My first ever idol was TVXQ. I saw them for the very 1st time in 2011 (Tri-angle) and I was shocked, but fell in love with them.
Years later EXO become my ult and now both groups are my favourites kpop artists ever.
@yordankavo hiii it's fun running into cassies who are also exols ☺️ yeah I listened to them in 2011 but didn't stan until 2016 for exo I heard them in 2013 and didn't stan until 2015. Both groups get mistreated a lot and have gone through lawsuits so yeah I'm not surprised they are both my favs somehow
Not only is TVXQ an SM group, so amazing vocals are a given, but they were originally supposed to be an acapella group, so they are known for having superior harmonies and vocals. (In the early days -- 2003-09 when they were a 5-member group -- they actually had a lot of acapella performances that really showed off their vocal abilities.) Also, any of those songs that were released before 2010 were originally with all 5 members, so, for example, just wait until you see and hear "Tonight", "Purple Line" and "Love In The Ice" sang live with all 5 members in the song. :D (They have been a duo for 14 years now, way longer than they ever were a 5 member group.)
"Down" is their pre-release MV and "Rebel" is their lead MV from their 9th full-length Korean album, 20&2 -- 20 years and still 2 members strong -- which is a celebration of their 20th anniversary on Dec. 26. "Rebel" was the whole reason why they were on Killing Voice in order to promote their comeback and their 20th anniversary. (The last song in any Killing Voice performance -- unless its an encore song -- is always the artists' most recent song that they are promoting at the time, so of course it's only just the two of them.)
Although their debut song "Hug" was released at the beginning of 2004, they officially debuted the day after Christmas in 2003, so that is why their most recent comeback was in celebration of their 20th anniversary. (Changmin was only 15 in this MV and U-know was 17.)
They're "Rising Gods of the East" for a reason. Even after more than 20 years they are still continuing to break new ground and demonstrate why they are the leaders in the industry.
If you haven't yet, check out their 2023 MAMA performance where they showcased "Down" even before the MV was released. They also had an epic collaboration stage with SM's newest boy group RIIZE, where they performed "Rising Sun."
"Rising Sun" is a classic and a lot of artist and groups have covered the song over the years. Plus, it's used in a lot of things, so you'll probably start to notice it being used in things you watch. And it's one of those songs that defines who TVXQ are so, when you talk about them or they perform anywhere they usually play this song. "Rising Sun" came out in 2005 about a month before Super Junior debuted with their song "Twins (Knock Out)", the hard rock, grunge vibe was just the style of music that SM and the Kpop industry was playing around with back then. The whole song, MV and style was very on trend. Therefore, it has a sound and feel to it like a lot of songs that were released around this time.
And yes, those are 100% the real lyrics in "Purple Line." If I remember correctly, Changmin wasn't the original member to sing "I really want to touch myself," put those are just some of the iconic English lines you got in Kpop songs back then. I think the line was originally supposed to be something like "I really want to get in touch with myself," but when SM recorded it, they thought it sounded better the way you heard it, even though everyone questioned leaving it that way when they first read the lyrics. It sounds more scandalous in English than I think the Korean public views it. It's one of those English lines in older Kpop songs that sort of gets lost in translation and is more about the way it sounds in the song than what it really means.
"Chance of Love" in 2018 not only was a big deal because it was celebrating their 15th anniversary, but it also was their first comeback after being discharged from the military, so the Kpop industry was ready and waiting for them to release a new album.
"Love Line," is also part of their Chapter No. 1: The Chance of Love album, and "Truth," is part of their follow up/repackaged album Chapter No. 2: The Truth of Love, which both also have MVs.
As you saw, "Keep Your Head Down" was released at the beginning of 2011. It was their first comeback after splitting from JYJ and it's the performance that solidified them as two of the top artists in the industry. This song showed everyone just how capable they were as artists -- that they could continue as just the two of them and never miss a beat.They are one of the most powerful and well respected duos, and with more than 20 years in the industry, there is no doubt they have legendary status -- and they are still blowing people away with their talent. "Keep Your Head Down " is talking about being able to back up everything they say and do with their talent -- i.e. "keep your head down" and don't show off unless you have the talent and ability to back it up, etc.
"Something" is all big band based, and it becomes even more prominent when you see the MV. This was their comeback in celebration of their 10th anniversary. Their live choreography for this song is really impressive as well.
If you want to hear the full song of any of these songs all you have to do is look them up, they've been holding concerts for almost 20 years, so they have sang all these songs live multiple times.
U-Know is known for his passion and intensity. There is almost no one in the Kpop industry that is more passionate than him when it comes to singing and dancing, and believe it or not, be rachetes it up even more when he is performing live. Just like SHINee's Minho is nicknamed "Flaming Charisma" because of his passion for sports and games and life in general -- well it's a running joke in the Kpop industry that Minho, U-Know and Siwon from Super Junior make up the holy trinity of passion within SM -- they are so convicted and intense that if they hang out together no one can compete with them. LOL ;)
Also U-Know was/is the main dancer of TVXQ and he is known for his dancing. He is considered one of the top dancers in Kpop, so dance breaks are his thing, which is why his parts are often so dance-centric. The more you get into TVXQ and U-know, you will see that intense, powerful dance moves are what he does. If a normal dancer puts 110% into a dance move, U-know uses 200%.
Just wait until you see the choreography for these songs, they can do all this while dancing and singing live.

