I already had four grown up children and then remarried. At age 45, I was surprised to find myself pregnant. Natural birth, perfect boy. So we tried for another at age 47. Natural birth, perfect boy. I would have tried for more, but my husband was sensible (?!). They are both strong and healthy and very intelligent aged now 29 and 27.

But you don't know that those women are menopausal or have "no eggs". I'm over 52 and not even perimenopausal. One of my sisters was in menopause and had a natural pregnancy and healthy baby at age 48. We are all aging differently and some people still do have eggs past 50 (which is not to say that people aren't using donor eggs). Anyway, current science is pointing towards the fact the the ovaries do indeed contain egg stem cells which can produce new eggs. The paradigm is shifting.

I think that it is dangerous for doctors to make one size fits all conclusions. Every person is different. I just watched a video of a woman in Africa that birthed 44 babies. She is 38 years old. Each pregnancy she carried a litter of babies - quintuplets, quadruplets, twins, etc. The doctors tried to tie her tubes but she still got pregnant. So, I say all that to say - ladies, trust yourself. If your spirit tells you that there is a baby for you to birth, believe it! Don't let any doctor steal your dream.

Come on now. There is no absolute way to know if a woman has no eggs left. This is why women like my aunt who was in menopause for two yrs, ended up preg at 55. The egg calculation is only a guess.
Got my first at 42 with no assisted medical help.
Got another at 45 with taking all those pills you mentioned n prayer to God and right now am 47 will conceived again.

Oh don’t let this fool you. I went to a fertility center I tried on my own When I was 49 and then I decided to go with the donor and they took my money 24,000 to be exact because anybody over 45 cannot use their insurance… But they never told me throughout the year I was going there that my uterine lining never reached 7 mm and then gave me the egg transfer a 5.8 mm and I had a chemical pregnancy, chances are it was definitely the thickness of my uterine lining… They don’t tell you everything they should’ve told me I wasn’t a good candidate instead of taking my money… It’s not so easy getting pregnant with a donor egg, chances are greater but there are still other obstacles they don’t tell you in the beginning.

This made me have happy tears after I had sad tears when I was told to 'close the chapter'. I'm now 44 and it took me a few months to accept that I can get pregnant with donor eggs. I actually had fun searching donor profiles and saved quite a few. My husband wants a genetic baby, which kinda makes it a little harder cause donor eggs are sooo $$$$$$. Embryo adoption has also been on my mind cause it's cheaper. But, whatever we choose I have to get my fibroids checked first in October. I may use Lupron to shrink them. I heard that's a fun drug (sarcasm).

If you are going to get a donor egg, ask relatives first, as they are closer in your own DNA.

My now 6 year old son was born when I was 45. Natural conception and completely surprising pregnancy. My hubby and I already had 3 kids who were already in their teens and preteens at the time. Thankfully, he was born very healthy and still remains bright and healthy. God is so good! I'm so grateful, I would advise women not to wait too long to attempt to have a child. Seeing older celebrities having babies IS an emotional trigger, especially to those of us who cannot have kids but went through several IVF treatments trying to use our own eggs. I know someone who prayed to conceive (they had fertility issues) and had 2 kids at 35 and 40 respectively but God also has given people rationale and forethought. If most women have fertility problems at a certain age, it would make sense to research ivf, egg freezing etc. as God has given humans the brains to devise these procedures... I know it's not for everyone and having excess embryos sitting in storage (which can be a by product of ivf), unused or even destroyed, goes against my personal ethics but certain procedures might be worth considering...

Is there an age when you'd discourage a healthy woman or couple from getting pregnant? My husband has never had a biological child and we met when it was apparently too late for us to conceive naturally as we have never used birth control and I conceived 4 times easily as a younger woman. I am now in menopause and on estrogen. I'm in excellent physical shape and people are always stunned when they discover that I am 53. My family all lives well into old age (even up to 100 in a couple cases), no diseases or health problems. My pregnancies were healthy and I gave birth naturally. My reproductive organs are all in tact, and I have no personal or family history of miscarriages, stillbirths, or birth defects. My sons would say my biggest issue has been passing down my height deficiency ( I'm short), but since I'd be using a donor egg anyway this baby wouldn't have to worry about that! Also, if you wanted them to have a sibling could you have twins?
Age is just a number. At the same time, there are risks in pregnancy as we get older no matter how fit you are. The biggest risk is pre-eclampsia. I think we have really good strategies to prevent it like aspirin in pregnancy. I personally don't think you're too old at 53 to have a baby. I have plenty of patients in their early 50s just like you who feel ready to have a baby and feel the energy of a 20 year old! And we don't usually transfer 2 for many reasons because of all the risks involved.

