We don't really even cut our horses' manes in Finland, we let them be natural looking (or we don't care, some do but i think most of us don't). Something like our national horse Finnhorse has REALLY long and thicc manes we braid them along the neck and not like normally you would. One single braid going from top of their head to their withers. We actually had an "epidemic" where a young girl had broken into a stable and cut horses' manes into English style and everyone was so upset 😂😂
Oh I love the manes of Finnhorses. We know a stable that breeds them here in Germany. They are so nice and gentle😍
Then get better security
(I can only speak behalf of Lapland)
Actually in Finland we don't have to worry about those kind of things my sister owns her own stable and yes she has security system on it but a lot of Finns don't bother bc it's pretty rare that someone would break in and do something...(English isn't my strongest language so I'm sorry about that)
At my stable here in sweden we dont cut our horses manes
native breeds (the ones with really nice hair) are natural but others that are usually too thin to do plaits from top to bottom get the bun plaits
Is it just me or the things that didn't go as planned (first time horse, dark colored bands) kind of worked to the viewers benefit
Edit: They looked beautiful anyways
Nina Wagoner we are all about reality here!
Yeah it did help us see the bands better on our screen !
Really enjoyed this Olivia! As an eventer I simply rushed plaits for years, once I’m back riding I’ve decided to stick with dressage until my ankle strengthens up, so I’ll definitely be practising plaiting! I’ve never had the patience for threading I usually band them but my younger boy has a habit of shaking and scratching plaits out while I’m tacking up so thanks for the demo on threading made sense to me and your way seems easier than the way I was told lol so will definitely give it a try! 🧵 x
Let us know how you get on! So glad you enjoyed this video :)
I've always been so bad at plaiting! Your tips are very useful, thanks so much for sharing! x
Absolutely love how genuinely honest you’re being x
LOVE Olivia’s videos!!! MORE PLEASE!! 👍🤗
They are coming your way!!!!
Great tips Olivia...thanks 🥰 maybe a forelock demo too next time ? 😉
Coralie Sentch 😂 we did film it! I just dunno where it went 😂
🥴🤣🤣🤣
This helped so much on learning the thread way I usually just to the hunter string but dressage is around the corner for me so this really helped
Maddy Sgshjcgk so glad it helped you ♥️
Pluto is so adorable 😍
Thanks for the tips 😊 my plaits on my thick maned horse have come undone at pretty much every show I've done so I can't wait to try again now!
Colleen Horigan hope this helps! It can be hard when they have thick manes xx
I REALLY appriciate you showing the good and the bads. I have never platted my manes before and you have done a nice job. lol I like the "spit" idea. Thanks again
Thank you Olivia! This video was very helpful as folding plaits baffles me !
What a lovely video! Thanks, FEI and Olivia Towers.
She is such a beautiful horse, she is glowing with color!😁

This help me with my 18 year old mare so much x

Good luck!!!! 🍀🤞
loving these
Barbie is such a beautiful horse!!!
Really good video .very interesting .thank you .x
Loved this vid!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi. I live in the States & it’s interesting to see the difference between how we plait & u plait. We do long flat braids the lay against the neck. When we get to the end we fold them under & tie off. They’re much closer together. I’ve never seen anyone use thread here & sew them but doesn’t mean people don’t do it. We use yarn tied & braided in & pull the braid under & up. We also use bands. Very interesting video. I wonder what people over here would think if I showed up with English plaits. 😄 Notice I use the word braid as well. We also in general thin or pull our manes more often I believe. I do. It’s the way I was taught but other people may not. Wonderful video
Your camera person drove me mad. Youre trying to explain and show something and it goes blury
Thank you so much very helpful!
Love this video ❤️❤️❤️
I love her 😂 she kept it real with the spit tip, weve all done it ! Lol
Be fr we've all done it 😅
always loved your videos and demo lie this is so intresting
So glad you liked it lovely :D x
Also would love to see a forelock demo too if possible! It's fine if not though! Thanks x
Awesome vid thank you
So funny! In the Netherlands most of the people I know actually plat the manes on the left side :)
What kind of horse is Barbie? She is so sweet and calm, especially for a 4 year old.
I plait my bay with white bands and my coloured with black (she has a white tail) because it makes them look super smart
I already know all this as I have a horse but still fun to watch
OMG I NEEDED THIS
Loved this! Thanks for being human n not crazy proper! I us spit too! I need to find that comb! Never saw one in the states!
Beautiful. thank you.
I learned more than I have from 4 trainers who promised to teach me to braid
Here in Belgium we learn to platter the mane left! I even remember a friend of mine saying that’s in some sort of competition rules when i did the braids on the right side. We were young, it’s not true ( or not anymore anyways?) but maybe it used to be a rule and that’s why
Pre-threading a dozen needles is a great idea to save time !
The way barbie was eating the lead rope 😂
Oh wow whenever I braid, my mom (who is also my trainer, lucky me) always says there has to be a _whole bunch that are super small_ . Obviously they dont have to be haha
I"m so happy that I have a fjord with a the mane standing up
Your horse looks so like a pony I ride in my riding school skittles I love him !!
Your so good at plaiting! What comb did you use?❤️
I'm not very experienced with horses and this may be a stupid question, but when you pull a band out of a horses mane like that does it cause any discomfort or pain for the horse? Also, great tutorial, simple to follow and great instructon.
I wanted to fix that damn halter so bad 😭😑 low key my pet peeve
haha my bad!
