- Guitar demo of the lo-fi echo machine, the Micro Dream Delay by Death By Audio.
Available for purchase at: thepedalzone.com/micro-dream/
The Micro Dream is a distilled version of Death By Audio's smash-hit delay, the Echo Dream II, offering the same magical lo-fi delays in a more compact and affordable solution.
The Micro Dream offers up to 1 second of classic analog-voiced echoes. The echo remains warm and punchy from 30ms to 400ms. From thereon and up to a full second of delay, the repeats will begin to get more noisy and grainy, but in a good way!
The Micro Dream is the perfect pedal for musicians who prefer analog and tape-like tones with some serious character and mojo. A great delay for adding rich and unique textures to your songs.

Your demos are so amazing. It's nice not to hear to constant same blues riff crap.
Thank you so much! Means a lot to me that you like 'em. Makes all the work worth it :)
No he’s right. It’s literally blues every single video. We’ve watched thousands we know this
Ok. I NEED this delay!!! I was looking for an analog delay for atmosphere. This checks all the boxes.
Hope you get the chance to check it out. It's a lovely delay pedal
I'm so deeply and madly in love with this. It sounds amazing!
Thanks for another great demo!
Jamie de la Sencerie - So happy you like the demo, and that the pedal lived up to the expectations you got from the teaser on Facebook :) It's a rad and unique pedal for sure!
Very enjoyable demo!! Love those riffs. I want this pedal now
Wyatt Clem - Thank you so much, man! It's a lovely delay pedal. If you're looking for a simple lo-fi echo, then it doesn't get much better than this one :)
Excellent demo! Love all your reviews.
Thank you so much! Extremely kind of you :)
Probably the best pedal demonstration video I've seen. Thanks a lot
Oh wow! That’s unbelievably kind of you to say. So stoked you liked the demo ❤️
Damn! I owned a Dream Echo 2 at one point and I don't remember it sounding nearly as nice as this! Especially the crazy oscillation on the DE2 I found too harsh and not very musical or useful without having to filter it severely! This is lush and nice! Well done, Stefan!
Thanks, buddy! Really happy you enjoyed the demo :) The oscillation is pretty intense and chaotic, but I dig that. Sometimes you just need that effect that'll destroy everything in an instant, and the oscillation on the Micro Dream can definitely do that if you want it to. But it can also be nice and dreamy, if you keep it within the 30-600ms range.
Excellent Demo as always Stefan!
Would love to have one of those for a future session.
Happy you liked it :)
Subscribed for the tasty guitar licks!
Humbled by the kind comment. Thank you! Can't express how much that means to me :)
Haha, everytime I find a pedal I need, you have reviewed it. I guess we have the same taste about gear.
(great playing btw!)
This is probably the 10th time I'm watching this video. Don't know if I'm gonna buy this pedal but your videos (including others) give me joy. I'm using Boss DD7, Mooer Reecho & Digitech Obscura. Someday I'm gonna replace the Boss with this. Hands down, you are the best reviewer of delay pedals.
Thanks, man! I’m truly blown away by your kind words ❤️❤️🙏🙏
Great Video, Thank you.
Really happy you like it. Thanks! :)
You really deserve more subs!!!
+Cal Deam - Really nice of you to think so. Would appreciate you spreading the word about the channel to your friends and gear community. Would be a big help :) Thank you for watching and the kind comment. You rock!
All the best
Stefan
What a rad channel! Subbed!
EnCrypticon23x - Thank you!! Means so much to me
Nice playing dude
Minh Bear - Thank you very much, man! :)
awesome ! death by audio rules!
Délivrance - Thank you very much :) And yeah, Death By Audio are amazing! Killer company consisting of good people who make excellent pedals. What's not to love? :)
Really smooth. Love Lo Fi Delay
Thanks, man! Yeah, I dig everything that has a bit of character to it, and this one definitely has a ton of character and mojo 😊
I just bought this pedal due to your video. You made it sound so delightful! Can't wait to get mine. Also, would you consider doing a video on the Hungry Robot The Wash? I'd love to see how you make that one sound as it is another one I am really interested in.
+Devin Reynolds - Wow! That's great to hear, man. Proud and honored that you found my demo inspiring and helpful in your purchase decision :) Can't promise I'll demo an HR The Wash. I don't have access to every pedal in the world :) Seems like a really cool pedal though!
Thanks Stefan! Just thought I'd ask.
Love your playing, very appropriate to the pedal. So, "grainy" in this context means noisy?
Amazing demo, you’re my go-to for checking out pedals! Question tho; would I be missing anything other than the fuzz if I got this instead of their Echo Dream 2?
Thank you! The Echo Dream also has a modulation circuit. The Micro Dream is literally only the core delay of the Echo Dream and nothing else. It’s a good core delay though
Wow it sounds very clear and bright I like it. You ran through many settings thank you Stefan. Also I have a question Stefan. Would this unit be a good pair for a CB Montavillian or a Disaster Transport Jr? (I found them to be dark)
Thank you! Hoping to see more demos from you. Already buyed one pedal thanks to your videos and seriously dreaming about this Dream Delay.
Thank you very much for the kind words! The Micro Dream can be clear and bright, but it still very much belongs in the analog-voiced realm. It's not as clear and pristine as a pure digital delay or for instance an Echoplex tape echo. I've never tried the Catalinbread Montavillian, so can't say how it's pair with that, but yes, it would be a nice partner for the Disaster Transport Jr.
