I have fond memories visiting the school in the late sixties and there seemed to be a good school spirit which seems to still persist today; which is probably why - along with St. Joseph's - they are still going strongly; a jewel in the crown of the Marist order.
Forgive me, but who was that picture of in the last set, a beloved instructor who passed, maybe. There was palpable emotion on the faces of several of these young men as they performed - I could tell it was difficult. Whoever he was (and I know "was" is an assumption here) he would've been proud of this performance. Congratulations and respect from the USA, gentlemen. Bravo!

I have loved all things Maori since my first exposure to your culture more than 40 years ago. Considering when this video was posted, I now understand how fresh the wounds were and how great the loss. Morvin Te Anatipa Simon. He was a student and teacher at Hato Paora, he was mentored by the founder of Hato Paora, Pa Isaac Gupwell. Very well respected man in Aotearoa.

Does anyone know where to find the video of there performance at the 2014 Nationals? I know its the same program as this one but the sound quality is alot clearer and better at Nats. Ive checked Maori tv and its not there.
Most Maori today have fair skin because they are less exposed to working in direct sun light and their skin tone has lightened. When Polynesians first entered the Pacific from Asia they possessed East Asian DNA and they were originally fair skinned people. As they entered the pacific they mingled with the Melanesians who are definitely dark skinned people but moved they moved on into the Pacific Ocean to settle Polynesia. Because of their DNA Polynesian's are fairer compared to Melanesians. Some parts of Fiji were settled by polynesians so they have a lighter skin colouring compared to native fijians. As a Maori I find your comment offensive because this Kapa Haka group of young men are performing for their people and their ancestors not for the colour of their skin.

Very sincere and moving performance! It looks like they had to adapt to a smaller stage...difficult considering all their choreography. Captivating!
