[SAMSUNG GALAXY WATCH 4 CLASSIC REVIEW]
The Galaxy Watch 4 is the most significant change to Samsung smartwatches since 2016. It’s built on new silicon, running a new OS, with a new user interface to boot. But Samsung has done a lot of work to make this Galaxy Watch feel like the three that came before it … and for better or worse, it’s mostly worked. Join Michael Fisher for the MrMobile review of the world’s first Wear OS 3-powered smartwatch: the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic!

Man, the gripes about battery life, software interface, and app issues, reminds me of how Pebble was such a joy to use. It also makes me wonder how competitive an option they'd be if they were still around today, and what improvements they would have made to Pebble watches.
I miss pebble
Can't agree with this reply more. I've tried *all the smart watch platforms... Seriously, pretty much every OS and main device out there. I was doing things with my Pebble Steel watch *years ago that we still don't get in many devices today. It's crazy to me that we've gone backwards in features like this.
I miss my Pebble Time so much! It was great for what it was and the 5 days of battery life I was getting on it was unmatched.
If you want great battery life get a mi band , downside to that it's not nearly as advanced , I've had a peble for a while though, it was nice
Too true. 1 day battery life for a watch is a deal breaker despite how cheap or expensive it is, I want at least _a week_ on Full brightness. OEMs need to bring back the Hybrid E-Ink + IPS display that could last for days sipping on battery. Battery life is why I gave up on smartwatches and reverted back to fitness watches.

Bixby: "F*** You"
Another informative and well produced video. I've said it many times and I'll say it again, Michael puts it the work and obviously takes a lot of pride in the content he puts out. Which is why I will always take the time to watch his videos even if it's a device I'm not looking into or planning on purchasing. Excellent video as always @MrMobile!
Really appreciate that; thank you!
Couldn't have put it any better, 😁. Mr. Mobile is the go to guy for such content.
Here Here!!
Everytime I watch a Michael fisher video I wonder why Cristopher Nolan is directing smartphone videos.
Couldn't agree more...Michael Fischer is my favorite tech CZcamsr
A shout out from a storyteller who knits a well woven yarn and actually understands and has love for a good timepiece? I'm honored. Thanks! 🙏🏿
I skipped the Classic and picked up the base model in 44mm. You're right, the included watch bands are terrible! Sadly no rotating bezel either but for $279 I can't be too angry. Awesome review bro!
Thanks for coming out, man! Enjoy that watch; no shame in a virtual bezel! 🤣
I read that the virtual rotating bezel is inferior to one on Active 2 because it doesn't work on edge of screen. True?
I got a $15 stainless steel 20mm band... fit and looks great
Same here. Got 46mm and band is terrible. Any aftermarket band without gap between band and watch?
@@ymmp30 Unlike the Active 2, the screen is completely flat (so no rounded edges). This makes the virtual rotating bezel harder to use. I've been thinking about disabling it for this reason.
I received my Watch 4 40mm 2 weeks ago and I’m in love with it. Yeah it’s still new and I would say that’s why it’s exciting ! There’s a lot to come in the future to enhence user experience given Samsung is a global brand that knows how to make good smartwaches. You’re right MrMobile, the original strap is a nightmare to take out and put back and the piece that fills the corners is not great and it reduces the flexibility of the band, especially on smaller wrists like mines but it fits me. I like to switch band, from a brown leather one for a more elegant look to a silicone one when I go swimming several times a week. I went for the Watch 4 with the digital royating bezel coming from an OG Watch Active that I traded-in and I’m used to rotating my finger around the screen and I wanted the smallest watch possible and the Watch 4 is it. I’m waiting for more apps but one thing I got to admit is I love the Shazam app to quickly, without taking out your phone, identify a song. Thanks for your review ans I hope you’ll make some more videos on the evolution of this new OS and its new releases of apps.
"those have their own complications" loved that subtle pun!
Very glad you mentioned how much better 22mm straps look, how much more they're available, and how inexplicable it is that Samsung went with 20mm straps even for the bigger models.
I love the topics and that's also a reason I'm watching this channel, but I cannot get over the fact what a fun and pro crafts these videos are.
Yeah that's why I just watched this video despite not giving a single shit about smart watches and having no interest in every buying one. Michael still makes the video interesting with his high quality work.
Your videos are so well made I watch reviews of products I have no intention of buying
Hey, this watch is really making me see a future where wear os , doesn't suck.
It's just a one ui with just a few not a lot google apps
@@notpk6727 It'll still make a lot of app developers jump onto the platform and develop for Wear OS. Hopefully Google takes Wear OS more seriously and update the software as well.

