Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. Based on a true story, the film focuses on the Alabama’s commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips (two-time Academy Award®-winner Tom Hanks, Best Actor, 1993, Philadelphia; Best Actor, 1994, Forrest Gump), and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), who takes him hostage. The two men are set on an unstoppable collision course when Muse and his crew target Phillips’ unarmed ship; in the ensuing standoff, both men will find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control.

Am I the only one who’s never seen this movie? But somehow I keep watching all these clips lol
Same here... I guess I gotta watch this movie
The movie is nowhere near the real story
😁
The algorithm has brought us together, brother.
Yep, just popped up a few days ago and I fell for it! Haha

Blows my mind that there wasn't a single gun on board for the crew to defend themselves with..
Had to do with Maritime law, having weapons onboard means they have to deal with all the red tape of moving weapons from country to country, then paying to have a weapons handler on ship, train the crew in some level of handling to prevent accidents etc. In short it was to save money. However that just opened the market for merc groups to get highered as security consultants as acts of piracy went up and the shipping companies needed to security (well they went way overboard with it as always). Things have changed since this incident and others like it but its not a perfect system.
@@MikeJones-qn1gz "well they went way overboard with it as always" Its better to have a security that lights up any approaching pirate boats than not having a gun at all.
@@MikeJones-qn1gz Life is NOT a movie, in real life, the only good pirate is a DEAD pirate.
Blows my mind that people take movies too seriously..
Sailors aren't marines. The pirates already had assault rifles and RPGs at the time and the militias and warlords involved heavy machine guns and light artillery. It would have been a blood bath to arm the civilians instead of having the allied military mission. The international response to the piracy boom in the region was appropriate and effective. That international inaction and some violations of international law was part of leading to it is another story.
Home alone?! Glass, iron on a rope, heated door handles🤣

yea he nice why him
Poor? You call an armed terrorist who kidnaps unarmed people poor? Why don’t you join them if you have empathy for them?
@@petekdemircioglu ok ok "rich bilal"

Leider sehr realistisch dieser Film. Ich bin viele jahre zur See gerfahren und kann das bestätigen.
Was?
I would of kept messing with the pirates. Taken them all out one by one.
ok Frank
Suuuuure
you rush a gun, run from knives. 3 guys rushing from behind, or the side, the skinny wouldn't be able to even hold his gun anymore. Easy to say, facing death at the hands of a skinny is a rough idea

If I was president I would make ships have squads with guns ready for battle with somali pirates!
This movie represents a classic reason why guns are necessary and rules/laws against gun ownership makes people defenseless. Guns protect.
yes sir!!
Necessary for a cargo ship off the coast of somalia yes not for your average person. Protect yourself from what hahah youre safe
@@charlesharris406 I don't know perhaps, and this may be a crazy concept to grasp but... a bad guy?
@@charlesharris406 clearly you are a spoiled brat who sits behind a computer
@@charlesharris406 ever heard of rapists dipshit? Burglars? Murderers? Literally any other kind of violent crime?
I have a permit for my gun, and i will only use it to defend myself and my family. If they banned guns, they would only take them away from good people. The bad people wont have to give theirs up.
