‘Tongues’ (read, *‘languages’* ) - the divine gift, is the God given ability to effortlessly learn to speak and be understood through real-language barriers. It is not xenoglossy, nor is it the self-created non-cognitive non-language utterance of modern tongues-speech.

Tongues are a gift of the Holy Spirit and if given the gift I believe it should be used, the problem is that man wrote what the inspired word of God had given to them by the Holy Spirit. But I think sometimes man decided to over think it and made it more complicated in the process. I was prayed over in the Spirit and received this misunderstood and beautiful gift.
There are basically 2 types of tongues one is Praise and worship, that is a prayerful tongue of praise when in a group or even by oneself when singing and tongues start introducing themself in the singing is a praise tongue and that I believe is fine to be prayed in public worship for everyone that’s more along the lines of what happened at Pentecost.
The other is receiving prophesy in tongue and then it’s necessary for someone who has the gift of discernment to explain the prophetic tongue to the group or else as inspired as it might have been it’s useless because nobody could understand it.
Praise tongue is my favorite because the Holy Spirt will move very powerfully during this form of praise.

Stephanie, when you were speaking in tongues, was it an actual language? All instances of Tongues in the Bible were actual human languages being spoken. The babbling that modern charasmatic Christians do is most definitely not the gift of the Spirit.
