatine - all three face sculpts are awesome. The hands are all awesome. this figure flanked with two royal guards is chefs kiss on shelf
04. Dagobah Luke + Yoda - maybe a cheat but I don’t care. best Luke in the line and the alt head of yoda with the closed eyes is a PERFECT sculpt. My favorite moment in any Star Wars movie ever is yoda raising the xwing from the swamp and that moment is captured with these figures
03. Cad Bane - the detail on this figure is off the charts. Looks like it has more paint than it really does from all the well placed colored plastic
02. Tie ESB Boba/ROTJ Boba - the newer figure is obviously superior in about every way, but I’ll be damned if the original fig doesn’t have shelf presence in spades. I can’t choose between them
01. ESB Vader - only negative is lack of alt hands. Besides that, for the price point it is a perfect Vader figure. another one I just constantly still pick up and fiddle with.
That's a fantastic list, Jhawkjedi! I think the main thing that takes The Mandalorian down a few notches is the helmet sculpt. I really hope they improve on that make it accurate with the new Din! -Justin
Hello Nate and Justin thanks for sharing your thoughts on the best black series figures ever. I like so many others were unable to get the Captain Rex red and black box. I did get the Bad Batch for about $22 dollars so I'll make due. I got my Emperor Palpatine with the throne a couple years ago for a Christmas present, happy me. And this past summer I got an orange line Sandtrooper still in a box for about $30 dollars. The list the two of you created is a very good, solid list. Thanks again guys for taking the time to share your thoughts on these figures. I'll catch up with you on Sunday. Hope you both have a great weekend, Tom

I just watched this and realize my comments of some more recent videos were covered here.
I agree with most of the pick (except for ESB Vader - like the improvements with the body, but still, they could've done better with the helmet -- especially since ESB is my favorite -- missed opportunity, when, as you guys said, they nailed the sand trooper helmet SO WELL.
Dooku, Rosario Ahsoka, Hoth Trooper, etc., etc., sometimes it feels like they have an A-Team for the BS, where they get the sculpts and engineering and accessories just right that makes them untouchable by the imports, and then the C or D team for other figures. It doesn't seem like it's consistent with limitations of technology, budget, or other aspects, but I'd (and I'm sure many collectors) would love to know what allows Hasbro to sometimes 'nail it" and sometimes they hit the thumb with the hammer. I wonder if it's as with many corporate positions where you have some higher up that is a real enthusiasts that says: "we can do better" vs. someone who doesn't care as much who just cares about short-term bottom line. Anyway, sorry for the long comment.

Great list! There are so many good Black Series figures. These 11 mentioned are great figures. The Sand trooper helmet is my minds eye of the storm trooper. I love all the awesome Tatooine figures… tear.Rancor. To me I put Jaina Solo in my top ten. It’s a figure body they’ve used for other great BS bodies. She is a character amalgamed into the sequel trilogy in Rey. But man Jacen and Jaina why didn’t we see you? Anyway Jaina Solo is awesome!

I've given up on getting a Clone Wars Rex, caved and got myself an overpriced Bad Batch Rex. (Knowing my luck they'll do an improved version for season 2) He's going to need some work done, primarily replacing his Kama which came unfixably-crumpled out of the box, thanks Hasbro; i'll likely replace it with the Kama from Commander Appo (again, how are the bootlegs higher quality!?) and i'm not sure how i'll do the helmet without breaking the antenna off... oh, and yeah, Austria did a stupid so we currently can't get shipments from Aliexpress. Soooo yeah. fml.
Annoyingly enough i have a Clone Wars Rex on preorder at the Big Bad Toy Store; i'd be delighted to get that one and turn BB Rex into a custom but i feel like that preorder's just gonna age with me and my tortoise, unfullfilled.

Wow, what an AMAZING list. No doubt every one of the figures that made this list was worthy. Given how many Black Series figures we have now it almost makes sense to do a Top 20 now instead of Top 10. Re: the Emperor, I got lucky and ended up with 4 of them. Grabbed two more when it went on clearance. I now have three Emperors on display using all three head sculpts. So that one worked out well. Congratulations on another great summary. Ironically I missed out on the your #1 Sandtrooper. I started collecting right after the end of the very first wave. However, I did get a Chinese knockoff of this Sandtrooper when my sister went to China on a visit back in 2015. She found it and a few other Orange Wave knockoffs from a street vendor. Looks identical but a part of me knows I’ll have to eventually pay up on eBay to get the real deal someday. Although it feels Hasbro is on track to destroy the line with so many repacks, repaints, kit bashing, inflated pricing, too many deluxe/exclusives, horrible shortfalls on paint apps and weaponry, etc, I’m still holding out hope that at least one out of every 10 new releases will be a banger and worthy of future list consideration. The good old days are clearly over with the line, but there are still a bunch of characters we still need that maybe Hasbro will surprise us in the future. Keep up the good work guys! Cheers! 😁

I went to a flea market last year and found 10 Orange Line Sandtroopers for $180… Greatest find in my life. The figure is amazing but the mold is so outdated. The bowlegs are SOOO ANNOYING but they can be remedied with heat.

