Joy was born in Mumbai at Dr.Shirodkar's hospital on 24th Feb 1939 ..
Joy may have lost money in 'Humsaya' more than the financial loss , not achieving his creative ambition is what hurt him the most ...
There was no dearth of wealth for Joy as he was part owner of Filmalya Studios , which our family still owns ...
Joy was a reluctant star and instead would have been happy pursuing a career wherein he could be with his beloved books ...
He was very creative and a wonderful writer ..I am happy to state his diaries are the most valuable possession for my children and me ..
Joy's book collection was enviable ..
Which as per his wishes was donated to a charitable foundation ..

thank you so much for correcting me neelam ji. though am really confused how i wrote Jhansi as his birthplace, as this was a 17-18 year interview which was published in sahara samay (weekly) and a copy of the same was sent to Joy sir. this interview took place at Joy Gallery near lokhandwala circle.
i fully agree with your statement that - "Joy may have lost money in 'Humsaya' more than the financial loss , not achieving his creative ambition is what hurt him the most"...in our conversation i found that he was also hurt with the so called 'ego clash'...

Some how , a Christian teacher misspelt and left the 'Deb' out on his home work copies at Sacred Hearts Boy's School ...
By default Joideb was rechristened to Joy Mukerji for his remaining years to rule the hearts ...
While shooting in Europe , the local press hailed him as the Rock Hudson of India ...
He shot three films there ...
In Japan for his Love in Tokyo , for the locals he was the Handsome Joy San !

Son of one of most illustrious families of Hindi Cinema, Joy Mukherjee was among the most handsome heroes of his time along with Manoj Kumar, Dharmendra, Feroz Khan n Shashi Kapoor. His strike rate of hits was tremendous with Love in Shimla, Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon, Ek Musafir Ek Haseena, Love in Tokyo, Shagird etc. He was one of the luckiest stars whose films were embellished with melodious songs with Rafi Sa'ab n O P Nayyar Sa'ab playing key role in his success. It was only when he turned producer n made wrong choices during Rajesh Khanna's phenomenal phase, his decline started. But then, every actor has his own destiny. I remember him fondly.

हाल ए जाय मुखर्जी आपने सुनाया, सुनाया क्या, दिखाया।जाय मुखर्जी जवानी में सबसे खूबसूरत और बहुत ही प्रभावशाली व्यक्तित्व के धनी थे। उनकी फिल्मों के गीत आज भी सदाबहार एकदम तरोताजा लगते हैं।एक बात मुझे उनकी इतनी अच्छी लगती है, वोह पर्दे पर गानों की लिपसिंक मूवमेंट एकदम रियलास्टीक किया करते थे और एक्सप्रेशंस में मास्टर थे। सायरा बानो जी के साथ साथ हो तुम आवाज हूं मैं,इस गीत में वोह इतने हैंडसम और स्मार्ट लगे हैं।और क्लासिकल गीत होकर भी घुटने के बल बैठकर जो हाव-भाव एक्ट किए थे ऐसा लगता है कि उनको संगीत की बहुत अच्छी जानकारी थी।और इसी गाने के आखरी में अलग-अलग साज बजाने की अदाकारी भी एकदम शानदार 👍 जैसा नामJOY वैसा ही मिजाज। स्माइल क्या कहने।लव इन टोक्यो, शागिर्द फिर वही दिल लाया हूं।इन फिल्मों में गजब के ऊर्जावान और स्फूर्तिवान हीरो लगते थे।आपका शुक्रिया बहुत बहुत जो इनके बारे में महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी हमें सुना दी।।🙏

I am a great fan of Joy Mukherji since 1963..when I was a kid.I have seen all his film right from Love in Simla to Ehsaan..aag aur Daag etc.He was a very very beautiful actor of 1960..69 era.Phir Wohi Dil Laya Hoon is his best film...I have seen in countable times

One of my favorite hero was joy Mukherjee. I remember him as one of my super stars in the early 60s in the Indian hindi movies.

"हमसाया" बहुत अच्छी फ़िल्म है । मैंने १३ साल की उम्र में थियेटर में देखी थी।
बहुत अच्छी जासूसी, बहुत अच्छी कहानी, बहुत अच्छा एक्शन...
बदक़िस्मती से CZcams पर इस फ़िल्म की जो कॉपी उपलब्ध है वह बहुत ही खराब है।
Love in Simla भी बहुत अच्छी फ़िल्म थी।

While you have mentioned all of his cousins, uncles, brothers etc you have missed out on Rono Mukherjee who directed Tu hi Meri Zindagi a home production which starred Deb Mukherji. Importantly he also composed the film's hit music which is remembered even today. Kindly have an episode on this multi talented personality who seems to have vanished after just this one film.

Krishna Sharma ji ne Sahi Kaha.. Main Joy ke "Humsaya" film 1969 mein Dekhe Bombai Ke Maratha Mandir Mein, Mera Pehla Film tha.. Phir Unka "Sambandh" aur "Ek Bar Muskura Do" College ke Dinon mein ('74) Saheliyon ke sath Dekhe. A very Romantic actor. of his own style..Once I saw him in Juhu Beach...Inspite of the name I think He had no joy in his life..May his soul be in peace.

This is the story of those days when capitalism was a very much controlled affair under Keneysian economics in two third parts of the world ( known as Nehruvian economics in India). What could be its ugly shape and culmination under the pure form of presently prevalent Capitalism is a matter of easy imagination. Jai Sri Ram.

मेरे बचपन के हीरो जाय मुकर्जी थे दूर की आवाज फिर वही दिल लाया हू जिद्दी उनकी बहुत लोक प्रिय मूवी थी हम साया प्लाप होने के बाद भी उन पर भारी कर्ज हो गया लेकिन जाय जी खुद्दार थे किसी का पैसा नही खाया ओर सबको कर्जा चुकाया उस समय की बहुत लोक प्रिय किताब माधुरी में माला ओर शर्मिला की सेट पर लड़ाई साफ शब्दों मे बताया दोनो ने कहा एक दूसरे की चोटी पकड़ कर गुत्तम गुटा हो गई आखिर में शर्मिला जी ने माला की एक नस पकड़ ली ओर सेट पर सबके सामने माला को वैश्या तक कह दिया टिम ने दोनो को अलग कर दिया लेकिन उसके बाद आज 55, साल बाद भी दोनो एक दूसरे से नही बोलते है ये एक सच्ची घटना है