Thanks for watching and commenting. Means a lot to me :)
Just found your channel today, subbed immediately. Beautiful playing, and you showcase each pedal's capabilities very well. Quick question - I'm torn between this pedal and the Caroline Kilobyte. They're both $200, and they're both the kind of lo-fi grainy that I love in a delay. What's your preference between the two?
Personally, if torn between DBA and Caroline, I'd probably go DBA. Of course, it's a BUNCH of personal preference, and YMMV. But in my personal experience, Caroline's pedals tend not to play well with others. I couldn't get the Kilobyte or the Meteore to jive with my Disaster Transport Clone, Afterneath, or Julia. And that was important to me. I had the Micro Dream for a few months before I traded, and it worked really well with my setup. Personally recommend. If you haven't gotten something in the last 5 months.
why not ARP 87?
I would love to see this compared to the Ibanez DE7. It seems like it could come close.
Great little pedal. Although the DOD Rubberneck does everything this does with more controls and options without the boutique price.
Sounds fantastic! How do you compare this to other modern compact analog delays?
Happy to hear you enjoyed it. Micro Dream isn't analog. It's actually using a a slightly crude digital delay chip called the PT2399 (crude when compared to the insane DSP chips we have available now, but the sound that the PT2399 is so charming and nostalgic. I love PT2399 delays). So in essence it's actually a digital delay, but with a voicing and structure very much like a true analog delay. If you want nostalgic and warm lo-fi repeats, then this one definitely delivers the goods, and I love how simple it is. You can find way more complex devices out there, also within the PT2399 world, so it all depends on what kind of features you really need. If you like to keep things simple, then this one is a great solution
Beautiful guitar. I have played this dozens of times and I have yet to figure this out. Will you please post the chord sequence you're playing? Argh!
This dude can demo a pedal.
Thanks, man! Kind of ya!
Hi Stefan - killer demo.
Can you isolate and get all the same tones from the Echo Rec 2? Looking at both at the moment (among a dozen or so others - almost too many choices) and really like the sounds you achieved
Thanks
Happy you liked the demo, man ☺ This and the EchoRec are two very different pedals. You can get some of the rounder analog-style sounds from the Micro Dream with the EchoRec, but you can't get the crackling disintegrating lo-fi sounds. EchoRec is way more minded at swirly ambience and rhythmical multi-tap echoes, whereas the Micro Dream is aimed at lo-fi analog-inspired echoes.
ThePedalZone thanks Stefan- apologies - I wrote EchoRec (really great sounding device) but meant to ask about the DBA Echo Dream II, oops
Aaaah okay, then yes. You can get the same tones. The Micro Dream is basically the delay circuit from the Echo Dream II, but without the fuzz and modulation.
ThePedalZone thanks a lot Stefan. Much appreciate your feedback. Best, T
found a pretty good deal on one of these. how do u think it would work in the fx loop of a dirty marshall jcm2000? too inherently muddy and grainy? im looking for a small analog or type sounding delay for an fx loop situation (mod would be a plus)
Get something digital to be super clean if you want to avoid it being muddy
Is this a PT2399. If not they've nailed the sound. I've made a few of these with a glitch and a boost switch. I don't think I've managed to get a whole second out of it on the delay time. You can always rely on Death by Audio to make a great sound paired with a unique look. Great review.
Yeah, it’s based on the pt2399
Крутая педаль
Happy you like it!
Any other effects at the 1:30 mark besides the micro dream? Love the sounds
Nope. That’s all Micro Dream right there. Super cool delay pedal for sure 😊🤘
I love the sound but it seems like a noise from the pedal. Maybe that’s the point?
Awesome demo, Stefan. What a wonderful pedal, these grainy delays sound super interesting. By the way: beautiful playing - do you use a different tuning in this one?
Keep up the great work!
Elena Grimm - Thank you so much! Really happy you enjoyed it. And yeah, those lo-fi delays are super cool and inspiring. No special tuning used in this demo. It's all standard tuning. But I've played in Drop-D in a lot of my recent demos though :)
I dont know....i love lofi delays, but this grain sounds like static to me (not the last one tho)....i like the WA ARP87 much better. great playing.....
It is static. The delay chip is being heavily over-clocked. It's only designed to go to around 300ms, but Death By Audio have pushed it to over 1sec of delay time, which will create heavy fidelity degradation the longer delay times you choose. I like that kind of static though. Sounds like an old tape that's being chewed up. But sound and art is always a subjective thing. I'm just happy you have a lo-fi delay that you like.
Keep thinking he's about to play "Atop a cake" by Alvvays
You're welcome to say YOU. We're all friends here :) Never heard of that band before. I really like it. Happy that I stumbled upon something like it on accident. Thanks for watching and commenting. Means a lot to me!
All the best - Stefan
YOU're welcome dude lol. Didn't mean anything by it, guess it's a habit. Great playing btw
No offense taken, man :) Really happy you enjoyed the demo!
I didn't know pewdiepie did vids like this
Joshua Jutila - Well, now you know #TheMoreYouKnow ;)
I gotta have tap tempo.
Sooooo, what you're saying is "I dig the sounds, but I wish it had tap tempo"? If so, I'll gladly suggest delay pedals with tap tempo that can cop some killer analog and lo-fi tones :)
@@thepedalzone what were these suggestions?