Love my GW4 Classic, upgrading from the original GW.... This things a beast 💪🏼
Great review, as always!
But what's that intro song? Had me hooked from the get go
Turned on notifications as I'd stopped seeing your videos popup. Thanks CZcams. Always a fair and detailed review and you're saying all the things I've been thinking since buying and using the GW4. Sadly I don't often see the same honesty from other Tech reviewers. Keep up the great work MM!
I like the idea of a smartwatch and I've owned one in the past but after years of improvements, they still look bulky and have a ton of shortcomings (a big one is battery life). The best ones I've seen are hybrid watches that look & function like regular ones, have super long battery life and also give you some smartwatch-like features such as notifications and fitness tracking. Nice review though 😁
While I've seen other reviews for the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, *this* is the one I was waiting for as Michael's reviews are always informative and well produced. I have already pre-purchased one as a replacement for a Galaxy Watch S3 Frontier, which has itself been a very good watch for me over the last number of years. Now to find some decent bands...
YEAH, ON POINT 🔥❤️❤️👍
s3 frontier is great when it comes to battery life
I just had a look in the Samsung store
The rotating bezel feels really nice to use on the Classic, but in my admittedly limited hands on time I wonder if tapping and swiping the touchscreen of the standard Watch4 might feel better as it doesn't have that recessed screen / protruding bezel.
Both watches do look and feel great though... except for the straps
Having had both, the classic feels a lot more natural to use. The bezel also protects the screen which got quite scuffed on my watch4.
Well Mr. Fisher, I just want to say thank you. You never fail to deliver informative but entertaining (and yes, FUN) videos. You cover the good and the bad, throw in your opinions and perspectives, but keep it relatable and engaging. And the overall feel and style you bring every time is just another reason I keep watching. But my favourite part, and has been for years, is the very genuine closing tag of “Stay mobile, my friends”. So yes, this is just a thank you. I know these vids take a lot of time and effort, and I for one, appreciate it very much!
TRUE WORD'S MAN ❤️❤️👍😍🔥🔥❤️
I do like that it's not locked down to Tizen anymore. Of course, this has pros and cons. I love the new fitness features (coming from a Gear S3 Classic) so it's a huge improvement for me. I hope that's true about the Google Assistant!
As always, this is the review that I was looking forward to seeing the most 😊
A balanced, honest review 🙌 Why is this so hard to find on CZcams?!
As I've mentioned in my previous comments, I like the personality you bring to these reviews making them not just another generic rundown of specs. Why I'm commenting to say the same thing again ? For visibility purposes, because you deserve way more subscribers than you do. Keep up the good work. Always appreciate it 👍🏻

I got the Watch4 44mm, overall happy with it.
My gripes so far:
-Agreed the strap is pretty junk and sticks out and is lower in quality compared to the Apple silicone strap.
-The Samsung pay button is not remappable to Google pay, you have to re-map the back button. This is typical Samsung.
-When you upload music to the watch like a playlist, for some reason instead of it keeping your desired order of tracks it puts the tracks in the playlist in alphabetical order which is annoying.
-The handling of some of the notifications on the watch can be a bit janky
-The raise to wake can also be a bit hit and miss.
-The included charging lead is way too short
None of the above are deal breakers for me and I am hoping it be addressed with updates. Fitness tracking, and overall user experience is good and I am happy with the purchase.
I have the galaxy watch 4. I just plop it on my 10,000 mAh portable power bank or a free wireless charger duo I got with the purchase of my watch (both from Samsung)
Can you install CZcams on it?
@@A.N.A8 Not as far as I am aware.
@@A.N.A8 I've seen CZcams videos on how to install CZcams. I haven't done it myself
@@A.N.A8 I have CZcams on my fossil watch which is wear os, it suck, the app is third party, not from Google and you have to pay for premium
This has the potential to be a great partnership, depending on how they play their cards.
Thank u for ur hard work on producing this very informative clip. Me, I also hold off of buying this new model after owning previous Galaxy Watch 46mm and.... charging it every evening was annoying despite all bells & whistles. That is why i moved to Huawei and im happy w at least 11-12 days of use w/o charging w all sensors on.
@7:00 love this music. Great video Michael 👍🏾
I just got the this watch and loved it except for the horrible battery life. my solution?
i got a second one.
I bought one used for 150, and just ordered a second one refurbished for 100.
i figured that i can take one to work, then leave the other one charging. come home, swap them, then repeat.
250 bucks for 2 watches? seems fine to me. i also got the chrome one (which looks awesome with a stainless band, but gives my arm limited mobility) for work, and the black one with the black sports band for home, the gym, and to wear while sleeping for sleep tracking.
if anyone finds this comment in the future and wants an update on how things worked out, i'd be happy to respond.
When I picked up the Watch 4 Classic, I immediately sideloaded the Fossil Watch faces, and they work amazingly well! I honestly hated the included band so I was glad I ordered a different one from amazon.
It's a standard 22mm band right?
@@planetphatness 20 mm
Brilliant video. Hope all reviewers detail out like you do, mentioning stuff apart from the specs/
This is the first proper review I have seen for the Watch 4 series. There have been a bunch of complaints all over about the battery life and watch band, but so far I didn't read/see a review highlight those issues.
I just got my Flip 3, Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Buds today and I can't wait to test them myself!!! I'm in love with all 3 products

