- You asked for more DIY and MORE SIMON, so this week we deliver! The handpainted tiles are installed by Ash & Terry @chateaudelalacelle and they show us the finished result! We are making progress on the Master Bedroom, but have serious challenges with the ancient electricity wires. Christmas is coming, so I'm hard at work buying and adding beautiful pieces of antique and vintage jewelry to my website, www.chateau-love.com, and we celebrate a beautiful Thanksgiving with friends in Paris.

Hello! I’m Vivienne, the châtelaine of a small 19th century neo-Renaissance castle in the Loire Valley of France, which I share with my delightful (and wonderfully funny!) husband, Simon, our daughter, and -whenever possible- lovely friends and family.
This is not our first chateau! 23 years ago, we bought a much larger castle nearby, which we loved with all our hearts. However, nearly 2 decades, many happy memories, countless renovations, and several small fortunes later, we made the very difficult, empty-nesting decision to downsize. With great luck and perseverance, we found our current petit château, which we are now decorating and updating with love, humour, comfort, and -of course- antiques and art!
We adore France and its many unique facets: its people, culture, landscapes, wine, food, art, and history. We also love being surrounded by châteaux, both public and private, which we can explore together! After 20 years here, we have learned many things about living in France, renovating châteaux, and appreciating the extraordinary riches surrounding us. We originally decided to make these videos as a way to share our lives with our loved ones worldwide during the pandemic lockdowns. However, we soon realised that many others are at home alone, and it is our privilege to open our home to you, our new friends. We hope you will join us on our adventures in this exceptional location, and we look forward to sharing a little Château Love!

Today my 97 year old mother passed away. Your video, as always gave me joy, inspiration and stimulation. You never know how we touch others. Thank you for the solace you gave me today! ❤
My sincere condolences to you and family. 97 is a long life, my mum is 97 and thankfully is able to live in her own home, cook and clean too. My brother lives close by but I’m across the other side of country. Not looking forward to the day I get the call.

no kidding about lungs. i worked in dusty chocolate factory... my lungs kept the chocolate particles.

Vivienne, you did a masterful job on the Lalacelle tiles for Terry and Ash. Simon, you managed to save the ceiling medallion while making the electrics safe again. Good job all around.
Oh Simon you should have worn a respirator, that is very hard on your lungs. The same for anyone else in the room. That's a lot of work, but I know that it will turn out magnificent.

We have a 123-year-old home that we have been working on for the last 2-1/2 years here in the States. Putting on spackle is fun, but sanding it off is a nightmare! Vivienne you are so talented!
Try wiping down with warm water & sponge.

The tiles you painted look so beautiful in the shower room and I viewed the shop to see all the amazing things you’ve posted there. Simon is doing an incredible job but I wish he wasn’t breathing in all that old plaster-he needs to protect his lungs, you all do🙂The walls and ceiling are looking so good.

I was worried about Simon's plaster removal and sanding because he wasn't wearing a mask. Probably not good to inhale that nasty dust. Next time I suggest a mask, please. The room is shaping up nicely. Can't wait to see how you paint and decorate. The save on the ceiling plaster decoration was brilliant.

It's going to look so good with those wires to the chandelier hidden. I know in some other Chateau's I also follow, they've had no choice but to leave conduit exposed in a couple of places, and I always notice it. What you did with the ceiling rose was inspired. Unless you know it's there, you'll never see those wires!

Such a daunting task to remove all the paper and everything else that goes with remodeling any room but especially old chateaux.
Please wear masks as I could see mold I think in that bedroom behind the paper and Simon no mask but at least eye protection.

Dust in the lungs is not good especially when there may be questionable materials/chemicals/mold. Using a shop vac with a HEPA filter while cutting is also super helpful. Stay safe DIYers! Love your work!
Also to note if your “dreadful cold” happened to start a day or two after inhaling the dust particulate that May emphasize my concern for your health and proper protective equipment. With only kindest regards and concern!

I love you guys! ❤ And I watch all of your fascinating videos. 😊 Simon needs to wear a good mask when taking off chunks of plaster. That old plaster dust can contain a multitude of substances that can cause serious long term respiratory problems. Safety first!

(Excuse my English) That silver book marker contains the late Portuguese royal coat of arms. The current flag still features the 7 castles on it! And our last queen, Amélia de Orleães (1865 - 1951), who also happens to be French) went to France for exile and lived the rest of her life there at chateau de Bellevue in Chesnay.

The ornate plaster medallion: if you have to remove it? Use dental impression material(slicon tow part mix) to replicate the area before you cut into it. It will save you from trying to find another that is not made anymore.

I would put the bed back where it was originally. Also, maybe you could find a wallpaper design with a tiny amount of the fireplace color in it just to tie it in.

Hello from South Florida. My idea: Destroy only the part of the ceiling rose that you need to in order to run the electricity. Make a casting of the portion of the ceiling rose that matches the destroyed area and cement it in place. Carol at Chateau de le Ferte did this in her living room to replace lost molding bits. Terry at Lalacelle also has experience in casting molding. Good luck
