R.I.P. Niki Lauda. He was a great driver and a great person.
Mwi O Yes he was. I got to meet him once when I was little.
RIP Niki
@@kyloten-raikerz6638 lol
But for sure not a nice or generous one.
But for sure not a generous one.
@Tristan Ellis he means he died like 4 months ago
As a first time viewer, I'm just staring with my mouth wide open. Incredible driving with an ancient Formula car and commentating at the same time? Yeah subscribed.
after that he will learn basic stuff, like where niki crashed.
you can easily spot it in any footage and you would spot it in GPL even.
Grand Prix Legends.
@@MrTiti you sound jealous
my man
He crashed on the grey biton the right
Rewatching this after reading the leyend himself died. RIP Niki Lauda.
Same just came up in my reccomeneded, R.I.P
Why can none of u speel
I think Niki Lauda crashed in the kink before bergwerk- the one at 5:47 , but I'm not one to kinkshame
Mm kinky comment
Yes it was in the kink before Bergwerk...
Indeed it was. In fact; it's even called Lauda's Kink nowadays on the Official Nurburgring Trackguide :)
That's precisely where it happened. 👍
Yup.
Ive actually sat in that car in real life !! As a baby .. my dad worked for brabhams in the 70s..
fish geekz that is so cool!!! You lucky son of a bitch!
I recently saw the car such a blessing
Lucky bastard
Lauda's brabham had offset steering wheel..to make room for gear shift!
I saw senna's chief mechanic last year
Lauda is savage, told Enzo himself that Ferrari is piece of junk 😂 Rip Legend
Ballsy af lmao
Its a ferrari
Its a shitbox
@@genericcarchannel amazing, you have all those facilities and make a piece of crap like this
@@sevvvich8118 ohhhhhh you can’t say that
@@Hyenatime it's a Ferrari !
You should drive the Hennessey Venom GT around the ring. 1200HP, no grip all the way to the top of 3rd gear, manual and it hates to take any kind of turns. I think you'd like it
Modern Cerbera, or the Zenvo. Who knows.
No
@@WynnofThule zenvo handles well believe it or not, love driving that car.
@@Cassius. yes*
There’s nothing more frustrating than doing a great lap on this track but then you get spat out of the Karussell early. Such a frustrating corner, famous but not enjoyable to go round.
I always have to lean in to the left every time I take the Karussell, if I don't I never make it haha.
"Any time I look at the throttle it's looking for an excuse to do naughty things to me and usually I'd like that but not on a hot lap"
But, Jimmer. Isn't that why they call it a "HOT lap"?
“It’s a shitbox!”
RIP Niki Lauda
ForceMaximus84 you can’t say that! It’s a Ferrari!!
Jimmy there's no such thing as racing on the Nordschleife too often 😉
should try Targa Florio then. that's why I still love RFactor
Jimmy i think this is one of your best videos, natural commentator, not an easy task & then having to drive the track as well (while ill) always a pleasure.
Drivers of that era were literally daredevils
They are quite safe if you think at the reca from 1900 to 1960
@@gillespriod5509 dude, they were not safe *at all* in that era.

Fun fact Niki held the lap record for the Ring until beaten by the Porsche 956
Irish Munchkin wasnt the nordschleife like 2 miles shorter for construction during that run? I mean it's still impressive but I wanna see how the times would compare on the full track
And probably the only reason the Porsche took the record was because it was on the modern form of the Nordschleife, only used because they were still building the modern GP circuit at that time.
Niki's lap record was on the older version, which had a pair of ~1km straights and a hairpin (the Südkehre) where the GP circuit is now. - as you can see in images like: c7.alamy.com/comp/HKY011/1969-start-nurburgring-german-gp-germany-HKY011.jpg
Irish Munchkin Lauda possibly was faster, he raced a longer version of the nordschleife
He had the record on the old Nordschleife, the 956 did it's record on the new one which was modified to make room for the Grand Prix Circuit
GV43_#Arianator #JB17
In 1976 there were four layouts, Gesamstreke, Nordschleife, Sudschleife, and Bentonschleife
I was named after Niki Lauda! hes such a legend!
