Talk shows are difficult to keep their ratings high. The host will need to have lots of freebies, giveaways and be funny. It's not easy for the ratings to rise. There is a talk show for Sherri and now Jennifer Hudson. Let's see...

Not only was her elimination sad, but Jennifer, Fantasia & LaToya being the BOTTOM 3 that night was one of the biggest “WTF” moments in Idol history to me.

I remembered when she got eliminated on American Idol after she sang the heck out of Barry Manilow Weekend in New England. Look at her now. Incredible talent!!!

I was about to say…that is one of my favorite performances from all seasons. And hers especially. Don’t get me wrong, I too loved circle of life, baby I love you, etc…but I had never heard “WINE” before and after she saaaaaang it, Chile!!!!! I was irritating my whole family for months singing it around the house. Lol. Simon need to sit down be humble. 😜

Let's not forget, during the beginning of her career, the situation with her sister, brother in law, and nephew. To keep on pushing through... the resilience is amazing. One of the most successful contestants, ever.

I can still remember the night Jennifer was eliminated from American Idol and how upset and angry I was. I’m so glad that despite all the challenges she’s faced, she never gave up on herself. It’s ironic that she has far surpassed most of the other American Idol contestants and winners. I truly hope her TV show does well. God bless you Jennifer!

She sung the hell outta “Weekend in New Zeeland” and it stretched and showed the depth of her voice! It was so soulful before all the training for broadway! That voice is what we loved! She didn’t win Idol because it wasn’t going to allow her to grow to the levels that her voice would take her !

Jennifer’s season was amazing, there were so many strong contestants. I was 10 years old back then but I still remember George Huff, Latoya London, Diana Degarmo, Jasmine Trias… so many great contestants. Jennifer’s elimination was devastating but she handled it like a champ and made an even bigger name for herself than winning Idol could have ever given her.

Her rendition of Weekend in New England was amazing! I think people just took for granted she’d go on. Having said that, she was still a bit raw and didn’t have the polish and control that would develop later. Still, when one door closes, Jhud breaks down another and wins herself an Oscar!

CRYINGGGGG. I remember those days! We voted like hell for her but we also loved fantasia and latoya london! I also thought Diana Degarmo was really sweet and likeable but JHuds elimination was such a shocker. Will NEVER forget that “I made it through the rain” performance they did (latoya, fantasia and jennifer). We recorded it on videotape LITERALLY (vcr). It was the biggest season ever. Man those were the sweet days. Im so proud to see her getting those blessings. Yesss come thru EGOT winner and congrats on your show! I love her positive mindset. You go girl!

Nice to see this sit down, who is in charge of choosing the weeks and what is sung, overall J.H. year was and incredible year, and her talent can't be compared she is unique.
What I wished (not to late) they (Fantasia, LeToya, & Jennifer) would have released as a single is “ I made through the rain” they sang it in the medley in the finale OMG!!! Those 3 killed it in such a short amount of time.

JHUD kind of confirms Simon’s point. Because I look back at those old performances and she wasn’t at her best. She looked less comfortable on stage for example. And Simon knew that which is why he wasn’t as impressed. And she just said here she wasn’t choosing the best songs, particularly at the beginning. So it was never anything personal. She was starting to hit her stride the last two weeks or so before she was eliminated, so that’s why her elimination sucks. Yes, she always had the voice, but it’s not just about that. She didn’t come across as a star at that point, and she grew into it.
@The Return it ain’t BS. If you also remember she was on the same season as Fantasia. Both of them could sing but one was ready for the spotlight at that moment and the other one wasn’t. That’s it. It’s not a conspiracy here.

I’ve always disagreed with Simon that it was a bad song that got her eliminated. The arrangement suited her and showed her power. I think people took for granted she’d have tons of votes so they didn’t call in.

I live in the Chicagoland area, and I remember the day before Jennifer hudson was eliminated there was a major storm in the Chicago area, that knocked out power to many. I believe that is the main reason she was eliminated so early in the competition.
