Probably the biggest advantage of the H6 is the fact that it is smaller and they offer a water resistant case with a lot of attachment options. The H6 is much more ideal for attaching to your belt while using a shotgun mic on a boom.
Looks nice!
I'm definitely going the Zoom route!
I’ve been using the H6 for my daily podcast since 2017 and it’s great. No need to change that, but if I had to buy a new recorder/audio interface in 2020 that’d be the H8. Thanks 🙏🏻
Would you really need 6 channels or you'd just go with the newest regardless if it's an overkill for your work flow?
@@costinvaly1 They have updated the preamps. The noise levels are improved. If you were starting from scratch like me, the extra $70 is worth it for what you get. The H6 is an awesome audio recorder and the shape is a lot better. How ever the H8 has better preamps, the 4 podcast pads are great and you can plug in a bass and guitar directly in it. Also, there are built-in chain effects. So you are getting a lot for the $70. I am just starting out, so I paid the extra $70 for the H8. Another thing to think about is the new 2.0 version of the modules. I have no idea if they will come out with more modules than what they have already announced. However, if they do come out with a new cool module, you can bet it will be version 2.0. To me the extra money is worth it.
@@musikone1780 actually I've heard the opposite, that that they're using the same preamps but only more of them in the same pack. Only the F (6) series has better preamps which is significantly more expensive. Also from a product marketing/engineering it wouldn't make sense to give someone better preamps AND more inputs for a not that big of a price difference. I come from the pro audio world and audio interfaces or preamps would never have a small price difference if both the quality and inputs number would be both increased. Also the manufacturing process would be way more complicated to offer different types of qualities / preamps in different products of the same series especially in between H5 - H8.
I’ve used it for music for awhile now....Zoom makes great audio recorders!
cool video mate. quick question... to engage the 'pads". (0 to -20 db) do they have to be move towards the " level knob" that functions with the specific XLR... can't find that answer any where! lol... even at B&H NY they didn't know.... ok thanks!
Hi everybody! I have few questions about this device. 1. Can I use it as mixer for playing live music, does it have real time effects such as reverb, delay. 2.Does it have 2 or 4 outputs. In Audio card Mode does it have separate stereo output for monitoring (cue) like on normal sound cards like zoom u44.
3. What is the delay time in Ai Mode. (ms)?
I have already zoom r24, h4n, u44. And I am dreaming I have this 3 devices in one.) easy to carry Ai, mixer and recorder. But zoom have not made it yet. I am looking now on rme or motu ultralite.
Love your explanation
You can ALSO power H6 via mini USB port (pack or mains) and alter line-out level. You imply near the end that you get 10 ports for the additional money instead of six. True, but only if you buy the additional attachment.
Anyone know whether the attachments are inter-changeable between the two?
Thanks for the vid.
The H6 uses the first version of the capsules and the H8 uses version 2. I don't believe the new 4 banger capsule will work on the H6. However all older capsules will work on the H8.
The H8 is now only like 20-30 bucks more than H6 depending on where you get it. I probably will go for H8.
The ONLY ONE to do an H6 vs the H8!!!
Receiving INSTANT subscribe!!! THANK YOU!
How well would this record noise when recording outdoors? I need to document/record noise that is produced by an HVAC (Air Conditioner) while it is running. I tried to record the noise with my phone, but the recording is not clear and the recording does not sound like when you hear the noise in person. Should a mic be used with this recorder to capture the noise? If yes, which mic is recommended?
Thank you
Interesting discussion
I bought one of these soon to come, but I'm not exactly sure which 128G SD card is appropriate.
Could you tell me what it is? thanks
We have two! this is an amazing fix!
Which do you like better?
I know it might sound like a silly question, but we we like to record a small assemble of brass. We are (very) loud. We will mainly rely on the capsule but we like the option of having more features. The price between this 2 it is about the same we we live. So, should we get something like the H5 with some good capsule (in the end about the same price as the H8 with the same capsule)? Or maybe sine it is all at the same price should we just get the H8?
Hey! what'd you end up doing?
dear .. does all the h6 accessories work with the h8 recorder ?
Definitely getting one of these for our podcast
sir can we connect our 3.5 mm aux speaker to it so that we can hear our recording from speaker ?? and where to connect it?
I’m getting the H8 for my fight companion type podcast! Would to have 6 people on talking about the fights
Does it audio interface only works with IOS or either with Windows?
my guitar doesn't have a pickup, how can I use it with this thing H8?!
Can you add a track on top of a prerecorded track? Can I add vocals on a prerecorded track?
The USB port on the H6 can also be used for connecting a powerbank, and as an line out to a computer. And the H6 also has a 3.5mm line out.
this might sound like a stupid question(s) but:
1.Can you record instruments into the H6 /8 and at the same time listen to the instrument (if they are electronic)
2. Can you overdub
3: Does it all record as separate tracks to export into your daw
4. Can you skip to a certain point in the track to add a part or do you have relisten to the whole recording first
I'm going to watch a good video~ Thank you~!