Niki524 Guess which driver I was named after ☺
The one and only Senna? :)
Niki524 Yes sir :D
two of my favorite drivers of all time, Senna was a really, really fast and kind hearted driver :)
I was named after Damon Hill... my dog is called Senna and my brother is called Colin, you can guess why.. haha
lauda is the real champion of that seasons
since he had to miss out on several races for hunt to catch up to him
This is probably by far my favourite car and driver, love to hear the V12's back in action
R.I.P Niki Lauda
RIP Niki :'( You were a warrior and a true inspiration
Since I started watching your videos I've done 2 things, Bought Project Cars 2, and yesterday I scored a Logitech G920 wheel and Driving force shifter for just £179 new all in from pc world. Got to say the wheel is a game changer for me. My partner seriously hopes you don't inspire me to buy something else. Lol she's got no idea. Nice lap man.
Next thing you have to buy is a ticket for the Nordschleife
Welcome to the world of sim racing! It's a great time to get involved. I'm assuming you're playing on an Xbox, which is just fine. However, if you really get into it like I did, you'll eventually get a PC and a VR headset. Then it's all over. Next thing you know, you'll be selling a kidney to pay for a direct drive wheel and a motion rig. Which reminds me, I have a kidney for sale if anyone is looking...
TheGreatC81 I’m getting a g920 with a shifter but I don’t know if I should get a stand
Love the lap time graphic at the end! Top notch improvement
Do the James Hunt mclaren
fittipaldi
@@DaniFold he wasn't driving McLaren at the time Niki had his accident
Glad to hear you needed several attempts due to crashing - I tried A LOT myself and NEVER finished a lap at this pace. Well done! (btw: very nice rig !)
Brilliant commentary. Fantastic to watch expert footwork on the pedals. Please put the speed/gear indicator on a fixed point on the screen and in mph as well if poss. Brilliant channel.
This video contains spoilers for Rush. :P
SPOILER: It drives like a pig :D
You can't say that! It's a Ferrari!
Sebastian Nie its a shitbox
Such a great film
Lauda himself said it was about 90% accurate
Who saw Kimi run over his mechanic's leg?
Sam Jones I saw the slo-mo and threw up a little
I saw that I didn’t know they had to retire if they screwed up a tire change or whatever he did
that one really sucked. Kimi got the green lights even though the old left rear tyre was still on!! Hopefully the poor mechanic will be back next season
inb4 kimi goes back to mclaren in 2019
pff yer right jorge
This is now my #1 favourite new racing channel, sweet setup lad!
love the lap board at the end
I'm getting this game tomorrow 😃😃😃 Watching your videos really gave me a good idea of what to expect!
One step closer to real motorsport
Jimmy, would you ever consider appending the cinematic replay to the end of your hotlap videos? I would like to watch from a spectator perspective as well as the instructional aspect the current format provides. That is so much for these. Great stuff as always.
love the final timechart great addition!
Great run and commentary I woke up saying how the hell did they drive F1 cars with h shifter, now I know! ?Much to learn.
In silent memories of niki lauda... (died 20. May 2019)
Niki lauda passed today and this came in my recommended
Awesome foot and handwork! My respect.
Hello , nostalgie avec cette Ferrari 312t , quel régal , bon pilotage et bonne vidéo.
I agree with J. Maverick. Great driving all the while commentating. You've got "MAD SKILLS"! I to subscribed without a dought.👍
Do more vids just like this, loving them
Jimmy you are SO good at this!
These cars and how they were driven still blows my mind
Astonishing footwork jimmy 😯
Cool video. Well done on the commentary while driving.
Hey Jimmer, great video as usual. You should take the Mazda RadBul Mx-5 around the Nordschleife in Project Cars 2 :)
Amazing Video !!!!!! 👍🏼 R.I.P. Niki
Nice bit of Heel toe!!! love your energy in these vids!!
Just the music already deserves a thumbs up! 80s synth for the win :D
oooo that's where lauda lost his ears , don't wanna lose mine - Jeremy Clarkson , 2004
The kink at 5:48 was actually the place where the accident of Lauda happened.
The thing was a beast. The rFactor version's a blast, too - very nicely balanced. A great car for the Nordschleife - and the Circuit de Charade as well.
About the understeer... When Lauda had had his first drive in the car, he was asked how it was. "The car is shit" he replied bluntly. "It understeers like crazy". The engineers were told to fix it and a couple of weeks later Lauda improved the laptime by 0.8 seconds (as far as I remember, it's been a while since I saw the video where he told the story).
