There are 2 potent goalscorers alongside him and he seems to be happy being the playmaker. I am sure if the coach needs him to, he would play closer to the box.
Messi definitely did not deserve the criticism against RM, it was the team as a whole that collapsed. PSG could have been 3-0 or 4-0 ahead in the tie had they taken their chances better, some of them came from Messi's passes. And if you look closely, most of the so called best players in the world are all out of the UCL in the R16. Donnurumma dont know to pass the ball properly when he has goal kick. Benzema took that advantage in second half after break. May be his coach noticed that and him as well.