Good video, I don't know if it was just me but the video seemed a bit too quiet. I was listening on my iphone at almost max volume and an ad came up and scared the shit out of me it was so much louder
This is good detailed video
How does mixpre 6 ii compare with H6?
Cool do they have other capsules
32bit floating point operation is a must have spec, no audio peaking and recoverable low levels too.
١
Actually it is 200$ cheaper than Zoom F6.
32Bit floating point is an advantage only in very certain occasions , when you do not have the control of the recorded theme.
Zoom h8 has Almost Double ! the number of XLR inputs.
6 different Very-Very special mics for extremely special situations.
Way less power hungry.
Way lighter for gimbal use.
I can go on forever. :)
@@HollywoodweddingfilmsGREECE please do! The F6 32 float is the genie in bottle, that’s been in a barn and bolted
@@HollywoodweddingfilmsGREECE Do you know if they upgraded the pre-amps in the H8 compared to the H6?
@@musikone1780 Yes they did.
They are on a whole new level.
They have a noise floor of -70db ...
The Zoom H6 has pre-amps with a noise floor of -57db or something....
Would you recommend using H2N or H5 for recording practice using a grand piano?
If single instrument is recorded then you can also use H1
How long is the battery life.
Does anyone with an H8 have a problem with the XLR arrangement on the enclosure? I would think having them point in all different directions would be very impractical, especially in a gear bag (probably impossible with a gear bag). Curious to hear any reports that it worked well! I have an H6 and wonder if it's worth upgrading.
Does the wireless remote adapter come with the H8 as an accessory?
I'm not a fan of the design of the H8, especially since you cannot fit it in a case. I also like the build quality of the H6 better, and the bootup time is instant.
I feel the H6 has a more practical design.
New to this: For a podcast of 6 guests or more.. would each person have their own trak? (Individual track)
Yes
Your audio is amazing! Do you have you mic turning inside the collar of your shirt?
Yeah he does
for DSLR video on the field and on the move te H6 is great and better. Size matter. But if I had a pod cast or need for music recording I will go for the H8 for sure.
Which would you recommend if you had to pick one? Plus mini vs micro usb which tends to break faster
I've watched about ten videos on this topic and they all say the same things. We know what the 5vinput is for and how many xlr there are. Does anyone know a video where this machine is tested for real?
YUes, but... Same sound quality? Thank you!
Hi GAK, is there any difference in the quality/sound of the H6 vs H8 as they use the same default capsul. Also, did you notice if the battery life likely to be the same as well given the larger touch screen of the H8?
@@cameronsky7575 Some reviews are sorely lacking in objective detail.
hey! thanks for the video. really helpful. I have a question though. Are H6 capsules compatible with H8?
Yes 👌
i was waiting for a comparisson? all u did was talk about h8, i wanted to know difference, also can u record straight to mac from h6, like h8 does
99ReasonsY you can
At 01:47 you say it comes with an attachment that brings the unit up to 10 inputs. Just wanted to point out that it does NOT come with this... what you're talking about is the OPTIONAL attachment, the EXH-8.
You are correct. My mistake. Slip of the tongue whilst rambling :))
Hey PianoManChuck. Sorry I missed you at NAMM last year. do you know when the EXH-8 will be available? Love your channel. Keep up the great work.
@@musikone1780 You mean earlier this year (January 2020). I'm told the EXH-8 will be out early 2021.
@@PianoManChuck Yes, earlier this year. I guess we have to wait another year for the next NAMM.
Thank you. You do not seem to be much convinced with H 8. Also, you could do one slide to just list 3 difference between the two products. What I got was 1. 2 extra inputs 2. direct connect to computer 3. ability to put power bank and 4th one probably would be a touch screen. Unless I missed out or understood wrong. Thank you anyway. It was informative.
Are you able to plug in a keyboard or synth into these?
Yes just plug into an input
Wich one is better
why do all of these damn things have to be powered by AA batteries!
its can powered by cable
You can use a cable to power these recorders but AA batteries are easy to find, esay to carry and you can change then pretty fast. I don't want to mess up a recording because I run out of some specific kind of battery in the middle of the forest or something like that lol
Time to upgrade from my Zoom h4n
What’s a haich?
which one is best for indie film interviews and sound
I've got one and am returning it for an F6. I thought I would be satisfied and save myself a few bucks. Oh well.
I had it in my hands but it feels cheap of poor quality the plastic is very light I prefer the H6 with its limitations
Right now am using h6 but the noise is irritating me a lot I don't know if this h8 can control noise than h6. I love h6 it's very easy to handle
Oh was considering buying the h6, did u find a solution? I think there are feathered caps.. not sure tho
H8 Power Cord isnt Type C!? what are they smoking...
I think they need more headphone imports to match the 6 XLR imports
They have a product for that now.
It’s cheap but more directed toward the podcast creator market.
Thank you for reading the marketing material on camera.
When I bought few years ago the H6 I was disappointed that it can't record guitar direct. I was sure it can bcz the input seemed to fit BUT it isn't actually an instrument input on the H6...
On the H8 I read that now it is an instrument input so u can record guitars directly - just for this upgrade the H8 is much much better than the H6...
