  • Since it will take at least another year until I have time to finish my giant lava lamp project, in the meantime here are a few short previews of my best-working prototypes so far.
The lava in this prototype is pure benzyl alcohol.

I really like the partial transparency and the interesting flow, wish these were buyable

Hi man, great stuff, I really like the jiggly behaviour of the benzyl alcohol and the way it combines together. Would you mind just quickly telling me what did you use to color the alcohol itself?

      I used Solvent Violet 13 ( www.kremer-pigmente.com/en/shop
      /dyes-vegetable-color-paints/synthetic-dyes-solvent-soluble-solvent-dye
s/wax-colorant/35350-macrolex-violet-b.html). However, if you are trying to make anything similar I would advise against it, I have made four prototypes with Benzyl Alcohol and they all turned completely cloudy after less than a day of runtime (will all be in the final video when it comes out). Maybe there's a way to mitigate that but I didn't find one.

@@Makstuff There's none benzyl alcohol will form micelles in the oil water solution, stick to non polar solvents for the wax.
