The boat build is in full swing....and I am still worried about sponsors though. Still chasing sponsors, it is going to be a difficult task this year.
The Odisea 48 from Odisea Catamarans has just started to get built in Vietnam. The design is complete, the paperwork has been done and now the factory has had 4 days to start the job and they are welding like madmen. Finally the wait is over, the Elcano World Challenge will begin in 2024 people.

This is the most detailed extreme catamaran build I have ever seen. Holy crap this Cat is being built like an ice breaker!
Plukky it still boggles the mind where this is all headed. Having started out on a stripped down cat populated with a rotating crew of young women, to a mono in need of a lot of work, to this amazing boat I can't wait to see finished. Top stuff.
Nothing but quality peepole.
I remember when things were pretty grim in the past for you Plukky. You went through some TOUGH times in Panama and the Caribbean. So I'm happy to see you doing well, you seem to be cheered up. And with good reason! Buena suerte y cuídate mucho amigo. Good luck and be careful my friend.
If you keep getting back up, it has to come good eventually
I’m 😊
Pluk, old man. Been following you for some time, yes I hung in there. When you announced a new boat build I pictured a Wharrum 40 something, bare bones and salty old school mixed with bungee cords and flooded cell batteries and a 200 watt solar panel. What I see here is space age technology being applied to craft a vessel bound for sea conditions that are unforgiving and relentless. Top stuff! Good on ya and I’m still with you! 🎉
Glad to have you on board
You see a need for a design change everyone puts there heads together and gets it done. Nothing but quality.
It is so amazing to see this sort of an operation in Viet Nam. I graduated in 1969 and although I didn't go to the war there, many of my classmates did. One a neighbor who was top in his class and went on to be a fighter pilot. He is still over there in some jungle MIA. To think that these guys fathers may have killed me or me them says there is something very wrong with the way this world operates. And it's no better today. Amazing what that country has done with the industrious work force they have. Imagine what would be possible if everyone just got along. Great videos Plukky. Keep up the good work.
so true, war is such a waste
it is awesome how everyone works together as a team and respects each other's ideals. love seeing the build coming together.
Design flexibility + knowledgeable engineers = perfect product!
its a good idea to make provision to have small hoses run to the bottom of the dagger boards, rudders and other hard to get at cavities so you can check for and remove water.
Tinkering with the design while building, I would have expected no less from our Pluckster! And the time lapse on the beams is sweet!
Peter, it’s all looking great I can see you sailing that cat by the end of the year. We’re all waiting to see it.
Amazing to see this build and the quality of it. There is simply no comparison to a fibreglass Cat construction. When I am in a position to order another new boat, this surely has to be the ultimate cat. Blown away by the craftsmanship on the video.
Cap'n Plukky, I watched on Kickstarter and commented. Everything is at it should be! That's not what I said on Kickstarter, just here. Again, THANK YOU, BART!!!, YOUR THE MAN!!❤ You Stay Safe MY Cap'n! ✝️🙏❤️🇺🇸🇦🇺⛵️👣🍍😊
Plukky the boat build is making major progress. Borrow that crane and shake some money out of those super yachts over there. 👍😂
This post has brought a beaming smile to my face. Although still subscribed, I haven’t received a post since 2 years ago. Maybe my bad somehow, but I was missing this vlog.
Now it’s all going to kick-off again with this masterful and beautiful cat.
Good on yer Plucky, looking forward to new adventures.
Greetings from Romania ❤️🇷🇴

Agree! 🏴☠
Some things to consider. Dagger boards nearly sank on a mooring of my friend's Crother 54-foot aluminum cat. The issue was anti-fouling on the daggerboard created electronics inside the daggerboard case over time which holed the inside of the case wall. The repair was too cramped to reweld the cases. They had sealed the cases off and had wooden fixed fins custom-built and fitted under the hull.
Composites are better for daggers - shatter on impact protecting the case and no corrosion issues.
So glad you are doing this build vlog. Nothing but raw quality people. That outfit will definitely get business from show casing their expertise, win win.
Got the problem sorted as to why I could not post here. Cheers. Proud on you and the team.
Making great progress. The managers and skilled workers know how to accomplish the build to perfection. Every piece cut, formed, ground, and welded to exact specifications. Kudos 🙌
You are doing it right. When you put together that many people good things will come.
Lucky for Odisea that they have a "cat" expert and experienced sailor as an advisor!
Hardly, i just know a bit but thanks for the compliment anyway
To everyone who at first was hesitant to support this build, well your time is now, this is happening and better late than never.
Getting there Plukky! So many man hours going into the build. I am looking forward to see the dagger boards in action.
Plukky, make the dagger boards air tight so you have a virticle tube inside, to the bottom to blow out any water with air
good idea. In that same vain, shoot some expanding foam down inside the dagger boards to displace any water.
Look forward to seeing the Teflon sliders you come up with.
I like the group discussion for the design change, no ideas are a bad idea just some work better than others 👍👍👍
Indeed
Great to see a collaborative approach to come up with better ideas.
So smooth people like a young Italian girls derrière!
She is going to be a beast🎉
Was never a big fan of cats, but this aluminium cat is floating my boat.
An extraordinary combination of knowledge, experience and joy of creating a perfect structure. Beautiful work!
She going to be a nice and fast ship.
There's definitely one thing these wonderful people have and that's an extremely solid Work Ethic. Well done!!!🇦🇺👍😎 it's great to see u smiling Plukky.
Nothing but quality ❤
Indeed
I like coming straight into the weld. Good video!
Well done, it's damn close to saying it could be built here in the city - like Mercedes and Porsche do here
The standard metric for measurement used to be football fields, railway cars or Jumbo jets. Good to see Plucky has set the new bar with F150's.🤣
Love it, love it, Love it!!!!
