$200 is easily the most I would ever pay for a new ball
That’s fair! I know we are in the days of bowling balls getting expensive!
Yeah every single gem bowling ball
Good luck finding anything as good as the 220-300$ range... I mean 90% of your good bowling balls are over 200 and there's no issue with that. you get what you pay for.
@@Oldtrickshotsswhere are you getting your bowling balls my guy?
My pro shop has the higher end balls for at most $200.
@@Oldtrickshotssroto grip hyped pearl. Example one. That ball is a monstser. Venom shock example two. League benchmark ball all day.
You can afford expensive stuff... we get it. Catch me at a tourney. 😘
Nothing like ending my day in the lab with a video from The House.
Love that 🔥🔥
I had one of those when they were new. It was my most favorite ball EVER. I was night manager at a bowling center and the lane guy told me it left black marks on the lanes. But this was pre-synthetic lanes. Had my highest average and highest scores with the LT48. Also insert were relatively new and I didn’t use them. This was by far the easiest ball to hold because of the texture of the core.
Being in my '50s and a lefty Johnny Petraglia was my idol growing up. Most others latched onto Earl Anthony. I loved Johnny's personality that's what attracted me to him.

(If problem with link, it's one of your #shorts "Insane Bowling Trick Shot To Make Bowling Split!!"
Love every video you put out Packy, keep making awesome content and keep kicking butt in bowling! 0:44
He made the two ball split in a recent video. Cameraman even commented was impressed he made it.
I was just going to say, didn't he make one recently 🤔
he answered another comment about that. That video was actually filmed after this one.
Back in late 70’s when I regularly bowled my ball was an LT 48. Picked up used at garage sale, plugged and redrilled. Dragged it with me during my time in the Navy in the early 80’s. Finally let it go after it sat in basement 20+ yrs. Now as I close in on second retirement starting to get bowling urge again.
Wow.......I shot my first 800 in junior leagues back in 1978 with the LT48, then the Columbia 300 Yellow Dot was my go to until urethane came out. Bringing back memories here.
Hey Packy, I hope you and your crew, and everybody else watching this, are staying safe right now. I know Maine is pretty far from where you are, but you can never be too careful. The world’s pretty crazy right now.
I appreciate that! Sending prayers to all of the Maine bowling community and everyone affected!
Wait what happened????

I met Johnny Petraglia at my very first pro-am in 1994. He was SO nice.
That’s awesome!! Him and Parker are two of the nicest guys out there!!
String pins are wild, it’s just so entertaining to watch Packy bowl on string pins(and it’s just entertaining to watch people bowl on string pins in general)
String pins are a travesty, and on a long enough timeline they will be the death of competitive bowling.
@@notonyourlife7939 Agreed but string pins are kinda interesting tho
@@julianthebowler Cancer is "interesting" too... but nobody wants that, either.
@@notonyourlife7939 Okay the cancer was random but I respect your opinion of string pins٫ not everyone is gonna like them٫ I don't really like them٫ I just like the pin action from string pins
@@julianthebowler There's nothing "random" about it... it's called an analogy. The point is simple: just because something is complex, or intellectually intriguing, that doesn't make it good or desirable. And the "action" from string pins is precisely what makes it a carnival game, and nothing remotely like the way free-fall pins behave.
Man everybody had those LT-48's back in the day. Good stuff Packy.
You guys should try a challenge on bowling on certain speeds, maybe like starting slow and getting faster
Back in the day, the Yellow Dot hooked. It was the original soaker ball in the 70s. However you have a second generation Yellow Dot (the originals did not have that logo on the side) and they were not nearly as good. The LT-48 hooked more, but the core was sometimes difficult to get used to before the days of thumb sleeves. Also, you could wear a track in the rubber ball if it was your only ball.
I threw the LT-48 when I was in high school. Dad had the Yellow dot around that time.
I am throwing thumb out and just had the thumb plugged in a white dot so I can throw it rather than buying a new plastic ball.
Right, sometimes the 2nd generation isn't as good as the first. I loved the original Cuda/C Pearl, 2nd generation came out in 2000 with the Cuda/C 2000. I had a Pro Shop and my Distributor comped me and my assistant a Ball and it was nothing like the original. I don't bowl anymore so I haven't tried the 3rd generation.