I think the ROTJ Boba Fett is one of the few "deluxe" figures that actually felt worth the retail price. They didn't just take off his helmet and jetpack and put them in the package separate, they loaded him with accessories.

Until maybe the Endor rebel rivals it, the Hoth Rebel ought to be #1 - that is pure engineering genius, other than that I pretty much agree, I think. No wait... the sandtrooper? No no no no :) it's a nice figure, but it can hardly stand on it's on, but the amount of accessories is ridiculous (in a good way) so I'll give it that. They should just re-release them but with the new trooper sculpt.

I agree with your list however in a different order, it's hard not to put echo, actually either echo on the list, echo and the umbra trooper should have been somewhere on the list, maybe you guys should do a top 20 I would be very interested to see a top 20,Darth maul should have came in number1, and since the sand trooper has been number 1 for 10 years, I would have just said he's the greatest but not counting him, axe wolves,ventress,rots anikan would have made it in the top 20 closer to number 10 and 11

I just started collecting, i am 15, so i don't have a job, and i have been wondering if TVC or Black Series would be better, i could get more figures a month for the TVC, but i feel like hasbro puts more effort and bang for your buck into the black series, i was wondering if you guys could suggest which line i should collect?
Are you more interested in the figures themselves or are you interested in any worldbuilding aspects of collecting? TVC usually gets more accessories, dioramas, vehicles, etc. But Black Series has the better figure sculpts/articulation, considering it's a bigger scale. -Justin
@OutOfTheBasement I am a huge fan of being able to worldbuild and I really enjoy making dioramas
TVC (and 3.75" scale in general) is the worldbuilding scale for sure! 6" is more-so for the appreciation of the character, the sculpt, the articulation, etc. But you'll get more accessories, more dioramas, more vehicles, more worldbuilding in TVC. -Justin

I feel bad for people who couldn't get that original Captain Rex. I got him for like 6 bucks, but that was because BBTS had a sale of the whole wave of mostly garbage sequel trilogy figures for $45.

The Gam guards don’t have any character in the films. It’s hard to love someone with no personality. ESB is the greatest SW film. Great show guys.

First off I just got Darth Maul Clone wars and he should be on this list that's how great this figure is so correct guys!
My favorite off all time is just like your guy's, the Orange Line Sandtrooper, plus the Shadow Squadron trooper the helmet is so amazing! My favorite because of how screen accurate it is! I so miss the weathering the paint! Bring it back! The Deluxe Bobba Fett OMG was such a great lift for the black series! You're right Justin the flight suit should have had weathering on it. Darth Maul clone wars! Yeah he just is perfect in every way! I have him posed with Ahsoka with his articulation it looks so great and I have the Mandolorian Ahsoka posed with him because of her articulation they both go together great. Anyways, Orange Line Sandtrooper is my all time favorite! Thanks OOTB!

Maybe a silly question, but is the ESB Vader that comes in the Empire card back the same figure as the one on the list? Or is the original release superior. Thanks for the videos guys! Even as a hardcore Star Wars fan, hopping into the Black Series always kind of intimidated me. Then CZcams randomly suggested one of y'all's videos and I realized it was doable with a little direction. Good stuff guys ✊🏽

Thank you, fun episode! Probably I am not directly in the target audience, still, I would like to express my gratitude for your great CZcams action figure shows. I'm restarting currently a part of my action figure hobby which combines with the radio control, 'scale' crawlers (4x4 off-road). Hence the YT alias. An extra thank you therefore to you both gentlemen, Nate and Justin. Maybe we'll see you in the rc off-road scene as a cool cross-over sometime, that would be very nice. Keep rubbing it in that the Emperor was easy to get. Ahhhhhh. Jk. 🤣. I'll also never get Shadow Squadron either, but I did paint a Carbonized Scout to look like the Shadow Scout. As for the Rex, for some weird reason my BBTS preorder says 2nd Quarter 2023, but I'm not holding my breath. I also got Maul in and that's a spectacular figure. Great list. 👍

Ahhhh shit!!!! You guysss!! I'm sick of watching your top 10's and ending up with 7/8/9 of the bloody figures. I was watching smugly until no. 2 and I forgot about that sodding throne Emperor. Doesn't matter that there's 12 shinies, 16 hoth rebels, 5 bloody gams, both Rexs, 3 orange sandies and every other bloody sandie they've made including shadow dude all sat upstairs. Where's your throne room Emperor Davey? I hear you all mock! Well, I'll bloody tell you. I just went on ebay and so help me God it best be on there. It was and I just bought it. Mic drop. I rule!
