  • One day in Mülheim an der Ruhr! 🇩🇪
Mülheim, officially Mülheim an der Ruhr is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. It is located in the Ruhr Area between Duisburg, Essen, Oberhausen and Ratingen. It is home to many companies, and two Max Planck Institutes.
What to see in one day in Mülheim an der Ruhr?
•The Mülheim Stadtmitte subway station is a subway station in Mülheim (Ruhr). It is operated by the Duisburg Stadtbahn and the Mülheim an der Ruhr tram. It lies along the Schloß Broich-Mülheim Hbf urban railway section.
•The Mülheim an der Ruhr media house is located on Synagogue Square in the city center and is the location of the city library in the MedienHaus with its over 220,000 media. The “Rio” cinema is also located there. The four-story building with a usable area of 6,700 m² was built between 2007 and 2009 and cost 41.2 million euros.
•The only reminders of the former synagogue in Mülheim an der Ruhr today are the Synagogue Square and a memorial plaque on the media house. On August 2, 1907, the Jewish community inaugurated their new prayer house next to the Imperial Post Office. The magnificent building in the neo-Romanesque style was considered the most beautiful church building in Mülheim an der Ruhr. For 31 years, services on the Sabbath and high Jewish holidays, cultural events and general religious education filled the house. On October 5, 1938, the neighboring Stadtsparkasse took over the synagogue because the Jewish community could no longer bear the costs due to the shrinking number of members. It also stood in the way of expanding the bank building. During the November pogroms of 1938, the Mülheim synagogue was set on fire on the night of November 9th to 10th. Its remains were removed at the beginning of 1939.
•The historic town hall in Mülheim an der Ruhr is an administrative building complex located in the city center in the Altstadt I district. With a historical component from 1915, it houses the administrative board around the mayor, the city council, its committees and municipal advisory boards as well as large parts of the Mülheim city administration. This makes the town hall the political and administrative center of the Ruhr area city. In addition, it is one of its most important and most characteristic architectural monuments, not least because of the 60 meter high town hall tower.
•The now Protestant St. Peter's Church, the oldest church building in Mülheim an der Ruhr, goes back to the chapel of a medieval manor on what is now the church hill. It is one of eight churches in the district that are listed buildings.
•The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Mary's Birth (also Mariae Nativity) on the church hill in Mülheim an der Ruhr is considered the first church building of the New Objectivity in the Ruhr area. The foundation stone for the industrial-looking church building with a brick facade and three high arches at the entrance was laid in 1928. The church was inaugurated on March 10, 1929. The design comes from the Aachen architect Emil Fahrenkamp.
•The Ruhr is a river in western Germany (North Rhine-Westphalia), a right tributary (east-side) of the Rhine.
•The Mülheim Garden Show, also known as Mülheim's Garden on the Ruhr, was the third state garden show in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1992. Today the 66 hectare MüGa Park in the Broich district of Mülheim is used as a green and leisure area. As part of the IGA Metropole Ruhr 2027, the park will be extensively redesigned.

Mülheim, like almost all of the Ruhr area cities, was bombed pretty heavily in WW2. There is a cute little (~3 streets + a square) oldtown core, but that's about it. Wish there was more but MH is broke so building back is unlikely :(
