    Slowly working on my wiring. Now after seeing this I may step back and rethink my plan. Everything is good and working just not an tidy as your install. The one thing I did do is replace my anchor light plug with a factory original but I did run some marine wire, like you used and soldered and heat shrieked a splice to the live well. Now I have a small Blue LED for the live well. What a difference when fishing at night. Love this series, great inspiration for my project. Thanks again.

    great job ! the one thing i would suggest in the marine environment is to use electrical grease on every connector thats not inside the cabin , i bought a quicksilver pilot house in 2016 which was a 2014 boat , i used an aerosol grease on every single connector i could find before i used the boat , and up to now ive not had a single electrical problem (8 years later )

    My 2001 AquaSport Osprey looked like that before I rewired it. It's crazy what some people do and the mess they leave. Using electrical tape or wire nuts to splice wires together on a boat, what were they thinking. Now it's all dressed out and looks OUTSTANDING! And now like you say it's reliable, which is the most important thing, and in the event when something goes bad it's easy to change.

    Your workmanship is awesome, mine ehhh. I just rewired my 2006 KW 1720 I wish I had seen your video first before starting, My layout is different and if I had to do it again I would have followed yours to a T because it looks so clean. I could not afford the custom dash and looks nothing like yours but I did with the budget I could afford. I sanded the stainless dash insert and sprayed it with truck bed liner, I hope it lasts. If anything I have learned from yuor videos is PULL ALL OF THE WIRING OUT AND START FRESH. I have had tried to get by with doing the minimal changing of wires but in the end ended up changing everything. A hard lesson learned. Keep up the fantastic work!!!!

I know I have to deal with it but I have been putting it off. Your video has inspired me to make a plan and get to it. One thing that amazes me though is just how much wiring, circuitry and switches there are on small boats. I enjoy the channel and podcast. Any reason you didn’t add a valve to the bait well thru hull? I know didn’t have it fa tory but such a good idea and let’s you swap pump cartridge out on the water if bait well fails and of course close for safety.

      Bro! I didn't even notice that there wasn't shut off valves on either one of those thru-hull fittings! Lol wow! I wonder if that's like a thing on small boats like that, I can't say that I remember how many small boats like that, that I've worked on and ever put any thought into whether or not they have a shut off valve or not.
      It's like one of those things that you overlook because you just think that they all have them, why wouldn't they have shut off valves on the plastic thru-hull fittings that are below the waterline?

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  Před měsícem +1

      Hello George, that's awesome! It's a really nice boat! No worries, we do have a way more in depth guide on how to do the wiring of your boat. From electrical basics to wiring, that is exactly what is in the Boater's Program, there are 90 some course with hundreds of lessons all categorized and organized to make them easy to follow, understand, and searchable. But it's more than just the courses because there is also messaging and what not so you can upload pictures and videos and we do a weekly live stream where we can answer and give any thoughts on whatever you would like to talk about. We just redid the site too so it's way more interactive, it works great on mobile, but our app is still the old site style, so if you are looking only for an app with the courses, it's the old style, but the new site looks great on the phone anyone so the app isn't really necessary. But you can check it out here: www.bornagainboating.com/ Hope this helps and wish you the best of luck with your project! I would just say to figure out how in depth you want to get, BEFORE you start in on the project. That way you can have a game plan and actually get the job done and not just start opening up cans of worms and having an unfinished project that you just keep adding jobs too for years to come ;)

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  Před 25 dny

      Depending on how far the distance was, and are you using LED lights? 20 is definitely light, but, if not too far and using LED then you should be alright, they don't draw much amperage so the wire should be able to handle it. You can always turn them on and leave them on for an hour or 2 and see if the wire gets hot if you are doubting it a lot.

  • @david78212

    I don’t understand what people are thinking. My sailboat has all fairly new wiring on it… all connected with wire nuts. I cannot fathom how someone could possibly think that wire nuts was the way to go in a saltwater environment, it’s baffling to say the least. Not that there is much draw and doubtful that you will ever have every single light on, but the entire boat is wired in series for every single light. Use decent wire to rewire the boat and incredibly fail at every other part of it. Don’t hurt your brain trying to figure out why people did it wrong, just fix it and move on with your life.

    How come you didn’t show the wiring behind the switches? That is my frustration I don’t have this bus bars that you do everything through. I have a rats nest of colored wiring running up to switches with a rubbery fuse nub thing under each one. But the last couple years things have been intermittent and I keep having to go behind and swap things out and test it and it’s getting very messy .
    Do you have a wiring diagram to show how this bus system works?

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  Před měsícem

      Here is more about the panel: czcams.com/video/c-Q3J-GQcjM/video.html
      But as far as a video on CZcams with the actual diagram and break down of the circuitry, we don't have that, we have made lessons and diagrams that are in the Boater's Program: www.bornagainboating.com/
      But nothing publicly on CZcams, sorry about that.
      I know it can get frustrating with these older wired boats and how they just run tons of different colored wires off the switches and they change the colors and then just run the every which way in the boat, super complicated and has tons of potential failure points.
      We usually just rip all that junk out of the boat and start fresh so that we can run duplex to the components and then just install the junction bars to join the switch panel to the boat wiring, making it way easier to diagnose and maintain and install.
      But there is a lot that you need to learn and understand about the circuity and why certain things are ran and done the way they are done, which is why we have them built out in lessons in the Program so you learn the basics before the switch wiring.
      Wishing you the best of luck though!

      Depends, a lot of time West Marine because we have Port Supply and that gives us the best price, but also sometimes from Land N Sea, depending, prices are always fluctuating

    That boat's wiring is a mess one of the worst I've seen definitely looks like a lot of people through the years was in there messing around. I thought my boat wiring was bad mine wasn't even close to that although it did have its flaws that needed to be corrected I think your boat was an electrical fire waiting to happen. Nice to see somebody who does a good job wiring. So many splices on that one wire lol. I hope a lot of people watch this and learn the correct way to wire. Keep up the good work.

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  Před měsícem +1

      Sure don't, lol I make it all up as I go, I like to assess it once in the beginning and get a picture of what all we want to do, what all the parts are going to be and then kind of lay it out like that :)
      Wish you the best of luck on your project though! A 16 won't be too bad at all, almost identical to what this was :) depending on how far you want to take it.
      We try to keep up with as many comments as possible, but if you would like some cheap assistance in thinking out your project, you could look into our Boater's Program where we have messaging and a place to upload pictures and videos and then we have a weekly livestream where we can talk about whatever you want to discuss! Just something to think about whenever you start your project!

    Biggest thing about rewiring a boat is labeling new wires at both ends of the line lol. Also using industry standard wiring colors for different circuits lol

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  Před měsícem

      Had to, to get them off the floor, allow space for the fuel tank access plate, allow the space for the mechanical steering cable to run through the console, and makes putting the batteries in and taking them out a lot easier :)

    This is a DIY for someone who has skills. I have the same size boat and the wiring is a total disaster. No bilge, float switch, or live well pumps work. All of the instrument cluster is dead as a doornail. Navigation lights are kaput. I am going out with portable nav lights and a bilge pump I can clip to a battery. There is no way in hell I can pull off what you did.
