- "The Estate" star Toni Collette was delivering pizzas when she landed the lead in "Muriel’s Wedding," the 1994 sleeper hit rom-com sensation that turned her into an international star. “It completely changed my life,” the now-50-year-old performer says of her eponymous role as the socially awkward, ABBA-loving video store clerk who dreams of getting hitched. “It opened up so many doors and gave me so many amazing opportunities. It made me feel like I could really do this. I never thought that I would have a career. I just thought that it was a one-off, to be honest.”

A very vibrant, grounded actress who will go from big budget films to small, independent productions because she simply likes the story. One of the few, true gems of the big screen.
She reminds me of Jodie Foster in that respect. She doesn't just do a movie because she thinks it will be a blockbuster. She picks and chooses very carefully.
What a great great career she's carved for herself. A truly great actress - and she seems to down to earth, too! I've loved her since Muriel's Wedding. Can't believe that was almost 30 years ago.

A few days after this was filmed Toni found out her husband of 20 years Dave was cheating on her for almost a year, after pictures of him kissing his mistress Collette on a beach where, plastered all over the internet. Toni was shocked and devastated but now they are amicably divorcing and she’s moving on. Wishing Toni all the health and happiness she deserves x
first of all how do you know when this was filmed? upload date ≠ day of filming. and how do you know they weren't seperated the past year and she knew he had a "mistress" but him being sloppy and letting himself get photographed meant she had to finally be public with it?

Muriels Wedding, is probably in the top 15 movies of all time. It deserves to be and is justified. It is totally Austrailian film and like Crocodile Dundee had so much heart and honesty, and with Muriel most people could probably empathise with her. THat is the magnitifude of talent who is Toni Coletti. It is to Austrialian film culture to what Trainspotting is for Scottish film culture. Muriels Wedding is a milestone in movies. Youre Terrible Muriel, so funny. Everyone knows someone like Muriels sister. Too funny.