It's finally here, I can finally stop pushing for it hahaha. My heart was pounding the whole time, I'm so happy you've finally seen it. TVXQ, aka The Rising Gods of the East, debuted on 26th December 2003 (Changmin was just 15) and were five members until 2009. They've been a duo ever since. Changmin needs no introduction but Yunho is Mr Passion (he's the "frontman" that Simon said he liked in the Mirotic MV). He is a true extrovert and has no 'off' switch 😂 Changmin tells him he's too much all the time, they have an old married couple dynamic. But he calls Changmin (the maknae) "my pride" ❤ Yunho is the leader, centre, lead rapper, lead dancer, and (now main) vocalist. He's super charismatic, genuine and loveable. He is often mentioned by other idols/groups in SM as a very involved and caring senior, they're both revered by their juniors. Vocal gods. I can't wait for you to see more, especially some OT5 classics as well as the duo. Welcome to Cassiopeia 😂❤

TVXQ! are a duo since 2010 ("Mirotic" in 2008 was their last Korean comeback as 5, I believe).
"Keep your head down" from 2011, also included in this killing voice, was their first comeback as 2.
They were a duo for so long, that I can't even imagine them as 5 anymore - but I need to say that all of the former members also have such amazing voices, that if they had stayed together, it would have been legendary! Their live performances as 5 are still being watched and recommended today, because they were truly unbelievable together.
3 members that left TVXQ! formed a trio group JYJ. They are also soloists.
One of the former members, Kim Jaejoong, performed solo stage at Asia Artists Awards 2023 and everyone (especially Stray Kids) were fanboying so hard haha
Jaejoong is also still the most popular K-pop artist in Japan lol, their power 👑
That stage was great! And now that petty lee sooman is out of sm hopefully we’ll get to see more of jaejoong too!

Thank you so much for reacting to TVXQ - my precious 2nd Generation loves (EXO are my 3rd Gen babies). Brilliant vocals in wide genres from RnB, Jazz, EDM and massive in J-Pop (called Tohoshinki), powerful stage performances which I hope you get to react to, and ballads that make crowds literally weep (imagine hearing live: Love in the Ice). Yunho and Changmin have been through a lot in their 20 years which has only served to polish their stages, presense and oil-water chemistry to a perfect T. Mind you during the recording of Killing Voice, poor Yunho was still recovering from a bad winter flu which explains the watery eyes you noticed.
And yes Kerry, Uknow Yunho is… wow… if I explain in EXO terms to help you imagine his character: take the moral compass (and facial similarity) of Leader Suho, passion of Chanyeol, height of Sehun, Jazz-dance version of Kai, squish competitiveness of every member into one model-statured human = Uknow Yunho. Xiumin is a massive Cassiopeia (TVXQ Fandom name) and his favourite is Changmin, to the extent of getting an apartment in the same neighbourhood in Seoul :D

The two members you watched are:
(White coat) Max Changmin, 88 liner. He is the more quiet and introspective of the two, but has his moments of pure genius and honestly is hilarious...especially when he is being snarky. His solo work is some of the best in the game and really showcases his creative side. He is married and has a toddler aged son.
(Black coat) Uknow Yunho, 86 liner. Is best known for his passionate nature and true love for performing. He is honestly an inspiration to so many kpop idols because of his hard work and his constant ON button. His solo work is grand in scale and all so creative and unique.
TVXQ are THAT group. They have always been perfection and are true all-rounders. Thank you for reacting to them, I do hope you can react to them many more times in the future. (I recommend checking out their performance of Humanoids at Nissan Stadium - you'll be blown away.

