  • Repairing my Husqvarna R 216T changing transmission belt
    The transmission belt on my Husqvarna R 216T had broken down and needed to be replaced.
    So I started repairing my lawn-mover and managed to change the belt.
    It isn't easy to repair something on the bare ground , but the sunshine and the weather were great so the repair went well.
    Now my Husqvarna lawn mover works again with the new transmission belt and I can once again use it.

    You legend! Perfect video showing every step with clear angles. Saved me a long trip and expense at the store, saved me a migraine, saved me from broken knuckles and saved my marriage. Cheers from Australia

    What a great video. Have just broken the trans belt on my 214tc and searched for a video and came across yours. Really well edited and thorough step by step guide. One of the best I've come across. Thanks for taking the time to post it. Right, time to get the tools and spare belt out.....

      All done. Took about 30mins. One thing I would say is in reference to the tensioning pulley, if you disengage prior to feeding the new belt in/through then there's no difficulty.

      Thank you so much for your appreciation 🥰 I am no expert and learned on the go as I tried myself when I recorded the video but I will have that in mind for the next time I need to replace it again 😀👍 probably will take so long time so I forget about it 😅
      But thanks for the tip anyway 😊

    Thank you so much for posting this, as others have said I was unable to find any worthwhile detail from Husqvarna nor anywhere else, with this I was able to complete the task and get mowing again fast. A lifesaver!

    Hiya from down the other side of the world, New Zealand. Now I would suggest that you leave those side covers off that you took off as they keep all that cut grass trapped in the frame and it builds up so much that your belts start to get jammed up eventually breaking. That grass needs to be removed on a regular basis or you will forever have problems. The same goes with under the cover for the transmission. The grass build up on the transmission will cause it to overheat and stop the mower from driving. I have a R16 C mower with a combi 94 deck that I brought a month ago. It has done 500 hours and runs like the day it was built. It is good when you can do your own repairs and save a lot of money by doing so. I do all my own maintenance and enjoy it. Okay, cheers from John in New Zealand.

      Hello there and thank you so much for the great tip.👍 I'm sorry for not answer you earlier, but I wanted to do it properly with my computer but of course I forgot about it.
      Anyway, yeah I would really like to try that out. I have already changed every belt due to thick grass and overheated belts burning up for me and yeah it has always been full of grass behind the Covers so why not try it out at least. I have at least managed to figure out that if you mow the higher grass, it is good to remove the cover for fine cutting under the cutting deck, of course after a belt had broken that is 😄
      Hehe yeah, If I had to hehe yeah if I had to send it in for repair every time something broke I'd be broke myself by now 😇
      Thank you so much for your comment and hope to see you soon again😀👋

    Thanks so much for posting this video, it made the process of changing my belt very straightforward. I actually needed to change the drive belt to the deck but your video covered everything I needed to know. I can only echo the other posts on how much it helped..! Cheers from Scotland!

    Wow - thank you so much for this brilliant video! It saved me hours, and probably £100+ in parts and labour. Made the job fun, and the video was even funny!
    I found two things:
    - As others have said, turning the steering to full deflection makes access to the rear covers much easier.
    - Make sure the cutting deck is raised (drive disengaged) and then the rear tensioner is easy to deal with.
    Thanks!!

  • @andreasl.8697
    @andreasl.8697 Před 3 měsíci +1

    If you turn the steering all the way to the left and then all the way to the right, you can easily reach the rear screws of the V-belt cover. Even with a longer screwdriver ;)

    Hello from Germany. Tomorrow I have to do this with my 316. I did it 4 years ago but I have to replace all of the belts and the seat sensor(maybe). Now I can make a "battle plan" and don´t have to stand up 136 times for new tools. Thx

      @Swedishcountrylife1  Před 11 měsíci

      That sounds great 😀👍 At least you have 2 belts you can do for my video then 😄
      If you have to change the back one, it's a little more tricky, I remember that I had to take away a fan to do it, perhaps I should make more "how to do" videos 🤔 it seems to be much appreciated 😊

    To give yourself a better ride lower the tyre pressures, slight harder to steer but saves server back ache, leaving the belt covers off also stops grass fires and aids cleaning.