If I buy a XLR to TRS adapter, will I be able to record more than two guitars on the H8?
Hey sorry dude but just because it looks like a guitar input doesn't mean it is- many devices with 1/4" inputs aren't able to accept guitars- ones that can are often the exception (besides sound interfaces which often can). So it's not really that the H6 is "missing" this feature, it's just not really for that. To plug a guitar into most devices that aren't guitar amps you need a DI box. I guess the H8 has that built in.
Lemme get that h6 good sir? Lol
I have an H1n & the H8.. h1n is great when you just need something recording that's better than your on cam audio..
But the H8 is a very solid recorder..
And the small amount more $ is why I went with the H8(HATE) instead of H6.. I Got a good deal more functionality for under $100 more..
Good for recording instruments?
@@ashiqueelahi2909 H8 definitely is
Should be garrotted for the number of times he said “haytch”!
"The HEYCH 8 versus the HEYCH 6."
What is a "haich"
lmao
Please don't haich, just apprecihaich 😂
H8'rs gonna H8
Ainters gonna aint
Well it actually makes more sense to pronounce it that way, since that’s the sound H makes.
touch screen make the product live maximum 10 year.its cool but also a weakness point . but h6 will live 30 year
time 2020/01/01
The funktions of H8 is great, but its really ugly and big. I prefera the H6 because its easy to portable.
Micro USB is the worst usb plug ever and very out dated.
Only Type-C
It's only for power and you should have cables lying around for old phones, also USB-C is really a sloppy standard compared to older USB standards.
Mini USB on H6 is better in your opinion? :D
@@NLDSM I'm not saying 1 is better then the other, Fact is that USB-C has no clicking mechanism which makes it fall out of devices more quickly then Micro-USB. Micro-USB on the other hand can only be connected 1 way and usually people are annoyed because they don't get it right the first time. That "problem" is solved with USB-C alright, but to a cost of it falling out of devices quicker after using it for a while. There is a good reason why manufacturors haven't jumped on the USB-C bandwagon yet. When Mini-USB was replaced with Micro-USB everyone changed almost immediatly, why haven't they done so with USB-C? ;-)
@@BjarnedeGraaf Just checked all my USB Type-C devices, all have clicking mechanism, and in my practice I've experience much more problems with micro USB compared to type C including broken cables and connectors, so far no single problem with type C including MacBook, so I have no idea what you are talking about ;)
Aitch!!
no usb c? lame
irritating shape h8
Would you say that you... h8 it?
i don`t like the h8, it didn't look very portable, but think is kind of ugly I now it looks like a spider but not a friendly one, well it have 2 more inputs yei... but only two of them are combo boooh,
Probably I going to use more xlr than trs, but I prefer to have the option,
another reason has almost the same preamps than h5 h6.. probably are the same well the ein is not that good so you have to use a good condenser microphone or have really close to your mouth a dynamic mic or buy a fethead
So for the actual price at least at my country you can get a porta studio or a big mixer, or a digital like x air you going to invest in the fetheads or any othe preamp... I think you can get a recorder with better preamps instead
one more software specs: you can put some fx and mix inside, and edit with the buttons, it has this kind of option since de h4n pro, h6 and now h8 and I don't know anyone who use it, only the demo guys or the reviewers there are better ways to reach that with usualy better results, probably you can make it easy in a tablet or in a smartphone, I had h4n and h6 but in this year we are using directly an umchd interface plugged to a tablet yes it is not a recorder but it works better.
and sincerly wich place and wich situation you will need a more than 4 microphones in a place that you have enough time to conect and position all of them but there is not a electrical power, the only situation that I can imagine is in a movie and they usually get or better devices for that kind of work or the ones with the lowerr cost but with external preamps this is the only place and situation because in presentation or concerts i always get line direct from the mixer so i just need stereo input and in some venues i can go wih my laptop and conect to their mixers via usb
I believe you mean it looks like an ant. This bug has 6 legs and 2 antennae. Spiders have 8 legs.
From what I understand, you can't use the TRS inputs on the H6 to record guitars. So you are now down to keyboards and dynamic mics on the H6. As you mentioned, dynamic mics aren't ideal for the H6. So now that leaves you with keyboards. I guess if you are a synth player you would possible use all four TRSs. Knowing this, to me, the H8 makes more sense, because the TRS inputs do support guitars.
That makes the H8 a good spider.
@@guysmiley7289 With the additional 4 xlr adaptor it is certainly an 8-legged arachnid. With pincers!
This was a review not a comparison your title is deceiving.
It’s pronounced H
Not HACHE
It's pronounced H, NOT HAYTCH!
Not much of a vs video.
This is not a comparison, he hardly talks about the H6. Don't waste 10 minutes of your life you'll never get back.
Why do you pronounce H like "Hache"?!!
Laughing at everyone buying one of these when they just drained their 401k
FFS, it’s not ‘Haych’ it’s ‘Aych’
that's one of my pet hates!
It's just a variant of the pronunciation (and one that has a much longer history in the language, tbh). Neither is "right" or "wrong."
It's pronounced 'aitch', not 'haitch'!
