  • How make a round hog trap with saloon doors from a steel spool frame. Top of the trap also has a cut-out section so that any deer entering the trap have a way to get out.

Looks interesting. Now does it work, how effectively, and how indestructible is it once a few boars have been caught? What evidence of multiple catches and avoidance is there?
A mesh floor insert would likely make sense, at least in some conditions. The trip of a rod hinged into equal halves is simpler.
The round design seems a good idea.

Great ingenuity and design. There doesn’t appear to be anything to keep them from rooting under and figuring out they can get their nose under it and lift it up to escape tho??? I learned the hard way that you have to either stake down a lightweight trap or install at least a partial wire floor

S Holland I use four heavy duty stakes and haven't had any lift it up yet. You could easily wire hog panel to the top and bottom though, just adds a bit more weight.

TejasCazador Good deal man. I figured you thought of that but just didn’t hear ya say it. I learned it the hard way by losing one 😁

Great design! Can you tell me how the door mechanism works?

Thanks! Basically, two springs hold the door shut against the door stops you see in the video. Use the fulcrum rod to prop the doors open and the tension wire will essentially release the doors when bumped.

It's pretty but have you caught any hogs in it?

I get these rings constantly from my job site and didn't know what I could do with them. Now I do ! Do you have prints or instructions on how you did the door mechanism? I live in NE Texas in the woods and these will come in handy.

How many have you caught with it or how has it worked out for you?

What size spring did you use? Do you have a part number?

How did you make the door hinges, looks cleaner than welding stainless door hinges to them like I was wanting to do.

Clint E I used a solid steel rod from top to bottom and ran it through the square tubing.

Richard Cameron I've set the trap twice this year.. first time I caught a single boar and the second time nothing came through. Need to find a better spot but overall, the mechanism works great.
