    Awesome video! Which R&C A class would you recommend to me as someone who never particularly liked writing huge essays at school? Thanks!

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you! Haha most R&C classes will be very reading and writing heavy since that's the whole requirement. But you can try to find "easy A" R&C classes, which you would still have to put in the time and effort, but may be 'easier' than other R&C courses. Check out this site where you can scroll through all the R&C A classes that are offered next fall and read their descriptions to see if the class sounds interesting (classes.berkeley.edu/search/class/?f%5B0%5D=im_field_term_name%3A2208&f%5B1%5D=sm_general_requirement%3A1st%20Half%20of%20Reading%20%26%20Composition). I've heard that French R1A is an easy R&C that my friends and many other students try to take because it is easier. Also, you may want to look into the Film R1As (or movie/TV based R&C courses) if you like watching movies over reading books haha. I just filmed a Berkeley Class Schedule Advice video where I walk through how to find classes, so that may be helpful for you - czcams.com/video/FhyBgDWIaEg/video.html. Hope this helps!

    Hi Rachel! I submitted my UC application! I'm in the MATH 55 equivalent course this semester and I'm already dying. I'm also not looking forward to the CS 61A equivalent course next semester. Struggles of being a Cog Sci major who doesn't care for programming, am I right? 😅 I hope you're doing okay though! 😊

    before choosing where to go, what were you final picks of schools you were choosing between? and how did you decide between them

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 3 lety

      Good question! I was accepted into UCLA but had never visited the campus and did not think it was necessarily the right fit for me. I was on the waitlist for Berkeley and some other schools at the time. But I originally committed to the university of Maryland (UMD) and I was accepted into their honors college, got a bunch of scholarships, and in-state tuition was a big factor. I had gotten off of the waitlist for Berkeley and thought that the opportunities that this school offers would outweigh the out of state tuition costs. Choosing a college could tbh be a whole video in itself haha, but this blog Nina wrote for Study Hall College Consulting might be helpful- www.shcollegeconsulting.com/our-advice-blog/picking-the-right-college. Let me know if you have other questions 😁

    The trolley problem... did they not go into depth with the Phil class, cause although I’m doing molecular bio with a minor in bioeng, I though that the point of the breadth...was to educate us different aspects

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 3 lety +1

      I believe the Trolley Problem was one of the philosophical dilemmas/debates that we looked at! That was the most interesting one to me, so that's why I mentioned it specifically, but you are right, breadths do try to teach you about various topics with the breadth field and class topic!

    Wanted to ask if it's possible to get in uc berkeley with a sat score of 1100

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 2 lety

      The UCs no longer consider the SAT/ACT in admission. So yes it is possible to get admitted to UC Berkeley with a 1100 SAT because you do not submit your SAT score when applying. Focus on your grades, class rigor, extracurriculars, and essays! Here is an article the standardized test change: calmatters.org/education/higher-education/2021/11/uc-admissions-no-tests/

    i was planning to take ugba10 and im an incoming freshman 🙃

    • @rachel_lin
      @rachel_lin  Před 3 lety

      Haha definitely go for it! But do be aware of the grading since all of the exams are multiple choice, so it can be difficult to get an A since a couple of multiple choice questions wrong on each of the exams will be a B. Some pre-haas students like to wait until the spring semester of their sophomore year to take UGBA 10 just in case they don’t get into haas, then they can drop the class and focus on another major requirement, like Econ classes. But you can do this, study hard, make study groups, go to office hours if you have questions and you can earn the grades you want!! 💪🏻🐻
