Hard to believe that this masterpiece is just one epic song from a brilliant debut album that was recorded in one day (the whole album, not the song!).
This track is a masterpiece from Sabbath. The lyrics are exceptionaly accurate and the music bears the name of the band. Both Butler and Iommi shine as bright as a 20000 fuse box. Bill Ward's drumming is superb as a mix of both rock and jazz.
Sabbath completely made this song their own. This goes beyond a cover. This might be the best stuff they ever recorded. It's a song like this that pulls their debut into first place on my list of Sabbath records.
Aynsley Dunbar wrote it...but Tony took it to another level. I've loved this song since I first heard it back in back in 1979 or so...my introduction to Sabbath. 👍

Iommi really does show his Blues roots here with a great, classic solo that dominates the mid-section of the song. Its very impressive. Wish we would have heard more of this style of playing from him after the 1st LP.
iommi has a lot of blues stuff on the other albums , but I get what you mean with this unique performance by him...mostly because sabbath wanted to make each album different

Many other bands have broken through a creative wall and brought music into a whole new direction. But they often times get over-run by other bands following their lead who do a better job of doing that style than the originators did. Bands like the Small Faces and the Birds become footnotes in history. Not Sabbath, no one has even come close no matter how many try. To me that's the most amazing thing about this band. An album like this or Vol. IV still blows my mind just as much 40yrs after I first heard it.

Teleported back to the early 80's as a very young teen going to different friend's houses and going through their older siblings vinyl collections. Listening to everything on each album and passing the album cover around. I can almost recall whose house I was at for the first listen of almost every Zeppelin, Sabbath, Rush, Yes, and Floyd album during that time. First time I heard Dark side of the Moon, I was locked in a dark closet with a Sony Walkman.

In honor of the last Black Sabbath concert ever. Haven't got the chance to see them live; but still, they are one of the biggest things that happened to music. May you live long Iommi, Ozzy, Geezer and Ward! Last thing I want to say to them is in "the warning" itself:
"I was born without you baby, but my feelings were too much strong." Let's hope no human being passes away without hearing the Sabbath.