    Hi, a piece of advice the cutting deck should not be lowered with the engine at maximum revs but with 3/4 throttle otherwise the belt will wear out prematurely. I have a r316tx awd with 37 hours on it and it's still new. Also avoid mowing the grass that is too wet. Congratulations on the very useful video. Hello from Italy

    A huge thank you for this excellent video! I wonder whether you actually needed to undo that front bolt that holds the front belt or whether you could have slipped the new belt over the front belt? I’m going to try that anyway. Thanks again.

    I broke the same belt on my R216 last week.... it merely done 26 hours on the clock.....grrrrrrrr
    Lucky I found your video; I might just give a shot to replace the belt myself... If I can find a replacement belt.
    Where can I find the part number for that ?? Thanks in advance.

    • @Swedishcountrylife1
      @Swedishcountrylife1  Před rokem +2

      If you do it yourself all I can recommend is that you do it on solid ground and where it doesn't rain because it might take a few hours 😄But of course you should try it out if you want to, if you make it then you save a lot in repair cost. I have managed to break all my belts, even the one in the cutting deck 😇this one twice.
      You can find the this belt under the transmission part diagram nr 2 follow this link for an example.
      www.jackssmallengines.com/jacks-parts-lookup/manufacturer/husqvarna/riders/r216-967291101-2015/transmission-2
      And there its named " BELT # 589 53 04 -01 " and that is the same number as mine that I use in the video.
      I don't know where you live, I have Husqvarna spare part stores in manly every big town here in Sweden.
      But if you visit www.husqvarna.com and look up dealer of Husqvarna in your country you probably will find a bunch of them, otherwise you probably could find them on eBay to I think if you search for "transmission belt Husqvarna 216" ☺

      @@Swedishcountrylife1 Thank you for your reply..I'm in Melbourne Australia. Yes !! Over the other side of the word !!.. he he he..
      Isn't the internet great ?? I've tried the Husqvarna web site in Australia and all the info there is to direct me to a service dealer.
      I can do the belt change in my garage; only issue will be my boss (wife) nagging me for parking the car on the driveway.. ha ha
      Thank you for that part number; as I found numerous other part numbers on eBay that is not the same.
      Now..All I need is to find the correct belt plus clean up all those socket sets Torx / Hex /Allen key that I bought over the years..

      Hehe, well lets see in a few weeks she will probably nag at you that the grass is tall instead 😅 so I think she could
      Keep up with the car parked in the driveway for a few hours 😏
      When I searched Husqvarna Melbourne, Australia, I found a couple of interesting stores and the main ones that stand out were at these address
      "Husqvarna Unit 43/42 McArthurs Rd, Altona North VIC 3025, Australia"
      And the
      "Speedie Mover Service 115 Wheatsheaf Rd, Glenroy, VIC 3046, Australia"
      those I would probably look up first.
      Try to give them a call and see what they say. If they are too far away, ask if they can recommend a store closer to you.
      Hehe, I know how it is with the tools 😇 At least I know exactly where I have mine because I placed everything on top on the workbench 🤣

      @@Swedishcountrylife1 Thank you for looking up the dealership around me... the closest dealer is ~50km+ from my home..I live around the outer fringe of Melbourne in Victoria..
      I did ring the dealer up and they will sell the belt to me for $110 AUD (~$70 Euro), most of the dealers wants to do the service instead as they want to make more money; understandably so as businesses are really tough these days. Found an eBay dealer that will sell the complete belt sets for ~$100 AUD including shipping (4 belts including the geared engine belt, deck bely and the long center belt)..a much better deal but they are in England....sigh.. it will be a long wait.
      I have presented all options to the boss awaiting a decision... happy wife..happy life.🤣
