It is a largely balanced synopsis till " UN resolutions " of 1948 . However , there are equally significant bilateral agreements between two nations viz. TASHKENT DECLARATION and SHIMLA AGREEMENT and LAHORE DECLARATION , which have very important bearings , diplomatic as well as legal on Kashmir issue , and therefore without incorporating those in matrix of "Kashmir problem" , a peaceful settlement is very remote . Last but not the least , India never accepts two nation theory by default unlike Pakistan , for which the two nation theory is reason to exist . Partition was largely imposed on India .
Had pakistan not attacked kashmir in 1947 in the garb of tribals entire jammu kashmir would have been an independent country today . Pakistan is responsible for all the sufferings of kashmiris till this date .
1. Azad Kashmir means a buffer state like Nepal. which will have no easy access to outside world. So it will remain under developed forever.
2. Pakistan has no good relation with all neighbour. Iran and Afganistan are muslim countries. That means there is something wrong with Pakistan.

Nehru was arrest by Kashmiri forces in 47 at Kohala for entering Kashmir without permission and Mahraja had no intention to join India. He was forced by tribal invasion backed by Pakistan to join India and this huge chaos was created.

The peacemaking was tried to be made among the two countries in 1999 and right after that Kargil happened. As a Pakistani, it is saddening to admit that establishing relations with India is against the interests of our own establishment. They need to make a fuss of security threats so the military spending can be maximized out of it. If India becomes our friend، why would we fund our military as heavily as we are doing now. It's hard to accept but Pakistan 's army are the culprits here. I am addressing the issue whether both countries can be friends or not. On the matter or Kashmir, the matter is crucial for both countries die to the flow of rivers passing through Kashmir whoever has Kashmir will have the control over the waters. That tussle can't be cooler until both countries come on the same page, make some agreements and strictly adhere to them.. peace out!!!

We know what happened when pm of India like Vajpayee and Modi came to pakistan. The power to decide whether to remain independent / chose between India and Pakistan was under the British Parliament's Lapse of Paramountcy Act was given to the Ruler and not to the public. Pakistan should have challenged this Act in the House of Lords - Gilgit , Hunza , Baltistan , Mirpur , Muzzafarabad and also Chitral were parts of erstwhile Riyasat of Jammu and Kashmir which, in 1947 , legally acceded, in its entirety to India. Riyasats like Jammu and Kashmir , Kalat , Bahawalpur , Umerkot etc were covered under the Lapse of Paramountcy Act of British Parliament. We cannot be selective. Pakistan has absolutely no claim ,whether legal or moral , on even an inch sq of territory of the erstwhile Riyasat of Jammu and Kashmir
What you are suggesting is practically impossible. The population of Kashmir during 1947 is not same so India believes Pakistan allowed outsiders to settle in Kashmir tilting the balance of population to its favour and Pakistan will never remove its army from Kashmir, so India and Pakistan will never agree on Plebiscite no matter what. Secondly after 1972 Shimla agreement its been agreed by both countries Kashmir is a bilateral issue, so no third party will be allowed to intervene in it. So no USA or UN can intervene in it. The only possible solution that can work is Keep what part of Kashmir both countries have and make LOC as International border. With agreement that Kashmiris on both side have access to travel and trade on both sides without interference, they can have their local govt on both sides and can choose to stay or leave on the other side. So they should be allowed leave or take citizenship of either country with time limit of few years. But there is another problem to the peace of Kashmir, the radicals in Pakistan won't accept peace as they get lots of funds by the dispute and militancy. What will Pak army do if there is peace in Kashmir, no one in Pakistan will buy there narrative of security state, and the army doesn't want to lose its power and wealth that it enjoys at the cost of poor Civilians.
Pakistan's army should get more and more budgets for Kashmir jihaad. Atleast more 20-30 billion dollars per year .

You want bilateral talks. But what about terrorism. So many decades past. Whenever bilateral talks were expected, there terrorist activities took place. Secondly you said about sardar Patel that he was not interested in Kashmir which is absolutely wrong. Why he should not be interested in Kashmir when he was interested in Junagadh and Hyderabad . Neharu was interested in posting Shaikh Abdula as PM or in important role. Neharu was against Raja Harising as once he had arrested Neharu. ...you should rectify your views in this case.

And on your suggestion I would like to counter as
1. Open border is a terrible idea for India as terrorist attacks will increase significantly like Parliament attack, Mumbai Attack, Pulwama attack which happened before in India and which is a common occurrence in Pakistan even to this day. It will be like digging our own grave.
2. Trade with Pakistan will not be very beneficial for India as purchasing power of Pakistani people are very less. Even before trade was stopped India's export to Pakistan was of $2 billion which is very less compared to India's overall export of $600+ billion.
3. J&K can never remain Independent. Even if India vacates it Pakistan or China will occupy it.
So, these are too much of a risk for India with very little to gain. Even if India considers these Pakistan cannot be trusted because govt says one thing and the army does another. Every time India tried to normalise ties it got terrorist attacks in return.
Only sensible thing to do is Pakistan vacate POK, as entire Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India as the erstwhile king Hari Singh signed instrument of accession and ceded Jammu& Kashmir with India.
He did not mention anything about the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits. Nehru wanted Kashmir because he was a Kashmiri. And he also forgot to mention that Raja Hari Singh tilted to Nehru when he saw the barbaric acts of Islamists and those vandals getting closer to his throne.

1. Some part of POK was gifted to china by pakistan which is known as saksham valley. So will china give back that?
2. Demography is totally changed.
So from indian point of view how india can trust that after making entire j&k an independant country pakistan or china will not occupy it? It already happened in 1947 otherwise it was an independant country.