I recently sanded an old rubber ball and some other vintage plastic balls and used some polish on it for my Grandma as a garden ornament. That JP ball is AMAZING
A little Mr. Beast thumbnail action going on ;) I have already started looking for clearance balls because the price point on new balls is getting so high. My first ball from a pro shop as a teen was the yellow dot $1 ball you are throwing and I thought it was so much better than the Galaxy500's from Kmart I had been throwing for a few years before that.
I had an LT48 Back in the 80s I believe.
$250 is to steep for an out of production ball, says the guy who sent you an expensive out of production ball lol. Carl says you got to give the lanes what they want, not what you want lol. FYI Carl won because he is still in the conversations with the LT-48
This was hilarious. I had both of these back in my youth and was remembering the smell of the LT48 as you were talking about it. Might still be in my basement...
Weirdly enough those two balls are looking like a perfect league pair. Strike and spare balls
Why do you need a spare ball? Were you never showed how to flatten a ball? Or you a not coordinated enough to insert your thumb.
@mcarr621 i mean I have two bowling balls one without a thumb hole and the other with it I mainly use the one with the thumb hole as a spare pick up
@@mcarr621what a dumb comment
@@mcarr621mfw when half of all the best bowling pros use spareballs lol
Packy. Nice video! Did you have to drill the ball yourself or did you get it drilled at Buddy's Pro Shop? I'm not sure if my PSO would have been comfortable drilling a ball so old and expensive. I think Purple Hammer may make it into a display case at the National Bowling Museum at some point, probably in aboit 30-40 years
I had an LT-48 in my teens...loved that ball. Carried a 190 average at 14yrs old which was impressive considering I had only been bowling for 2 yrs at the time
glad to see Carl, the legend himself, back on the lanes
In h.s. I used to practice with my dad's lt48 the original one... interesting for sure! Cool video!
Thanks!
Wild string pin carry
Seems like it was early 80s when I had an LT-48. I do remember every time the ball came back it had an obvious oily track line. The ball was sponge-like, in "oil-absorbing" power. Towel was mandatory. But, the hooking power was better than any other ball I had had. In actuality too much hook~~~!
Ohhhhh the classic lt48
$240-$260 depending on the ball. Keep in mind the shop I go to includes the drilling (adds about $40-$50 to the price).
I had an LT-48 forty plus years ago. After that I had my first urethane ball the AMF Black Angle.
Lt-48 was the best hooking ball back in the day! I remember these days well ahem flat 10 lol but then came hammer and nothing hit like a hammer! You could hear the sound difference in the hit! Id like to think my old Lt is resting in a garden somewhere! There’s some lucky gardener out there!
Holy smokes. I still have my LT-48. Top weight, side weight, and 14 lbs. It's a spare ball these days.
That’s awesome!! Is it the rubber one or the rereleased reactive one?
@TheHouseBowling It was from when I was a kid. Around 1980. Def rubber. Also still have a 15lb Bonanza yellow dot and 16lb Columbia blue dot. That was my arsenal.
@@paracentric6188 I still have a yellow dot that I used to shoot spares with when I was kid too. Of course I still have my first U Dot too, which was like my favorite ball ever when I started throwing the ball right. I think they’re both 14 lbs.
The OG Johnny Petraglia LT-48 and the OG Columbia 300 Yellow Dot were my league/tournament arsenal back in 1982 during my last years of youth bowling! Love the content!!
Thanks Jeffrey! Love making some fun stuff and spreading my love of the game on here!
The LT48 remaineds me of a black hammer. And the thumping down the lane😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hey, the Columbia "Yellow-Dot" was the go-to ball in it's days! Holds a special place in my bowling career. I remember the feeling of having a new Yellow Dot and showing it off on league night. And as for the "hip" bowlers, they not only had the Yellow-Dot, they also had in their bag the Columbia "White-Dot" for spares! As for the Johnny Petraglia LT-48? IT also holds a spot on that memory list.
I had an LT-48 back in the day when I bowled all the time.
Grew up with an Lt-48 in the YABA leagues
Bought a nice one drill at the thrift store for $10 a month ago just because
Old school black bowling balls, love to see it
In old Mountain lanes, there is an undrilled LT-48 in the shop that they found in the back which I thought was crazy. And I always want to know what it looks like going down modern-day lanes, and now I finally got my answer. thanks packy
Very Interesting 5-10 Conversion!!
May dad used that C300 ball...in the 80's ;-)
Omg the $1 ball used to be my spare ball back in the day when I bowled 😂
LT-48 was a sensation when it was new, the först ball that swetted out the oil.
