For most 80s and 90s kids Richard Simmons was an enigma constantly in our view. There have been so many rumors as we all tried to figure out what was behind his over the top public persona. I still know very little about him. This only left me wanting more. You're right, it would be awesome to give it the same treatment as the Mr Rogers movie. There probably are a lot of parallels. The Internet wasn't wrong. Pauly nailed the role just like we always said he could!
Awesome short episode. I just found Shore's youtube a couple of days ago. Brilliant stuff good that he is getting back into doing comedy. I left you a comment on ''the other shore movies'' So rad that Feldman could have been in Encino man??

From the perspective of a Gen X fat kid, Richard Simmons hold a special place in my heart. He made people really want to like themselves. in 2024 with all the strides made in body acceptance and positivity it’s hard to imagine what it was like 40 years ago if you didn’t live it.
I thought Polly Shores portrayal was beautiful and then completely respectfully of Richard Simmons. I hope that if he chooses to watch it, then he will view it as the love letter to him that I saw is as for all the lives touched. ❤
If you watch the episode of Ellen this is based on all of the onscreen talk show action is pretty accurate. The main difference is Ellen is holding the DVD. Soul Man was the song originally. This sounds like a recreated instrumental.

Nice acting from Paulie. I’m serious, I thought he did a good job.
Pauly is a hell of an actor. But i will say this. The few times i have met him and interacted with him. He has been a huge jerk. But i may have to give this a watch. Son in law was the bomb yo!!!!