Having a smart watch being capable of media control, fitness monitoring, being able to talk and text, having to charge once a day is fine. (Even though Apple and Samsung trained us for this) Any other watch that offers the same capabilities of the Samsungs and Apple watches are not that great with integration into any ecosystem and you end up losing out on a ton of useful stuff tied to your phone. Unless you get a Garmin well above and beyond the price point of these.
I'm surprised we're still using LED screens on watches. I think that e-paper would be far better suited to this application.
If a watch's battery can't last more than a day, then every promised sleep monitor feature is a lie.
@@gormauslander rip pebble (similar to eink, iirc)
Consider fitbit Versa3 , it does all that + battery lasts 7days
My Garmin Instinct lasts 2 weeks and was $350… I tried the Fenix 6 but it annoyed me, so back to my Instinct. Unlike most, I guess I don’t like my watches bugging me constantly lol. Returned 2 Apple watches and the Galaxy Watch 4 (non-classic).
Mine 46mm classic should arrive tomorrow or next day. I can't wait. I also got my tic watch pro 3 today so I can't wait to compare them.
THAT'S NICE ❤️❤️👍❤️
Great review as usual from @MrMobile! Is there any chance you'll be posting an update in a few months? I was going to pick one up but now I've heard your thoughts I'll definitely be waiting.
Hey @mrmobile, Your watch faces look fantastic. Did you make those using something like Facer, or are they downloaded from somewhere?
I guess I'll stick with my Fossil Gen5. The classic looks really nice, shame about the straps, but I can wait till the new OS and apps are improved.
I've got my Samsung watch 4 (not classic) and it's damn perfect. They finally got it right.
What about the battery?
I know this came out like 8 months ago, but I got my GSW 4 Classic 46mm yesterday and I love it. I went from the 3. I ONLY got the classic because of the bezel pretty much. My hands have crap on them a lot and it's easier to manage and you get a large screen. Mine works wonderfully and since it's new, i'm 36 hours in from the first charge, I have 36% battery left, I've been using it a lot and messing with it and I only have the stupid features that are an obvious waste of battery off. Constant stress monitoring, heart rate every 10 minutes, blood oxygen level, etc... I'm going to enjoy this long batter as long as I can, but in 14 hours, the watch has only lost 7% battery. Pretty crazy and suspectr.
I got my 46mm watch 4 classic the day of release and have been loving it as an upgrade from my active 2, I even find the band to fit my wrist better, it keeps the watch in place without needing to be super tight like with the active 2 band.
I guess that's one reason for the band design. For me though it just makes the fit awkward and not very comfortable.
Since my GearS2, I am still waiting for the day when Android watches do all you'd expect on a mini smartphone strapped to your wrist. This is finally a promising step. One or two more years to get there and I'll join the wagon again; after your approval that is👌
Can you do a re-review of this its almost been a year. your the only source i trust
Thanks for telling me that "tiles" is just another name for widgets. Other reviewers just say tiles and expect you to know what that means. Thumbs up, subscribed. Thanks for the info.
By the way, you're my favorite reviewer when it comes to classic cellphones and even modern ones.
I pre-ordered this. Traded in my fossil gen 5. I haven't looked back. I love the new watch.