It is so sad to watch this video today..... #RIPNikiLauda
Fun fact. The flat 12 was superseded by the older DFV cosworth V8 in the Lotus as these allowed for ground effects with large tunnels passing the engine. The flat 12 had the benefits from low centre of gravity and more power. Just one of the thousands of stories about aero being king.
The movie rush did such a good job showing how crazy the 70s f1 cars were at the time
6:21 Le beau talon pointe ! ça régale
I was about to comment to ask you to do this yesterday... a true dream come true bois
Tremendous! I remember doing this in GPL.
I've just driven that car! It's a beast, lovely sound XD
Where did the XD come from
CalasTyphon he already caught the cancer so that explains it
I love your first liners
He crashed in the 1976 one. Not 75.
It would be a shame if the car would be damaged in some way, maybe at the rear
Having known this channel, I instantly liked this video merely by having a glance at the title.
If the "Lauda-immitation" should be done right, it should've be done in a 1976 track-mod with a VERY bumpy pavement and non-forgiving curbs.
However, yet another joy seeing/hearing Jimmy, thx!
Edit: And yes, the Lauda-kink is the left-kink just before Bergwerk. Fundamental historical knowledge ;-D
I like your channel and your videos. I just subscribed. I am a Sim Racer as well. I like watching your funny vids more than watching Netflix or Prime 😜
Wow that thing is such a handful, good job
blistering pace.
Hello =)
Stunning simulator, great lap!!
Niki crashed on the left-hand sweeper just after Ex-Mühle and just before Bergwerk. I always say "This one's for Niki." every time I enter it. Nice lap, though. I use the rFactor 312T add-on, myself. I also built the Tamiya 1:12 kit as a kid.
RIP Niki Lauda you were one of the most inspirational pilots the sport has ever seen
Balls.it's amazing how you keep that beast from off the road
I played around with some of these Formula 1 cars myself and I definitely tried out the Niki's Ferrari. That thing is hard to control.
What a f*cking awesome drive by Gastly!
Lauda in 1976 was driving the 312T2, which was quite different from the 312T. And the track was also different: basically there where two long straights and a wide hairpin, basically where now there is the F1 track.
So, no corner T13.
The RARE flying boi
The Barbecue B O I
Mental how far he has come in less than 3 years
Love watching these videos... Can you maybe do the whole bmw m range from m1 to the latest ones available
When I had gp3 the add on carsets from this era were always cool
Sick driving🔥
This looks wonderful.
"Man-who-drives-at-Nordschleiffe-too-often here!"
Died
Seeing this after hearing that he just passed away.. Rest in peace champion!
Ikr
I absolutely love this car, so beautiful.
That was a hell of a race!
hey Jimmy great Video again, love it. What headphones with the mic attached are you using when your in VR?
Damn this is some serious foot work
Love racing in vr using project cars myself. Looking forward to the pimax 8k. That should be great for sim racing. Right now I’m using the oculus rift. I’m up in my years but I can still hold my own against the younger racers.
Love the commentary of this xD
*Not all accurate
"... Gotta watch these curves, sometimes the downforce works with you and sometimes against you..."
"... Phew... Really need to be careful around this corner, lifting off the gas, the car might start doing naughty things to you..."
*Last one was priceless imo xD*
So cool to watch
*Not an inline twelve
I got that reference :-)
Spoderskrillex Doesn't beat the superior inline twelve rotary ;)
That's the 1960s Batmobile engine in my headcanon.
Nice lap!
Just a quick correction at 4:38 : The Ferrari 312B and 312T used a Flat12 and not a V12 like you mention. Nice video as always :)
Jose, the Ferrari flat 12 was an 180 degrees V12. It wasn't really a boxer engine.
man i LOVE this track. Mens track!
Jimmy can you do a modern GT3 car (brand and model of your own choosing) next?
I'd love to see how they compare to the 962 in terms of lap time.
Those drivers from a bygone era must have had wrists and balls of steel, no assists like today
At low revs, its sounded like the w10 and other modern merc hybrid engines
Can't believe he died today. Rip Niki. A true legend
That Agip logo is so nostalgic for me
"We can use the inside curb here" *nearly gets shuffled off the track*
Great video !! :-D
Simply amazing !
great channel. love the videos, i'm looking for a racing league for pc but can adapt to canadian times. if you can help im all ears. cheers
Your channel is amazing! I think its hard to comment while racing in the sim and not annoy the audience - you‘re doing that very well!
Whats your intro outro song and who produced it? :-)
