Gunner fans love to talk about winning the league at white hart lane or even old trafford which is spectacular, but to win it at ANFIELD? At the peak of their powers? Under these circumstances? Really crazy

Nah, Liverpool had Hillsborough 5 weeks earlier. Players were absolutely fucked. They had cup final on a Saturday, went to extra time. Then had to play West ham on a Tuesday then this game on a Friday. That is fucking brutal.

To be fair it’s an age thing imo. Anfield was bigger because of both could win the title but as you know Liverpool only had to match Arsenal where as Arsenal had to win by at least 2 clear. This at fortress Anfield where *NOBODY* won 0-2. Arsenal kept their nerve especially Michael….. Thanks *Arsenal*

@@mazza8576 the hammers got brushed aside with ease by Liverpool, they never got out of 1st gear. Arsenal had to go and get 2 goals v Liverpool a fantastic team, in fact“the best” for many years. Everyone apart from Arsenal wanted Liverpool to win for their fans because of the Hillsborough disaster. Liverpool settled for a 0-1 loss which most would considering that would have been enough but Arsenal wanted their second to get that title after 18yrs…

I'm an Arsenal fan since 2005 (even being Brazilian) and I'm reading that pitch fever book. I have to admit I got some tear in my eyes reading the part talking about this game. I had to watch this to feel at least a little of this championship. What a game, what a team an what a club! I'll be a gooner forever!

I remember popping the TV on to watch this game live. Knowing that Liverpool were going to win the title. So I was just eating my dinner as it progressed. (I dislike Liverpool more than I like my own team. As a Sheffield Wednesday supporter I'd sooner see Sheffield United win the title for the next 100 years if it stopped Liverpool winning the title once.)
Last few minutes and it was edge of the seat stuff. Thomas knocked that goal in. And I was standing at the bar of my local pub (only 100 paces away from my own front door to be fair) ordering a pint within about 30 seconds of the goal. I don't think I stopped celebrating for about a week.

      Nothing like it.
Liverpool were the best team on earth at the time, and they had the kop, the biggest football stand on earth.
Liverpool back then were totally dominating english football.
What arsenal did that night and season, was so special, they even turned it into a movie, fever pitch.
What man city did was beat a dying team in man utd, and man city had all the money in the world.
Arsenal in 1989, had average players and virtually brought no players, most were local lads. Thats the reason 1989 what arsenal did, was made into a film.
It was the first time anfield, the home of liverpool had dark clouds over it, liverpool totally dominated football back then.
The 1989 finish by arsenal, was the best finish ever to a league anywhere. 1st playing second, and arsenal had to win by 2 clear goals at anfield, the fortress of the best team on planet earth, in front of the best fans on planet earth, ie the liverpool kop.
First time anfield had a dark cloud over it.

Hahaha, should never have been played. So its ok for Liverpool to play an extended cup final on the sunday, away to west ham on wednesday and arsenal on FRIDAY. No chance Liverpool also had many commitments following Hillsborough. This of course whilst arsenal had ten days to rest. Had Liverpool been allowed to rest too, Liverpool would have won the title.
