  • Dr. E. Wes Ely is a professor of medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine with subspecialty training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Ely’s research has focused on improving the care and outcomes of critically ill patients with Post Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS)/ICU-acquired brain disease. He also is the founder and co-director of the Critical Illness, Brain Dysfunction, and Survivorship (CIBS) Center, an organization devoted to research and ongoing care for people affected by critical illness. Recently, Dr. Ely has started to work on projects to help and study patients with COVID-19 and LongCovid. He is the author of "Every Deep-Drawn Breath": a book that blends science, medical history, and the stories of PICS patients, with the goal of improving empathy and treatment for PISC sufferers.