I had an old columbia yellow dot and shot 99 5 years ago at Sunset Station in Las Vegas. It hit the pocket and was weak. Family thought it was me. Then I got a new yellow dot and bowled 200+. Proved my point!
i loved my LT 48'S...i had 3 of them
Cool video talk tech bowling bowling ball packy
Carl needs a 500 grit makeover.
Awesome video. I have a brand new, undrilled Columbia Black Night ball that i got for $5 at a garage sale, and i have no idea what to do with it or what it's worth. My online research says its from 1967 - 1987 but i'm not exactly sure.
Haven’t been on the channel but would love to lol
I used to have the petraglia lt48 as a kid .
Clearly one of the Balls of all time.
Threw my Johnny Petraglia tonight. It's the new one though, damn good ball. Melee core but hooks like an asym.
Splits on string pins are a totally different game. Unreal.
Hey packy my grandpa has a bowling ball back when he bowled local leagues in the 90's and he gave it to me since he can't bowl anymore. I should mail it to you so that you and Ryan can try it 😂
I still have my LT48 I used 40 years ago. I tried to use it a couple years ago, couldn’t get it to hook for me. I’m 65 now so maybe in 20 years when I can only throw it 6mph I try it again.
My sense of how much i should pay for a bowling ball was already messed up in the first place, because i live in Malaysia the cost for bowling is 4x more when compared to the US.
Im working as a fresh grad design engineer, with around 48k MYR per year, in the US with the same job is $48k per year too, so its pretty much a 1 to 1 comparison in salary.
But 1USD = ~4MYR, so a $300 bowling ball is equivalent to $1200 in Malaysia, even my Rhino Magenta cost me MYR 700(including the drill and inserts)
i love the sport and im lucky to be educated enough to earn enough money and play in the sport so im happy with what i have now 👍
The LT-48 was revolutionary just as the yellow dot was. Difference is you can find old yellow dots, you just can’t find rubber anymore.
for us overseas people the entry price for a new reactive or urethane ball is about 250 bucks, so the most id probably spend is about 500 dollars due to shipping
I love u packy
In Finland atm, you have to pay like 369 Euros (like 400$) for the most expensive bowlingball but they range from 200-369€
Packy, "Carl" is a Yelllow Dot - it's plactic (polyester)...of course it won't hook! I have a Yellow Dot from 1987.
I have had a Johnny since I bought it in the military back in 86 I kept playing it up wouldn't do anything but the way they were oiling the lines.
Actually, one league champions once with it. 2000. I've decided to keep it 1 day. It'll be in the yard sale when I'm dead.
Perhaps you don't count it because it was on the "Extras" channel, or maybe you filmed this before the latest ball tournament video, but you did pick up a 4-6 with 2-balls on that video just recently, with the editor's note that he couldn't believe you actually made it. :)
You got it, that one was filmed after this one was. Packy redeemed himself lol
$250 max. And it better fill a hole in the bag, at minimum.
Edit: “$300 for a Black Widow Purple.”
Wow. Very surprised to hear that. Have one undrilled I’d like to unload (I paid $200 new for it).
I should have never gotten rid of my LT48, had an open play 800 with it in the late 70's and I took me 30 years to Bowl a sanctioned 800.
I remember watching Johnny Petraglia in his prime when I was a kid.
Wondering if anyone could help me, just looking for an estimate, but i have a used, drilled, 14 pound, johnny petraglia LT-48 and was wondering what that would be worth.
You should try testing the balls on different speeds like in other videos also Johnny petraglia? Can you do others? But I can’t complain. It is a 1,000 ball
I started bowling with an Ebonite rubber ball and it would hook as much as I wanted it to.
The Mr Beast of Bowling lol
Could the brands of Brunswick formulate a rubber ball to fit today's game? Just image the hype.
Packy did you put a left handed layout on Carl? How come it consistently sounds like you are rolling over a finger?
I have one....drilled once to my span...was a very good ball back in the day. I bought it brand new if that tells you how old I am...LOL
My best score is 169 on reactive. so a pba pro on carl is a good handicap. We need PBA pro with carl vs regular joe to be a whole series.
1:05 ur face look like a villain character🤣🤣
I remember a conversation I had with someone years ago when bowling balls first hit $200 -- "If they kept bowling balls at $99, we'd all own 30-50 of them..."
Carl is the cat of bowling balls. Will absolutely do the opposite you want it to do.
It's crazy bowling bags cost more than balls these days!
Bags are impossible to get too I feel like! 😅
I still have my old LT-48!
