    Wonder how long until kidnappers, carjackers, robbers, etc. start using emergency plugs to prevent people from escaping if it hasn't happened already. I don't like the idea of my vehicle having an easily accessible external disable feature.

      Likely it won't be long before car thieves pirate these devices. Run up, plug it in, and it instantly removes your greatest defense tool which is the ability to move your vehicle.

      @@Michael-1337 Faking being an L1 EVSE is easy, only need a few resistors and an oscillator circuit to generate the necessary signals and loads on pilot pins, maybe $5 in parts for a one-off circuit build. The most expensive DIY component by far will be the plug itself, maybe buy the connectors from scrappers who steal fast-charger cables. Then again, you only need ground, PP and CP. Find appropriately sized metal pins, 3D-print something to hold them in place and you are ready to go.
      Immobilizer plugs are being sold to first responders for nearly $1000 a pop but I bet a Chinese manufacturer will make functional equivalents for ~$10 soon enough.

    So all the missing charger cables is not theft because the driver drove off with the charger attached.

    Hello, I'm a technical trainer and I have to say that the communication around the emergency plug is, at least, very sketchy. I've got a lot of firefighters in training about HEV security that are mixing things up: The emergency plug put (sometimes) the vehicle in "parking" BUT it doesn't turn it off. As we can see in your video, the "Ready" is still on, so HV is still ON.
    When i hear the firefighters telling me: "the emergency plug turns off the vehicle they are thinking about motion AND HV! It's really important for them to understand that it's only keeping the vehicle to move but doesn't do anything guaranteed about HV.
    As an example, here in EU, we've got a lot of EV without a Parking mode (Dacia Spring has got only D N R and an handbrake, so the emergency plug cannot pull the handbrake by itself). thanks for your videos, great work!

      @StacheDTraining  Před měsícem +1

      You are correct. This absolutely does not turn off the high voltage. I discuss that in my other video, where I do a deep dive into the emergency plug.

    I would bet there is a software developer somewhere that went "oh qwap" at the 60 seconds delay. Sounds like some debug setting may have been left enabled. Purely a guess.

    • @tonysheerness2427
      @tonysheerness2427 Před měsícem +1

      Maybe the hardware is not capable of software control.

    • @StacheDTraining
      @StacheDTraining  Před měsícem +2

      Since there is a 60 second delay, it should be an easy thing to change in a software update.

    $20 says carjackers are going to start using these to take over vehicles with no means of escape.
    It also unlocks the doors in most cases.

    • @akshonclip
      @akshonclip Před měsícem

      @@Green__one A lot of cars unlock the doors when put in park. If this is plugged in and the vehicle automatically shifts to park, unlocking the doors is probably an artifact of that programming.

    Seems odd to expect the software and computers to work properly after a crash?

  • @Crazypostman
    @Crazypostman Před měsícem +2

    Seems very dangerous to the occupants for anybody to just be able to run up to a car and instantly disable it allowing for situations where you can't get away if you're under duress or attack for some reason. This is going to be in every carjackers case. This product just seems unnecessary. Other vehicles aren't required to have an exterior emergency shut off why should EVs. Leave The emergency shut off under the hood or in less accessible areas, firemen still know where they are and exactly where to cut to disable the car.

    A nice way to charge the vehicles with 🌞 while in motion, with rear access to charge port 🤔. I need a emergency plug delete kit, to allow solar charging, to reduce my range anxiety stress😂❤️👍

    The flap is motorized, and every modal has to make it different and fancy. Good luck with that.
    And don't touch the bodywork: it could be energised.

    i wonder how many criminals are working on making or getting one of these plugs? Disabling the vehicle easily from the outside would leave you vulnerable to them.

    What th is "Emergency plug" in first place ?
    That is EV vulnerability, unauthorized access, an exploit device, that could be used for malicious activity.

      It is essentially a charging cable head that doesn't charge. EVs aren't allowed to move when plugged into a cable, doing that would pull the cable out and possibly damage the car or the charger. Even if the cable isn't doing any charging, because the vehicle is at full charge, you still don't want the vehicle to drive with that cable attached.
      It does not hack the EV or access anything it shouldn't, it simply uses an existing safety feature for safety purposes.

    Seems to me that any time anything is inserted into the receptacle the vehicle should immediately shift to park.

      @@SolAce-nw2hf I actually googled this and there is a CZcamsr who advertised a breakaway adapter for teslas for this very reason. So if you need to drive away in an emergency while you are connected it will break away from the charging cord. I guess it’s marketed to people afraid of being ambushed in their cars waiting to charge in remote desolate areas. Yet another problem with EVs.

    • @StacheDTraining
      @StacheDTraining  Před měsícem +2

      Unfortunately most newer vehicles use electronic buttons for the parking brake so there is no positive feedback for first responders to know it worked correctly. It also requires us to enter the vehicle to engage.
