    ok, not to rag because there certainly is a few valid criticisms in your review, QA is a good example, port placement is another. But port selection? check before you buy, easy. windows hello doesn't work with glasses? It never does, it's specifically designed not to do so. it's heavy? that's pretty easy to check before you buy as well. you didn't like the screen? Should have chosen another one, or not have bought it if it didn't have an option that suited you. As for battery life... Seriously, what did you expect? You can turn on optimus and lower the hz on the screen for maybe 4-5 hours, not that you took the time to do research on that, presumably, but still, gaming laptops doesn't have good battery life without heavy modification (controlling screen brightness and hz, capping cpu to 20w using throttlestop, disabeling the gpu using optimus, etc etc). Fan spin on light-moderate usage... yeah, gaming laptops have that too. you have simply bought the wrong device for you. it's like buying a high performance lawnmower and complaining that it is heavy and loud, yes, it by necessity is.

      I do certainly appreciate where you're coming from on this and understand that there is a HUGE fanbase of Alienware products (myself included) and that did not happen randomly. So it was even more of a shock to me recognizing these flaws. I am loyal to the full experience, and the escape that these brilliant machines offer into our respective gaming worlds. Not to the brand. And you have to realize, I did not make this review as some disgruntled consumer. Desktop research is only a tiny part of the story and can also be quite biased. My expectations are based purely on my previous interactions with Alienware and many other gaming devices. Which offer MUCH less compromise at similar price points and buyers should know that instead of just accepting these flaws as is and letting these brands get lazy. We as consumers and gamers should help these brands set a better standard rather than letting blind fanboys ferry new entrants into this portable gaming sector with bad experiences.
      Also, I'm sorry but your comment around biometrics is just not true. You can easily log in via Windows Hello while wearing your glasses as well. The sensor needs to be decent enough to process all the visual information properly.

      I have not been able to get my hands on it yet but I have heard great things about the Lenovo Legions in that department. High TGPs coupled with great thermals and an overall good solid laptop. I have high hopes from their 2022 lineup with 12th gen intels and 6000 series Ryzen devices

    What do you think about the x17 R2 ? The specs I just bought were: i7, 32 gb ram, 3070 ti, 1 tb...the reason for this..i9 not worth the extra money, 32 gb is the sweet spot, 3080 ti not worth the extra price...was going for the best value...

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee  Před 2 lety

      Have not gotten my hands on it. It is possible that Dell fixed all the minor issues with the R2 that i observed in the R1. If it happened with Razer, possible that the R2 is also a variant where everything is a bit better. Still one downfall from my POV is that they still do not offer a QHD screen. On a 17inch, 1080p is stretching it. And with that 3070ti, QHD would be a sweet spot and the visuals would be soooo much nicer. I think they still use the 720p camera in the R2 which is also a bummer. :/

  • @furnitureandbedding776

    Glad I watched this. I'm in the process of buying my first ever gaming laptop and just like you Alienware was always an aspirational brand to me. I primarily play RTS games and heard the x16 and M16 are optimized for really good performance in quiet mode. Starting to second guess my decision though and thinking I would be overall happier with a Blade 16. My final two contenders are the X16 Vs Blade 16. I could get the X16 with the 4080 for $1200 dollars cheaper than the Blade 16 and that includes the extended dell warranty with accidental damage coverage as well. Am I silly to pass on that or should I just get the Blade 16 and fork out the extra money

      So listen. I actually got the x16 for a review and just havent been able to find time out of work to put my review through. I geniunely like it! Basically, bear with me.. @@kazmiee yea. Love mechanical keyboard. My x16 build would have the cherry mx clicky option. I know Command center sucks. I can live with that. I’ve done my research. Right now I want to play rts games like dune spice wars dow 3 and c&c collection maxed out graphics and quiet. I’d like to think I could achieve this with the x16 in quiet mode. I know I could achieve this with the blade 16 in normal mode which is probably the same fan noise level as the x16 quiet mode. I get I could just use headphones but I’ve been saving a lot for this purchase and I’d rather not compromise. Size or weight isn’t ah issue. I just want quiet as possible gaming. I adore Alienware laptops style but I don’t want to sacrifice my needs just for a cheaper laptop and good looks.

      Thank you for the support Silver. My goal is to only get gamers to enjoy their content with convenience, portability, little compromise and without spending an arm and a leg for it. I am a huge supporter of the laptop becoming a key medium for gaming especially for those people who have very busy schedules. Poor experiences mean they lose faith in this medium pushing them to the likes of consoles and I just dont like that. I did try to be as straight forward as possible. I admit, the title may seem a bit aggressive and yeah even a bit desperate but I was just tired at looking at people blindly praise this device and just be typical fanboys. :)

    Absolute garbage review based on your personal bias. The same laptop has been praised by numerous other reviewers who have way more credibility. Instead of only nitpicking the shortcomings why not showcase the design & build that no other brand provides. The performance is also second to none, the only downside is the speakers.

      Sorry you feel that way man. I know I totally just attacked the device, maybe it was just my piece but just reporting on my observations. I was actually looking forward to making this my second device but even I was disappointed after hearing glowing reviews from others. Also, popular reviewers do not necessarily mean credible. :) I bought this myself and had no reason to be biased.

      I think you should have got a new unit. I will say this i had the x15 r2 with 1tb ssd, 12gen i712700h, 3070ti, 16gb ahd 240hz display got it for 2100 out the door going through dell. And yes there are some QC issues because they manufacturer so many but dells warranty and no hassle return service along with next day in home support is amazing. You wont get that with razer or other companies. Also my x15 r2 had 0 issues great. I returned it today because i actually want the x17 r2 with i7, 3070ti, and 4k 120hz display. I never buy the first generation ofna new product. Always gauruntee some type of issues. But why you paid 3g for your specs is insane. Also razerblade which ive had two of their laptops have the absolute worst customer service and they overheart like crazy and synapse is weak. You knew the the port selection and display when you bought it. Alienware makes one of the best keyboards on any laptop and you could have opted for the mechanical keyboard. It also uses the most premium glass and drivers for the touch pad. Good luck with you future products and no windows hello doesnt work with glasses. And i dont known if your lighting was shitty fornthe webcam 🙃 even though 90 percent of gaming laptops are 720p webcams. They also offer 2 1080p displays. Only thing i agree with is i also believe they should have offered a qhd panel but ill happy with the 4k. And yes you can run games at 4k with the 3070ti just fine and if you need to downscale to 1440p it runs like its native. Watch youtuber "mash it" as he has all the models from the x1 and x2 gen laptops. Some gamers do want 360hz for esports competitive shooters. And i dont know what settings you are running but on balanced mode for non game usage i got 4 hours of use. Its a gaming laptop all batteries are not that good. Also i use nvidia for my gpu drivers and alienware update for everything else. And windows for just those basic updates.
