  • With seconds left, in the match, freshman Beau Mantanona of Palm Desert nearly pulled off an upset against the number one seeded wrestler Andre Gonzales of Poway. Mantanona was trailing 3-2 when the official gave him two points but the clock had already ran out. Gonzales would go on to compete in the finals against a familiar foe, Raymond Lopez of Buchanan, both are juniors.

    He’s making a habit of losing heartbreakers against buchanon even
    Tho he really won the 138 state championship

    It only would’ve been 2 if he got the boot in

    Is this the same kid that just got ABSOLUTELY SCREWED this past year at...132 or 138?
    Where they called a 2R and 2NF and then he just kinda sat there and let the last 10 seconds run off thinking he had the lead..then they waved it off?
    I mean...in fairness, he definitely doesn't get screwed here. He doesn't get hook the leg, there's no 2 here. But in the other one he DEFINITELY got hosed.
    Though I know he's got a brother, so maybe it's just the same family.

      Glad to hear that boy is moving on. I just watched it last week and found this vid today. It’s terrible to have someone else’s mistake cost you a state title.

      it's the same wrestler, beau! I watched it live, as a wrestler, it was completely a robbery!

    This reminds of the final where Trey Munoz almost had the takedown vs Mata but didn’t quite get it... sometimes you need just one or two more seconds

    • @scourge8097
      @scourge8097 Před 2 lety +1

      One or two more seconds and this ends up a 5-2 match. Just couldn't quite McCllravy that and bend that leg right to get it in there for the TD.

    No 2 he didn’t get the boot in

    Not controversial as that definitely wasn't two. Poway kid still had Montanona's arm so continuation into a throw or whatnot and Montanona did not get a boot in. Put those together it was not two. Actual good call by refs. He also did not get fully behind the hips, he was on the kid's back.

    Attention to stalling has been a big part of saving wrestling form Olympic oblivion. Fans had to wait until the last 6 seconds to see wrestling. I understand the tension but referees need to call stalemates earlier. Tough work if you have two counter-specialists but the sport needs action. Folk-style should add points for pushouts. Scoring was a bit confusing from the video. Was there an escape in the third? No takedown by red at the end although points were initially given, but correctly removed.

    I've seen so many videos with poor officiating at this CIF event. Has to be intentional...

    • @scourge8097
      @scourge8097 Před 2 lety

      Yeah...but this isn't poor officiating. This was a pretty obvious call. In fact, this is GREAT officiating. I wish refs would wave off points when they know it's a bad call more often.
      I did see this kid(or this kids brother) just get screwed badly in another match where they gave him 2 and 2 in the 2nd 30 second period, then wiped them away when the other kid was trying to kick out the last 4-5 seconds(indicating he no longer had control).
      So I've seen one example. Not multiple though.

    Wow, Montanona just got robbed again by gioffree, that really sucks

    • @Sam-tg6ee
      @Sam-tg6ee Před 2 lety +1

      The first 106 match was not a robbery… montanona did not get a takedown at all and if you slow down the time you see that giofree got the takedown before the time went out

  • @pipegang6497
    @pipegang6497 Před 2 lety +1

    I'm at a lose in the first match when the video starts the score is 1-3 the boy on bottom gets and escape so that should have made it 2-3 and a little bit later the ref calls a stale mate and I'm guessing he also calls stalling on the boy in green because he give the boy in red 1 point which would have made the match 3-3

      @@GetSportsFocus it’s a shame that a young man who’s giving his all to a sport has that same sport steal his dreams. I hope he powers through it and I see him in the NCAA tournament soon.