Great HOW TO BUILD an Ali Boat Video. Think I will leave it to the experts! Keep up the good work.
Thats some precision work.
Great stuff, it’s going well. Missed the girls this week.
the boat build people are making a beautiful boat!
Crazy, fast, precision people!
amazing the skilled vietnamese workers, here in cambodia you could not do the same
This looks like assembling an Airplane 😮
WOW! This is looking after the details.
She's looking good Plukky. Still no equipment in sight.
We have s couples to be announced soon.... but we need a motor
I never fully appreciated how complex building with aluminium is
A Truly Custom Build... 👍👍😜🤣😁😎
I've thought this since the beginning of the build, but just now saying it to you - a 200 count foam ear plug box is roughly $20 US. Would be good for yourself and the entire factory crew.
Your ME good nature is showing through Plukky. Good stuff as always.
They keep the work areas/floor nice and clean
Fill the dagger boards with foam to stop any water filling it up if a problem eventuates
That was a noisy one today but it's really coming along 🤗💞
Fantastic build happening Plukky. All the best to come my man!
Great video the boats looking awesome
Sporting wood !
You crack me up man
🤣🤣🤣💪🏼
Looking good my friend. Wish you the best for your future sailing adventures. Burlington Bill, busking on the road and on You Tube.
Amazing!! Just remember friend when you sail that beauty towards eastern Canada by the shores of New Brunswick and PEI hit me up we will make your time here a great one 😀
coming along great Peter
You can always work for them Plukky when you are boring!
I love you man and you wish I could support you!!!!!!!!!
Nice work on the design for sliders Plukky - much better to have backing blocks to tap into.
Indeed
Eh mate remember when you were talking about building your ali cat in Greece and the Philipines yourself? Remember that dream, bet your glad that never happened after watching these dudes
Really great to see you have a bunch of switch on people / thinkers on board. Has the AL supply issue now been more or solved? Top stuff Peter
Sweet as.............
Good to see yoiu
I see progress is moving along quite well. Interesting Video. Thanks for sharing!
jeez plucky are you trying to make us deaf !!! top stuff😉
Fun fun 👍🏻
Are you getting excited yet? Can't wait to see the inside fit out.
Such patience, skill and man hours. To think that at one time you contemplated doing it yourself in a poly tunnel somewhere ?
WOW! These guys should build Boeing 737 Max airplanes, at least they would not fell apart in mid air! TOTALLY safer for the passengers and for peoples on the ground!!! Just ironic.
Nice work mate
Plukkman, I thought here we go with the ford f150's. I'm going to look this up, the weight of them that is. I thought you were going to be way out . But, you're right , 1331 f150's with fuel , is pretty fricking close to 4k tonne. Who would have thought ?
You did a few sums first mate before you came up with that analogy. Well done mate 😂
Its only maths my friend , not the enemy
haha you are like me, i go over a bridge and tell the missus all about the single span engineering that goes into a bridge like this and if we go past a big crane or other engineering marvel then she really gets the lowdown.. she loves it (probably not)
Note their tenacious work ethic. And that dear friends is how they defeated the American invaders ✌️
If the daggerboards fill with water the other issue is corrosion where you can not see it . Best to be really watertight .
Bloody brilliant !
Can’t wait to see it on the water
It sure helps a lot that they are will to listen and change thing from from you the person that sails or operates the vessel ! Constructive criticism or for better words this is what doesn't work but this will weld a boss in them and pressure test them !
👍🏻👍🏻
Hey Plucky, I remembered you talking about a “Mumby” (is that right?) anyway, I’ve finally seen one on “Wildings Sailing” on utube. A friend of his shows up where he’s working on his Wharram and they did a short Boat Tour . I can now see why you’re so taken with them, it’s over 40 ft & it’s Awesome!
Coming along Plucky!
Indeed it is Mark. How is the boat and travels going my friend
@@SAILINGintoFREEDOM Casting off the lines in 4 days! Our adventure has begun!
Going well Plukky, English wheel and alloy welding remind me of hours of fun learning the skills from my uncle over 45 years ago. He even taught me how to weld aluminium beercans end to end with oxy acetylene! And my peers said it couldn't be done, so I showed them how! Nothing is impossible Peter, keep it happening mate!
It's coming along nicely Peter.
Great to see the build moving along. You need to wear ear protection in there.. you don't wanna get Tinnitus!
The team is doing a great job!
I think I understand the ovals cut into the second side to the daggerboard as giving access for the welding from the outside, but I would like to see a discussion of how the second side is welded on and faired.
Hey Plucky your gonna be killing it when you get back to sailing this Goliath around whoop woop 🎉🎉🎉yes sir everybody's gonna be trying to get aboard as a crew wont be hard to find that'll ne for sure CANT WAIT To See🤙🤙🤙⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⚓⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵⛵🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Great build can't wait to see you sail. Jeff the Navy vet ps. All hands on deck comment
Top Stuff, how far you have come.
Wonderful work
Looking great plucky .
Nothing but quality mate!!
Color me jealous
Space X and their Starship Rocket, more than twice as powerful as the Saturn 5 rocket. 33 Rapter Engines on the booster alone, each of which is capable of 230 Tonnes of thrust. That would be 7590 Tonnes total thrust, I laugh at your 4000 Tonnes 🙂 Potentially the whole arrangement could put 150 tonne into orbit. The whole lot is quite liable to end up in the Ocean as well - go figure 🙂 Dagger board full of water heavy, well neutral in the water, full of air it will be buoyant as hell 🙂
YO THEY ARE MOVING WITH THE WORK