Been clinging to my Gear S3 for years now since I haven't really seen one I need to upgrade to yet. I love Tizen, but the lack of google apps/watchfaces is a downer. This watch was looking promising, but I was hoping wear was more ironed out by now.. My last experience with wear were fine but...definitely not without issue. Tizen has been really solid in contrast
I still have the original 2018 Galaxy Watch. Works well and still full 3-day battery life, which is crazy after 3 years.
I've got a gear s3 classic also and still use it most days, it would just be much better if I had more Google apps like Google pay CZcams etc.
@@nickmotsarsky4382 I still like Original Galaxy watch but Samsung gave $100 trade in for it + got Galaxy buds2 for $45 and my military discount so I pulled the trigger on it. As others not happy with the band but was planning on getting the extreme sports band. Not happy with Bixby. I can't even send a text with it and don't care for the change with black background on notifications. I'm thinking well hoping in a few months the 4 will be a great watch.
Very nice video Michael, appreciate your hard work! Btw I noticed that you didnt post a video about the apple watch series 6. Do you have any plans for that? Cheers
Nice review. Had my 46 mm silver bluetooth since Aug.26th and agree that the watch band "sucks". Still looking for a metal band that fits and figuring how to get some "free" watch faces that I might settle on. Maybe a tachymeter bezel too to cover the bland one.
I think they can work on more optimization to improve the battery life

Was waiting on this vid. Your reviews never disappoint. It's a shame the Galaxy Watch 4 does. For months I was looking forward to this watch, almost daily checking for news updates about it even. I was really hoping for a 4 day battery life when just using the phone as an extension of your phone. Which is for media control, notifications, and always displaying the time. It's a shame that there are no circular watches with also a rotating bezel that have that. Maybe Galaxy Watch 5?
Thank you for this video, I was on the fence on whether getting this or not, now I'll wait a bit more for patch updates.
It's disappointing to see that even after half a decade, smartwatches still aren't as great as they could be and I think this is mainly because not many people are willing to spend 200$+ on a watch.
if it was a watch... but thats consumer tech, with the expected 2-4 year life cycle, and people SHOULDNT pay upwards of $300 for a very nieche featureset in a watch destined to be electronic waste within a few years
The health and fitness features of this watch are what makes it worth getting. Been using it for about 5 days now and it works great. Battery life isn't the greatest though, like he pointed out.
The main reason I don't use it because it gets bored and kinda show off for people after 6- 7 months. And who wants to charge there watch daily when I use it only for time
Take a look at a Garmin. My sister has a descent mk2i (diving) smartwatch, and she says it makes her Apple watch look like an expensive toy. So many features and it is extremely smart
Half a decade later and I still don't see the point for me to buy a smartwatch, because most of the features on it can be done on the phone.
This channel is like no other. As someone put it - It's not about tech reviews - it's about narrating stories. For years now, I keep coming back for more.
Awesome review, Can I have the links for the background music please.
I'm supposed to be getting mine from Amazon in a week or so. Pre orders were sold out and at first they told me my delivery date was October, now we're looking at early September. Great review as always
That thing about "sent a photo" isn't something to do with the watch. It's how FB Messenger handles photo notifications 😑
Taking for a spin would be an understatement when they are the ones giving life to wear os.
Even the wear os section of the play store was buried until this debuted! Now front n center lol
Pretty clever how you avoided YT Vance's auto commercial removal 🙏