Yes! You won't know until you get your levels checked. Egg freezing is for women in their 30s and 40s. As long as you have eggs and you're under the age of 45, there's a chance an egg can be a healthy one. It's just harder to find a good egg over the age of 37. But not impossible. It's worth doing if your hormone levels are good.

I just turned 50 in April my periods became irregular in 2019 i didnt have a period in almost a year then December 2020 i had a period then had another in January 2021 i had a tubal in 1996 May doctor said he had cut burned and tied my tubes April 27th 2021 went in for ankle surgery and they have all women take pregnancy test before they wont do surgery if woman is pregnant the nurse came back told me i was pregnant she done another test results same surgery was cancelled had another test came back positive and 3 blood tests came back pregnant but very low hcg i have hypothyroidism my thyroid level is very high has been for over a year 2 ultrsound both showed a sac with a baby in it doctor said he dont believe i was said something is making my body think I am on 2nd ultra sound he told me it was a failed pregnancy said i need a d&c went to another doctor he said i didnt need a d&c said I wasnt pregnant i even saw the sac and something in it both ultra sounds inside my uterus so now im going for a sonogram tomorrow what is happening to me please help

It’s not common but it’s not impossible. The stories of regular people, not celebrities who are getting pregnant over 45 are the ones who weren’t trying. It’s usually a shock and surprise.

Ok I was 41 and had my first child very healthy. Younger girls I met in their 20s had preeclampsia and premature babies so why speaking like it's only older women that have those problems. You have a very low chance at 41 with an AMH of 0.3. I would do the following: 1. treat your diabetes 2. Ask your doctor about surgery for your complex cyst 3. Hello Dr. Aimee! I am 34 years old and going through pre menopause. According to my blood work my doctor told me I have either no eggs or no healthy eggs and put me on prempro. I even made an appointment with a fertility doctor who didn’t run any test but said my only option was to implant a donor egg. This is just not something I want to do. Run those test from 3 other different clinics to see if the results are coming same and do the average of those results
, also AMH can vary time to time, so run it in few months apart. And don’t give up, if it still less then try mini IVF to see yourself what exactly happens after stimulation. Just don’t give up and keep fighting.

You're welcome. Yes, you can get pregnant. Get your AMH Level checked and a day 3 FSH and estradiol. See if you have eggs left. If you don't have periods anymore, it could be related to menopause which is NORMAL after the age of 40. And using donor eggs is a great option! Find an egg donor that resembles you and your baby will resemble you as well. Or your husband :)

And how get to see if I have eggs left How does one "find an egg donour", what does it all cost,does the state pay for it like sex change,or is it oneself? They won't even let one test for one's blood type. I asked a Dr to test for Klebsiellapneumoniae, he said yes but then refused. I have Anchylosing Spondylitis, but Drs say I am healthy and only need psycho-therapy.!? There’s also the factor that many of the female celebrities that become “pregnant” in later life were born men. The ones that lose their baby bump within a week of giving birth? It’s a facade.

Yes! I believe in the fertility of every patient I meet. I don’t think of a patient as a number, an fsh level, an amh level of an age. I look at their fertility indicators then give them their fertility facts so they go into treatment knowing everything. And of course I have 42 year old patients too that are moms from their own eggs. But 10 percent will be successful. The 90 percent need to know the real deal before treatment so they don’t feel misled or misguided.

she can! for women at 56 we usually recommend working with a surrogate but if she's in excellent health, she could carry too!

I have been post menopausal for probably 10 years on HRT, and I believe I have ovulated at least twice since being post menopausal-once being a couple of weeks ago. I had tender breasts which I haven’t had in years and clear thick sticky discharge which seemed like ovulation. There is a thing called Rogue Ovulation. No interest in having kids at my age, but would love to know why this happens if I have no eggs? Couldn’t find any info other than it does happen.
