  • The Volkswagen T-Roc: it's the German brand's take on the small SUV. It's got striking looks and comes in a range of eye-catching colour combinations both inside and out - but does it have the substance to match the style? I find out in this in-depth review.

    Really surprised by the interior plastics. Usually every single VW has soft touch on the dashboard and upper doors. Although I must say it is pointless having a soft touch dashboard since you don't drive around touching it. It is more important to have soft touch plastics on the upper door perhaps where you would rest your arm or lower down by your leg where it touches the center panel.

    • @sic22l
      @sic22l Před 6 lety +48

      VW says they did it on purpose because they didn't want T-Roc to compete with Golf. But they just went too far, interior quality is much worse than in the Polo.
      Soft touch plastics do matter everywhere - they look better, they're less reflective, they don't rattle or squeak and on the upper doors you may actually touch them.

    @rudyardharrison4177 Před 3 lety +7

    Yes, a very helpful and to the point review. Thanks Matt. Regarding rough road capability, I've noticed that the T-Roc has relatively minimal ground clearance, in fact less than the T-Cross. I think that I understand VW's rationale but potential buyers need to be aware of this limitation.

    The interior quality is definitely something that hasn’t been touched upon properly with the motoring press and MQB-based cars. My Mk7.5 Golf interior quality is noticeably less plush than the Mk6 and Mk5 that I’ve experienced in the past - same for my parents’ Octavia RS230. The Tiguan is particularly bad and feels quite cheap - yet the Kodiaq doesn’t feel anywhere near as cheap, and has much better sound insulation and manages to feel much less hollow than other MQB-based cars.

    Took one of these out for a test drive this week and I was very surprised at the interior quality. Yes it feels well built and screwed together but I'm coming from a 11 year old Ford Focus which was much more comfortable and has a better quality dashboard.
    I thought it wouldn't bother me because who even touches the dashboard but what I found was that with the hard plastic dashboard I got a lot more reflections bouncing back up into the windscreen which made it hard to see sometimes.
    I also could not believe that even the range topping SEL does not and cannot have lumbar support! When you feel the side of the chair you can feel a hole where the lumbar adjustment should be but isn't and isn't even available.
    There was also a rattle coming from the door which was irritating not good considering the car had done 184 miles.

      Must be an oddity for uk spec, I'm in New zealand and a vw tech and they all have lumbar support here, I'm sitting in a brand new tcross right now and that has lumbar. We get uk spec touaregs come through for prep and they are much worse specced than their new zealand new counterparts.

      T R - "Worst Volkswagen interior", i think you judge this car based only by some pieces of hard plastic because in the rest functionality and tech inside is the same as good as any other Volkswagen model and to show you how wrong you are again Volkswagen boss say in an interview from Geneva that the R-Line of this T-Rock which will be available from june this year gets an extra feature (optional pack) that cover the hard pieces bits of interior in leather so, your sensible girl hands will not feel those rough surfaces..