‘Love in the ice’ is such a good song, especially with all 5 of them singing it live - goosebumps. Also, the mixnine cover of it is one of the best covers of anything ever.
Also, ‘spellbound’ has such a good music video - proper twenties big band vibes and is a lot of fun.
Honestly, you can't beat the vocals and visuals of all the SM Entertainment groups. There was initially 5 members in TVXQ/DBSK but 3 left years ago. All 5 of them trained at SM with the members of Super Junior so all are very close to this day.
BTW - They're known as Dong Bang Shin Ki (DBSK) in Korea. Changmin is the reserved, quiet and married person while Yuno is known throughout Korea as the most passionate idol around.
😂 Yuno, Shinee's Minho, Exo's Suho and Super Junior's Siwon are known as the most passionate ones in SM. There are running jokes about how the former CEO and founder of SM used to try to avoid this group of overly passionate men. LOL
I stopped listening to DBSK after the split, but this killing voice brought these two back to me. I am glad the both of them are doing well.
As many people in the comments have said, any of the songs prior to 2011 (2010 or earlier) were with 5 members. Some have been reworked to being for two singers but many haven't. So you'll notice vocal lines belonging to other members in there (though these two are singing many of the other's lines also).

They started as 5 later 3 of them left SM after legal battle. Ppl expected the end of TVXQ after that but these two (max & U-KNOW) proved them wrong with the same amount of popularity.
U-KNOW is one of SM's most passionate idols (TVXQ U-KNOW, SUJU's Siwon, EXO's Chanyoel, SHINEE's Minho...) SUJU's haechul jokingly said that if the founder of SM find then tgthr he would avoid them cuz one's passion is already overwhelming so them thgr is just crazy 😅...

They used to be 5 member group, because at first they were acapella group, so if you look up their 2003-2005 releases they sang many ballad songs, and they were amazing, it was something you don't see these days. But the group split up in 2010 and many speculations going around about why the group break up (but we never really know what happened, in some senses I think the break up was quite personal), at that time TVXQ break up is one of the biggest scandal in K-Pop history..

I hope you enjoy TVXQ Killing Voice, for me personally their Killing Voice is really fun to watch, I didn't realize time went by so fast.. what made it enjoyable is because Yunho and Changmin look like really enjoying this performance, it seems like they were just playing around, while hitting those notes, lol😅
Yunho and Changmin are widely known for their stability and stamina during live performances, because they used to do hundreds of concerts that last about 3-4 hours,(or thousands? Well, they've been around for 20 years, so yeah suddenly I feel so old 😂..)
The last thing, that Purple Line LINE tho, uhh everybody always stunned everytime they heard the lyric..
That "I really wanna touch myself" is not the literal meaning though, the song itself actually told about motivation and triumph tho, about goals and purposes etc etc..

Changmin's high notes are one of the best and smoothest sounding one! Doesn't hurt your ears and it just fits in the song well.

😅 the hilarious irony about these two from what i discovered lately is how extremely different they are , personalities? Extreme opposition that it's always funny seeing one trying their damnest to accommodate to the other, mostly yunho cause changmin is usually busy pleading the fifth when he is not nagging , snapping nor flaming yunho's entire being , on the other hand , them two out of five are the only ones who made the decision to stay 20 years , that and all the incredible amount of " sames desicions" that led to this 20 years after , as someone extremely intrested in interpersonal relationships, this picture is an enigma 🤔
I know them since I started learning Korean in 2009 I'm around the same age as them too so it's still weird for me to see them sing the songs they used to do as a 5 members group and the backgrounds vocals making up for it makes it impossible to ignore but they're doing so well even as a duo 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