This review makes me pretty happy that I'm still sitting with my S3 Classic. Battery is busted but it still works great for 2.5 days!
The Active 2 band was great!
True! Comfortable and easy to clean
Agreed, love mine
Subbed and liked! One of the dopest reviews I've watched, and I've watched a ton, before I pre-ordered my watch, and even now still watching 😂 🤣. I don't understand everyone complaining about the stock band, because mine fits very well. Not much gap at all, and very comfortabke. My only conclusion would be everyone buying the wrong size(2 small of a wrist obviously) 🤣🤣 Battery life was very minimal first few days, but after battery learned my usage, I get a little over 2 days l, with most features off that I don't need, but heavy Music streaming, Notifications, talking and texting. Oh and the occasional workout here and there. This is my first Galaxy watch coming from Fitbits first Versa line, and I'm very impressed. Great Watch! Looking Forward to what's next! I see a lot of open ends here!
Great review 👍🏼. Any idea if the Samsung health monitor will be available for non-Samsung androids in the future, so the longsome workaround that's available now, won't be necessary?
Thinks it's a big letdown from Samsung and Google to not make it available for other android smartphones, since ECG and blood pressure measurement, which are big features, won't work with non-Samsung smartphones.
5:02 That actually sounds bad if there isn't an option to manually do it, for people that have a lot of apps on the phone, automatically downloading them on to the watch, would mean the watch gets it's storage filled up instantly.
THOUGHTS ON POINT 🔥❤️❤️ SUBSCRIBE
I would be amazed if you can’t turn off certain apps. It’s just auto syncing instead of making you manually do it. I’m 99% certain they just copied the way the Apple Watch handles this
Can we have a postmortem review?

Top notch tech youtuber Mr.Mobile hands down!! Love ur camera work, editing and commentary...it is so darn perfect!!
THIS IS SO TRUE ❤️🔥
the fact that it still can't get close to the first galaxy watch in battery life is just painful, i skipped the 3 because the battery life was just so underwhelming i thought by now they could have a proper successor to the frontier or 46 mm i guess not
Yep, it started in earnest with Galaxy Watch 3. I feel like Samsung probably saw Apple users buying Apple Watches by the truckload despite its one-day battery life, and decided to follow suit, compromising on battery size in order to hit size/price targets. It's a shame.
@@Quagula wow! Can I get a channel link or site to learn more please? 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@TheMrMobile yes ever since Samsung started copying every single strategy from Apple it's been downhill for us veterans. 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Im still hanging for a smart watch developer to make it so I dont have to use the screen. You should be able to do most(not all) by using the available buttons like you can with Garmin. I dont want to touch the screen if i dont have too. Just like I dont with my non smart watches.
Samsung/Google has removed the gesture interaction. This follows a trend of removing the gesture interactions with each successive release of Wear. Meanwhile the Apple Watch has introduced more wrist gestures interaction on the watch in their latest version. It senses your movements and your fingers so that you can interact with more variety, pinching various fingers together will generate various actions, clenching your fist another, and shaking your wrist starts a cursor on the screen that you can steer with tilt.
@@GadgetyMV I was thinking more single/double/long press on the buttons for selecting, entering, back, home, etc...... And crown or bezel for scrolling.
@@lukedudgeon8699 Ah, I see, yes, features that are apparently app dependent. Samsung seems to limit the usage of the buttons to a great degree.

awesome video as always!
Had the Classic 4 LTE for a few weeks now, been fantastic up until today - found my first deal breaker. Finally went out mountain biking, and while listening to Spotify on my Buds and tracking my ride with Samsung health the watch went into flight mode as it overheated. Couldn't use any functions of the watch until it cooled down and was functionally useless and lost my exercise data.
What's worse is I just bought my partner the Apple Watch 7 for their birthday, went through the whole ride without an issue.
Love this watch but it's a massive deal breaker and defeats the main purpose of me buying it - so I can leave my Fold at home and still be contactable in case of emergencies.
Has this issue resolved in an update?
It sounds as though majority of the issues with the watch (apart from the bands and possibly battery life) is software oriented. Hopefully they can be addressed as more people get the watch.
I've got included in my phone deal.
Thank you for assembling this review on the Samsung Watch4. I purchased a Pixel 6A yesterday and also the Samsung Watch4. I am happy with both but a little challenge for this Blackberry Key2 former user.

Hi MrMobile.
Just stumbled across your channel tonight in my eternal search for a new smartwatch. Great reviews.
I'm looking for one that ideally lasts (reliably) for a few days with a bit of use from apps (no exercise tracking lol), notifications and maybe a call or two etc.
Also kinda needs to be a bit robust. For a smartwatch, at least.
I'm looking at the Galaxy 4, Ticwatch Pro 3, Gen 6 Fossils and the Citizen - blame my dad for that, I love Citizen designs is all.
It's my birthday soon and these are all within budget.
What would you recommend?
Thanks :)
Nice video I'm developing for this watch and have to say the google experience is not as good as tizen but as you say time will tell and hopefully the software tools will get batter over time.
