The procedure for the school bus is false. The driver of the bus is REQUIRED to stop at the crossing, open the door, and listen for a train. Plus the train wouldn't derail and the bus would have been split in half or thrown onto the ballast. And towards the end, another train wouldn't be coming because the dispatcher has already notified all scheduled trains on the line of an incident

It was going too fast and the train hit the school bus so that's why it derailed
It would have pushed the school bus right out of the way with the weight on board instead of derailing.

technically a train can derail after hitting any vehicle all it takes is small parts to get under the wheels and take them off the rail