Meh. My pet peeve is people who can't mind their own business mistakes happen
this is when she starts showing you how to braid 7:48 your welcome.
thank youu
I recently got a horse. She was a polo horse so we're working on her jumping and she doesn't have a mane at the moment......she an Appy called Ginger Rose she has a fantastic jump. A bit overestimated tho she leaps a 50 to a 1m
I always need more practice at this👍. Also need to find that comb, definitely need one of those 😃. Shocking secrets revealed, you use spit to help braid. 😜💦🐴 That bit will stay with me the rest of the day, thanks. 🤣😂
haha I can't believe I have put that secret into the world!!!
@@OliviaTowersDressage well, we are horse people, so 💞🐴 =💩🤢 every day. You're just showing that we're all pretty much the same. 😏👍
I read this while she was saying it
I read this as she said the saliva thing
My dog looks exactly like that with floppy ears!
I have a mane problem/question. I have a Arabian quarter horse gelding who has a part of his mane in Mohawk and it’s a patch between mane that’s long. What should I do?? We’re gonna be showing him on show jumping next year and I’m really stuck on what to do. I do not have a trainer because we keep him at my friends who have 16 other horses.
My mare had a section of her mane rub off from her blanket this winter. I was really unsure what to do for show season because it had grown back a bit, but not enough to braid, so I gave her a mohawk! It looks SO much better than before, and on show day, I didn't have to do anything to it! She still had a bit of a kink in the hair that laid flat, so I straightened it with a flat iron and threw some human mohawk gel in it. It looks amazing and really makes her neck look cresty and rounded. 10/10 recommend trying!
What kind of dog is that? Adorable!!!
Any tips for braiding a really long uncut main, my mare usually has her mane natural and long in the field and out on rides, but I do like to French braid it, but I would love to be able to pait it as well, I'm just not sure how to approach it
Where did you get your braiding comb? That's really neet I've never seen one like that!
Barbie in the background eating the lead😂
Dog: can I have a rub please
Her: continues taking about the set
Me : please rub the dog pleas rub the dog
I REALLY want to try this out on my 6 year old and see how he does.
It looks like popcorn on my Palamino Jessica lol
Nobody has tutorials for thick short manes 😁
My horse hates being plaited and freaks out when I touch his mane. Any ideas on what would improve that x
Kelly Grant Eventing build into it slowly so just get them use to you brushing it etc x
Umm actually train them
I recommend using a crop or a whip and just rub it on your horses butt and work your way up towards the ears. And if you ride and while tacking him up rub his neck and work your up towards his mane. And reward good behavior. Letting your horse know he is doing the right thing he is going to be happier. Take your time don’t rush. Also tying a plastic bag on a whip/crop and rub it up and down him should also help. I’m no professional but this has worked for me.
When the horse was eating the rope...that’s like me when my mom is talking to me
What's the comb called that your using I would love one of those
What kind of brush with the clip on it is that? Like what's it called? That's genius.
That's what I was thinking 😅
bobby: yum this rope tastes great😁😭😭
Uhm my horse has a lot of coloring in her main do I do one color like we’re going realy navie blue so should I use blue rubur bands or do like a try your hardest to get it like the same colors ?
Don’t worry I use saliva too 😂😅
Alice Wigmore Dresssge yay 😂😂😂
What happened to the forelock plaiting?
You need to change the video operator, sorry, more than half of this is out of focus. It can be fun for a second, but it's just annoying at this point.
Natalia Kedzierska not for me
I totally understand but it’s maybe a bit harsh to instantly say the video operator needs to be changed. Because I don’t think it is easy to film a great point a view of the mane while Olivia’s platting. In the stable it was probably also quite dark which makes it harder and it could also be the camera not working properly... it happens...
What’s the black comb called with crocodile clip on plz
What is that “ little device “ called? Thx
your horse was just eating her lead rope lol
Braids are HUGE!!
Lovely video Enjoying this series A friendly criticism tho is to be more .mindful of camera focus you blurred out a # of times, some were a bit longish maybe some editing would help to make your presentation a bit more polished (but not to the point of sacrificing your delightful genuineness) 👍🙂❤
Even though I have a fjord I still watch this 😂
Forlock and tail vids pls
HORABLE LIGHTING!!!!!
I won 157 cm in my horse is 18 Hans hello getting knocked off of it every five minutes bye horses when I’m trying to braid
What
We let the horses mane on the left because we lasso with our right
Fairy stirrups are very real
i typed long horse i just found this
尾花栗毛?きれいなお馬さんじゃん。
We dont want lasso getting caught on the right so we plait it on the left
Ta ducks :)
I have a walking horse so I dont plat for show but walking horse manes should fall on the left it may just be a breed thing
20:20
Great video. Try egg whites instead of plaiting spray or saliva.
The barn hallways are so narrow gosh
8 minutes until finally braiding begins.......
I feel like someone’s gonna get mad at the house for cultural appropriation
I feel bad for laughing at this-
Wish you hadn’t it music over the parts she is speaking
they say gnomes braid the horses mane in mexico.
I don’t even know how to braid tbh
I really disklike the music
The music ruins this video for me.
Ewwww, using spit on your horse is gross!!!
Who cares..? The horse obviously does not care 😂😑
So what?
haha it is pretty gross but extremely effective!!
So is rolling in poop but horses do it anyways! I'm pretty sure they don't mind!
You clearly aren’t an. Equestrian
Not a very good plaiting job. You are making them too wide. And they should be sewn not rubber bands.
She talked about why she used bands