Was that Legend a 16 pound bowling ball? It hit like a 10 pounder.
16 yup lol
Packy you’re my goat
I just checked on eBay for the prices on the Johnny p lt48 bowling ball the the most expensive one that I seen was going for over $1300can Nevertheless a great video as always my good man please keep them coming and remember to always keep your balls on the lane and your pin in the gutter lol.
I have an old used LT-48 in my barn attic, but I doubt it’s worth a $1,000, lol.
how expensive is too expensive? any high end motiv ball (aka any ball that is $180 or more)
With drilling, tips, etc.. I'm usually paying about 220ish for a top-end ball. I could do 250 if there's something special about the ball. We're talking about a new and current ball, not rare or antique.
I wish pba bowling would bring back the gold bowing pins when they bowl on tv
The most I'll ever spend on a ball is going to depend on my skill level, the performance attributes of the ball in question, and my needs regarding any gaps in my arsenal. Right now, I wouldn't go over around $150. As I get good enough to use better balls, that price ceiling will increase accordingly.
That makes sense but you are saying you are willing to buy 3 150 balls rather than just 1 250.00. My mindset is just buy the good one and save. But I get mine from garage sales lol
@@GarageSaleMonster at the moment, yes. I don't yet have the skill needed to make effective use of a $250 ball. However, the three balls would each behave differently and be used in different conditions. So I'd really be buying 3 $150 balls instead of 3 $250 balls.
Well its not really about your skill level, or whatever your average happens to be... just because Bowler A is "better" than Bowler B, that doesn't mean that he "needs", or will automatically benefit from more exspensive equipment. In fact, it can just as easily be the opposite. The type of physical game you have and the conditions you bowl on are of far greater significance... particularly your rev rate and ball speed. The "top shelf"/ high price balls tend to be the stronger core/cover pieces on the market... and depending on your game, those might never be the best choices for you, no matter what your average is. I'm a low/mid rev guy 300, maybe 325 rpm if I really hit it at the bottom, with ball speed around 17 mph, currently averaging ~225 on house shots. The strongest and most expensive stuff on the shelf is generally too strong for the conditions I bowl on most of the time... the solids burn up too early and flat-10, and the shinier strong stuff is usually too over/under. They're just not the best choices for my game... so I don't buy 'em. Use what works...
I need a new ball but since I am going up on pounds of the ball I am choosing not buy a new one until I know I am not going up agian. I am going from a 10 to a 12. I also think it depends on where u get your ball from on how much it cost
It’s really weird seeing Packy have such difficulty with a ball that I’ve thrown strikes with… as by comparison I suck.
The block letters on the $1,000 ball is what makes it expensive. The rest of the Lt-48s are a dime a dozen.
I may be on crack, but I seem to remember a rubber ball from a long time ago that had some type of wood chips in it. They acted as a type of particle ball.
I’d probably pay $300 for an original 15 pound Track Critical Mass.
Brunswick , please release a Johnny Petraglia LT48 ! My first bowling ball .
I cringed at 79 for my Blue hammer back in the day. Now its 149 and Im still cringing. But Id like to get back into it and the NU Blue is attracting me.
250 including the drilling
Gotta wheel it up 5 and come around that $1 ball
The last LT 48 I had was $48 LOL
400 for me if it was a ball from my early childhood like the og black widow solid ( already have one I got for free) , a zero gravity I got for 20 bucks , if it was the hammer emerald vibe, taboo jet black, backlash red and purple, faball enterprise blue pearl hammer urethane, faball enterprise pink hammer , the invasion, the hell raiser revenge, the Lt 48 reactive, the visionary slate blue gargoyle ( hard urethane awesome ball ) , granite gargoyle ( hook monster ), the green gargoyle, the crimson executioner .
If you told me a $1000 ball could retain performance for a lifetime and its the best ever Shape and motion. I would buy it.
Should of tried the $1 ball up 3 or 5 board .
Welcome to the 70's and early 80's. When the game was 90% accuracy and 10% revs and ball power. Today, it is just the opposite.
Hey Packy is wiping a ball off really a big deal? what would you say or do if the PBA said you can NEVER wipe the oil off your bowling ball while in a PBA tournament? would your change balls often or would you work with the oil on your ball? me, I wrapped my ball with the see saw bowling towel & put it in the ball return after I see sawed it so it would be wrapped until its my turn to bowl on league of 5 men. to me wiping the oil off the ball does ZERO for me? it makes no different to my bowling.
