      I quit agree, once hollywood get their grubby hands on things they distort the truth, and make a mess of it, and got the cheek to charge us for the rubbish.

    I am also descended from William Tell. My grandfather Jörg Martinus Dällenbach emigrated from Lauperswil to New York in the 1700s. Our family who are descended from him have geneology books which list every descendant of his who are living in the US and Canada. The legend of Tell is well known in our family, the story being passed on from generation to generation. We have always been proud of our part in Swiss history!

      He's my ancestor, too! Also on my father's side. My maiden name is Tillapaugh, and I am descended from Jörg Martinus Dällenbach who came here in the 1700s. I wonder, do you have a copy of the Dällenbach genealogy books? My father passed his down to me before he passed away in March, 2020. I've been wondering if or when there'll be a newer edition. The newest one I have ends in the 1980s. I am listed in it, which my kids think is really cool. Good to meet a cousin!!

      @@cherietillapaughhott1012 Hi Cherie! I do not have a copy of the Dallenbach genealogy book but will get one at some point. I think they're available on line as a PDF, not sure though. My many great grandfather was an ordained Luther minister educated at Martin Luther university Halle-Wittenberg, Germany who was sent to an upstate NY German & Dutch settlement to be their minister in the middle 1700s. He married a girl there who's last name was Wagner and a Swiss descendant of Willhelm Tell. I guess the name changed through time from Tell to Tellenbach to Dallenbach, or something like that. Fascinating to learn that stories taught to me by my teachers in grade school of William Tell shooting and apple off his son's head turned out to be my ancestor !! Great to know of a cousin that is also related to him and more directly than I am!

      @@Vikingman2024 Hi William! It actually changed from Tell or Dell or Däll eventually to either Dällenbach or Dällenburg, depending on whether the Tell descendant lived in the mountains or near the stream. "Burg" is a spelling variation of the word for mountain, and "Bach" is a spelling variation of the word for "brook" or "stream." And "baugh" and "paugh" is an Americanized version. If you are a Tell, I'm guessing that you're descended from a Dell or Dall or Doll. My maiden name has so many spelling variations, and that's only from one line of descendants, all of those from Jorg Martin's line! He had at least 2 brothers that I know of back in Lauperswil, all in the mid to late 1600s, I imagine going back another 300plus years directly to Wilhelm or someone in his family is where your name comes from. Our family story is that we are Swiss German, from the family of Tells, and that our name means "the Tells by the brook." I'm still working on trying to find the middle connections, if any, between my grandfather Nicholas (Jörg's father who didn't make it to the New World, and who lived and died in Lauperswil) and William Tell or someone else in the Tell family of the late 1200s and early 1300s near the town of Aldorf, which is the location of the events in the legend. Hopefully I'll have answers eventually!!
      Good luck to you!!

      @cherietillapaughhott1012 Před rokem +1

      Also, Tillapaugh is the Americanized spelling of Dällenbach, and was changed as a way to show American loyalty as opposed to British loyalty, or so the story goes! My dad told me that the T and D are interchangeable, as are the P and B, and the -ach and -augh.

My father moved our family to Denver in 1984 when he answered the Call and founded the Denver Street School, a Christian school for the at-risk youth of Denver. There are now close to 50 schools across the country now. Unfortunately, my father passed away and received his crown on March 16, 2020. It's good to not only meet a cousin, but one who is also a believer!

“A man who would bow to nobody but God” It may not have anything to do with what “American Values” have come to represent today, but to imply that the original intent of these ideals have nothing to do with each other is historically ignorant.

    • @Tarlanc01
      @Tarlanc01  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh, I think, there has been a slight misunderstanding. Since "American Values"(tm) are the tragically misshapen love child of protestant work ethics and colonial racism, I just believe that anyone assinging such a connotation to events centuries before protestantism and British colonies must be dangeously ignorant. But I am sure there is a country song completely backing your interpretation of history. So I will let this one slide.
