  • The Löwenburg in Kassel is a fairytale castle a pleasure palace in Park Wilhelmshöhe. It was built between 1793 and 1801 by Heinrich Christoph Jussow, the court architect of Landgrave Wilhelm IX, as an artificial castle ruin. First, it served Landgrave Wilhelm IX of Hesse-Kassel as a personal retreat and after his death in 1821 as the last resting place. In terms of art history, the complex is interesting, as it was one of the earliest important neo-Gothic buildings in Germany.
The Castle had already bombed several times and was largely destroyed in second World War. Its is currently under restoration.
